Ondansetron is used for treating vomiting. Constipation, dizziness and headache are the most commonly reported side effects associated with its use. Some symptoms of viral infection of the abdomen like in viral gastroenteritis may prolong for some time(10-12) days after treatment of infection also.This is due to effect of virus on the stomach causing its irritation.
Since it happened after a viral infection,so causes could be dehydration and decreased amount of minerals like sodium and potassium in the body.It can also occur because of hypoglycemia or improper sleep during the infection.
Ondansetron is Zofran hun. Its just the generic name for zofran. Even though theres a lawsuit, id say its more of a money maker. I took it both pregnancies and my babies came out fine. Youve got to look at whether the benefits outweigh the risk with ANY medication. If youre miserable and need to eat for baby, take it. My advice is try to only take it when u really need it, not on a regular basis. Stop as soon as symptoms ease up. Lots of water too.
Ondansetron is the generic for Zofran. Why would you refuse it? It's safe to take or your Dr wouldn't prescribe it to you. There's other meds out there if you don't want to take it. My Dr gave me Diclegis. It helped take the edge off the nausea.
When the night came i started having dull painful sharp pains in my upper middle stomach that will last for couple seconds n it would go away so ill just sleep on it, the pain came to sharp i couldn't go back to sleep, so i went to e.r n they did blood work n a ultrasound which came back normal. I was think gallbladder stones idk.. So doctor diagnose me with gastroenteritis prescribe me pain killers. N next morning with the dull pain that comes n goes. Ouch! Is it normal????
I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV.
She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.

My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? its really started to drive me mental. i am having to go to the doctor every four days just so i am able to function for work. any suggestions on how to get around this problem??
On day 7 of a severe case of gastroenteritis. Everything seems to have calmed down, but once I try and eat anything stomach cramps start, which are unbearable. Sometimes followed by diarrhoea. Is this normal after a severe case of gastroenteritis or do I need to see my G.P again?
Sure thing! Also try sea bands, ginger snaps, and I'm not supposed to have salt, but found a lime salt that saves my car rides! My doctor even prescribed Ondansetron (Zofran) for me. I've even tried essential oils, but most have such an overwhelming scent it triggers even more sickness!
Does any of the medicine the docs give for morning sickness actually work? Everything else Ive tried isnt helping and its so terrible! I barely get through work and if it gets any worse Im not going to be able to work I really dont want that!
I was put on 50 mg of zoloft a month ago and have had nausea ever since. It seems like it's been getting worse over the last couple of weeks. Yesterday I was prescribed Ondansetron ODT 4mg. It doesn't seem to help. Will the nausea go away?
And yes Nexium as Pepela suggested is also in the PPI class
Antimicrobial therapy is indicated for some bacterial gastroenteritis infections. However, many are self-limited and do not require therapy.The specific antibiotics are taken for specific bacteria after stool culture.Then a gastroenterologist or a physician has to be consulted.

Hi. I have had sharp pains in my left side for a week. The pain is specifically on my left side, below the ribs, between the last rib and the hip bone. Right there in the fleshy area of the lower abdomen and going downwards towards the hip. But its specifically on my side, not my back or tummy. Its been a week since symptoms started. Symptoms include a constant achy feeling in the area, sharp pains in the area when i lay down or move positions or laugh or cough. I went to the doc after 5 days.
