Opana er opioid

Common Questions and Answers about Opana er opioid

opana

Avatar n tn You are actually getting 5 mg less of oxycodone through the switch from percocet to Opana ER. However, since Opana ER is an entirely different opioid formulation. There is probably some cross tolerance and your doctor applied a 20% cross tolerance factor when converting you from oxycodone to Opana ER. This is to protect you from severe side effects and a potential overdose of the Opana.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking Opana ER 30mg /2 TID for long term spinal pain due to breaks and fusions. I am going to try replacing that for a short time with a Fentanyl Patch to see if I have any improvement in Pain Mgmt. I am just wondering what regimen I should use to safely do this. For example. Is it as easy as waiting 12 hrs. after my last Opana ER and then apply the patch (it's a 3 day patch) then take another ER once the 3 days has expired?
Avatar n tn t know how many 5/325 mg Percocets you were taking a day before switching to the Opana ER 5 mg, but to have equivalent pain relief from the Opana ER, you had to have taken only 2 Percocets a day. If you were taking more than 2 Percocets a day then the switch to Opana ER 5 mg was a step down in terms of pain relieving strength.
Avatar f tn Before we really got to discuss it my insurance company said I had to switch from nucynta 50mg to opana er 15mg. I was just wondering if I can kill two birds with one stone. Should I be able to reduce fentanyl dose from 25 mcg to 12 mcg since Opana Er 15 mg has entered the mix?
Avatar m tn Doc prescribes Opana because it is slower release and recommends switching out one of the vico doses for a 10mg Opana for a week, then dropping the vico and moving to the Opana. Still an opioid, but low dose to buy time until the MRI can be done to determine if nerve abulation (deadening the nerves at the base of the spine) is the next course of action, or if total fusion is necessary. Have to admit that so far none of these are appealing to me.
Avatar m tn You are taking Opana ER every 4-6 hours? Opana ER is meant to be taken every 12 hours, not every 4-6 hours. In fact, most insurance companies will not pay for extended release medications to be taken more than 2 times per day. I am very surprised that both your doctor and insurance are permitting the dosing schedule you stated. https://www.belbuca.
Avatar n tn I agree with Tuck. We are all different. I was recently switched to Opana ER 30 mg two times a day. Before the switch I was taking Morphine ER 30 mg two times a day PLUS 7 percocet EVERY DAY and STILL battled pain. I now only need 2-3 percocet a day and live virtually pain free. I have done some research on Opana, and it is special in that it binds to not only the mu opioid receptors but also the delta and kappa opioid receptors.
Avatar f tn So you are using Opana ER 10mg twice a day? Because of your many years of pain and opioid medication, you are highly tolerant to opioids analgesics. This means that you need more opioid to achieve the same amount of pain relief. My question is: why does your doctor want to change the Duragesic to Opana ER? Also, how long after changing from Duragesic to Opana ER did you begin to feel more pain?
1444483 tn?1468516489 s for the last year. My new pain management doctor suggested Opana ER. He told me that in the 7 years of him prescribing the medication he has not had a single patient become addicted to the medicine like patients do on Norco's and other pain meds. The norcos have started to just not work since my tolerance has built up to them. I am taking one Opana in the morning and one at night, with my norcos as a back up pain reliever.
Avatar f tn Did they check off oxymorphone (opana) or morphine on the lab slip? Oxymorphone (Opana) is a semi-synthetic opioid, unlike morphine which is an opiate. If there was an error is the test request, that could explain the false negative. Btw, Opana is available in generic form- oxymorphone hcl ER by globabal pharmaceuticals. I know because I take it currently.
Avatar f tn I was hoping that all you kind peps would give me your input about Opana ER. I am on fentanyl 175/48 hrs. right now. not what I want it to be. I really need to find a solution. Thanks.
Avatar m tn Hi I take 1 20mg opana er per day I'm prescribed 3 a day but never take 3, maybe 2 if I'm having a really bad pain day but that is usually 1 or 2 days per month. I would like to come totally off it to see if I can manage my pain in more natural ways. Being that I that so little will WD be bad, should I just go cold turkey or wean by putting more space between doses?
Avatar m tn I am on 30 mg of morphine sulfate ER twice a day with up to 35 mg of percocet a day for breakthrough pain (about to switch to Opana ER tomorrow...maybe). I have taken the max of 35 mg of percocet in one day before along with 60 mg of morphine sulfate ER. BUT, you must make sure your doctor as ordered this as Jaybay said because the doctor makes sure you are opioid tolerant enough such that you won't experience severe respiratory depression when you combine the percocet with the morphine.
