You don't know how lucky you are your doctor took you off of methadone it's a terrible drug, I'm with Pauly611, I didn't know about the nazi thing but that makes me hate the methadone even more...I also know several people that have died taking methadone. The opana er is a great pain medication. It's very smooth and it won't make you feel like a zombie, that's what it made me feel like.

I agree with Geminigirl and Tuckamore's comments that medications affect everyone differently and what may work for someone may not work well for you. But given my recent medication change to Opana ER, I have found information all across the internet from other chronic pain patients that are being switched from Oxycontin to Opana ER due to their doctor's unwillingness to continue to prescribe the medication due to bad press and associated fear from DEA prosecution.

Hi, Iknow it has been a few years since your post, i was wondering how you are doing on the Opana ER. I am switching from Opana 30 mg ER to Morphine 60 mg ER.The Opana gave me side effects, dizziness, being in withdrawl if I missed a dose, and it did not help my chronic pain.. I have tried many ER drugs and I am having a hard time finding many of them. Plus my breakthrough meds are also hard to find.

My body is wired to where I get wired when I take it. My question is would switching to opana er still relive the pain and not give me the wired out and euphoric side effects that I'm starting to enjoy so much? I've heard opana er and ir have the opposite effects.

t know how many 5/325 mg Percocets you were taking a day before switching to the Opana ER 5 mg, but to have equivalent pain relief from the Opana ER, you had to have taken only 2 Percocets a day. If you were taking more than 2 Percocets a day then the switch to Opana ER 5 mg was a step down in terms of pain relieving strength.

He switched me off the Opana ER to OxyContin. Since then my blood pressure has come down a bit and my pain is better, except for the past two days when it's been unbearable. I've been taking Nortriptyline for about a month and I do think that has helped my nerve pain. I am lucking with my primary care doctor. She is excellent.

Anyone taken Opana ER? My doctor wants to switch me from Oxy to Opana ER and I am very nervous about it. Any advice is helpful.

I would give the medication 5-7 days for your body to adjust and go from there; Opana is an extended release medication so it needs time. One cannot predict how your body might respond to this medication; trial and error. If after 5-7 days the drowsiness and headaches are worse let Pain Management know. Keep in mind, everybody's system is different. What one person might experience taking a medication does NOT mean you will too.

when i could not find oxycontin i would take opana er 40mg. opana(oxymorphone) is about twice as potent as oxycodone. they are rather new i believe they came out in 2002?

I wanted to post an update regarding my new pain medication for chronic pain called Opana ER. As many of you know from my previous post, I delayed taking it because I along with a couple of pharmacists were convinced that the dose was too high. However, after thinking about many of your online comments and the amount of breakthrough pain medicine I take daily along with discussion of my concerns with my doctor, we decided that 30 mg of Opana ER during the day was accurate.

my dr just put me on opana ER 10mg 2x day and 2 lortab day for breakthru...before that was prescribed and taking 4 norco 10/325 daily and was not controlling the pain...i've been in this constant flar-up phase few weeks... i've only been on opana er for 2 days so i know it takes around 5 days to kick in and dr says this mg is a starting point for me and will move up some accordingly...i'm glad and surprised that my pain has subsided some...

If the new oxycontin OP worked very well on your pain, I highly recommend talking to your doctor about Opana ER. It is oxymorphone and it is strongest pain medication available in pill form based on pharmacology. The oxycodone in Oxycontin is metabolized by the liver into oxymorphone. Therefore, the Opana ER would be a drug that is very comparable to the Oxycontin, only twice as strong.

I am now on 20mg twice a day and I still have to take Percocet for breakthrough pain. I am not really sure of the benefit of the Opana at this dose at my current pain level but I am going along with my nurse practitioners idea. I have not had headaches with it but it sure gives me a lot of heartburn. I hope that your doctor can find a combination that works for you. I am blessed to have a doctor and NP that are willing to change things if they are not working. best of luck.

30 mg twice a day and has been a wonder drug for my chronic pain. After being prescribed Opana ER 2 months ago, I researched it more and Hootie is right. The bioavailability of oxymorphone is lower than that of Morphine...10% is correct. I still am prescribed Percocet for breakthrough pain and most days I only need one dose instead of two but there are days that two doses are definitely needed. Oxycodone is one of the active ingredients in Percocet alongside acetaminophen.

Has anyone had issues with withdrawal symptoms coming on suddenly? I know the Opana ER doesn't last 12 hours (even my doc warned me this was the case) but this latest batch of opana seems to poop out & give me old sweats about 4 hours after taking it. I've been on Opana ER, 20 mg 2x/day for a couple of months. It's my 2nd experience with long-acting opioids (1st was Oxycontin MS, quit after 10 days due to gluten issues).

I am a 49yr old female with several health issues. I've been on Opana 20mgs er and 10 mg Opana 4times a day for months, before was on 100 mgs of Morphine and the Opana 10mgs 4times per day.

I take Opana er for pain due to my multiple sclerosis and it works very well,with few of the side effects i had before from other pain meds with alot of aspirin or tylenol. i hope this helps.

Have you tried Opana ER and Opana for break through pain. I know you've tried dilaudid but have you tried Opana? I'm currently taking it and it seems to be doing a better job than what the vicodin does. I have no high's and low's in my body and just feel like the medicine in me all day long, so maybe you can try Opana?

I am currently taking Opana ER 30mg /2 TID for long term spinal pain due to breaks and fusions. I am going to try replacing that for a short time with a Fentanyl Patch to see if I have any improvement in Pain Mgmt. I am just wondering what regimen I should use to safely do this. For example. Hi! I really need help. I am on 30 mg Opana ER 3 times a day. I have had major surgery, but think I am hyper analgesic, and being this dependent on pills is scaring me (after 1 1/2 years)! I have been told I need to change to another short-acting medication prior to detoxing. One doctor told me he would change me to the Fentanyl Patch, then I could go through his detox program.