541953 tn?1262586226 Hi, Iknow it has been a few years since your post, i was wondering how you are doing on the Opana ER. I am switching from Opana 30 mg ER to Morphine 60 mg ER.The Opana gave me side effects, dizziness, being in withdrawl if I missed a dose, and it did not help my chronic pain.. I have tried many ER drugs and I am having a hard time finding many of them. Plus my breakthrough meds are also hard to find.
Avatar f tn My body is wired to where I get wired when I take it. My question is would switching to opana er still relive the pain and not give me the wired out and euphoric side effects that I'm starting to enjoy so much? I've heard opana er and ir have the opposite effects.
Avatar m tn I agree with Geminigirl and Tuckamore's comments that medications affect everyone differently and what may work for someone may not work well for you. But given my recent medication change to Opana ER, I have found information all across the internet from other chronic pain patients that are being switched from Oxycontin to Opana ER due to their doctor's unwillingness to continue to prescribe the medication due to bad press and associated fear from DEA prosecution.
29837 tn?1414534648 Long acting opioids include MS Contin, Kadian, Avinza (these are morphine based), Butrans patch (patch is worn for 7 days), Fentanyl patch (patch is worn for 48-72 hours - this is the long acting medication that I use and I find it extremely effective), Opana ER (oxymorphone), Exalgo (hydromorphone). I have also tried MS Contin and Opana ER. Fentanyl Transdermal has been the most effective and consistent pain medication for me compared to the others I have tried.
1331804 tn?1336867358 Now, converting that to Opana ER. Opana ER is 3x stronger than morphine; hence, 120 mg of morphine = 120/3 mg of Opana ER per day (i.e., 40 mg). Therefore I should be taking 20 mg of Opana ER every 12 hours NOT 30 mg of Opan ER every 12 hours. The 40 mg Opana ER includes all of the breakthrough percocet I take per day and the total in morphine sulfate ER I take per day. With this lower dose, I still should not need breakthrough meds.
1855076 tn?1337115303 I found a new primary care physician today and he switched me from Morphine Sulfate ER to Opana ER at a MUCH stronger dose...if you see my other post, I am a little afraid to take it tomorrow morning because the dose is much higher than my current total dose of morphine sulfate ER plus percocet. Have you tried Opana or Opana ER? It is oxymorphone. I plan to take my first dose tomorrow morning and I'll let you know how well it works for me.
Avatar m tn when i could not find oxycontin i would take opana er 40mg. opana(oxymorphone) is about twice as potent as oxycodone. they are rather new i believe they came out in 2002?
Avatar n tn Ive been taking oxycontin 80, (6 day) & dilaudid 8 (8 day) for 15 years due to many health issues ... I was just put on opana 40 ER (4 day)& Opana 10 (4 day). Since i've been on the new meds i think i have been blacking out; l be doing something and i open my eyes and i dont know where i am, or what just happened, Are these seizures??? Or Withdrawals ??? Both?? Does Anyone Have Any Input?
1445110 tn?1388209711 Opana ER has been a LIVESAVING drug for me, non sedating, i can hold my huge babies and have no side effects, I highly recommended the ER, you take it only 2 x a day, I ran out one day before my pain doctor appt and am in excruciating pain in back and hips. Had no idea how well it was working until I am having to go 2 days without and about to DIE.
Avatar f tn It is a step down but you could combine a 5 mg and a 10 mg tablet to equal 30 mg of oxycodone. Because of incomplete cross tolerance due to Opana IR (oxymorphone) being a totally different opioid, you could have great success with it as a breakthrough pain med. Dilaudid and Opana IR are the only IR pills stronger than oxycodone on the market. The next tier up would be the fentanyl lollipops or buccal tablets. Good luck. Let us know how things go.
1087566 tn?1282448730 i also take Oxycodone 30mg. 4/daily. I am wanting to change up my meds due to high tolerance...any thoughts on Opana ER? This discussion is related to left butt check pain that continues down my left leg.
Avatar n tn Not sure if you have tried Opana (oxymorphone) yet but based on pharmacology, it is a little stronger than Dilaudid (hydromorphone) mg to mg. I am on 30 mg of Opana ER twice a day. They do have Opana in immediate release form. Opana has a long half life, even in immediate release form, such that 6 hour dosing works extremely well for most patients versus the 4 hour dosing of oxycodone. Oxymorphone is the metabolite of oxycodone...
