Hi i am on 40mg of Omeprazole for acid reflux. Has anyone here had side effects from it like loose stools? For the past two weeks or so my bowel movements have been rather odd...loose in the morning but ok towards the end of the day...no blood, but causing soreness around my anus afterwards....

Does anyone know if permanent loose stools a common side effect of the regular intake of Omeprazole? I have no other side effects whatsoever.

I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.

Here it is January 2014 and I am pretty sure I have one of the possible side affects of taking omeprazole, severe itchy skin. Twice in the last month I stopped taking it for a few days and believe I even had a withdrawal side affect. This was when I was just falling to sleep it felt like I could not breath. The first time I went to the ER and had various test performed which all came back negative. The second time occurred about 4 days ago when I stopped taking omeprazole again.

You could try to avoid the foods that trigger the abdominal pain and gas, during my last pregnancy grapes gave me excruciating pain! Drink plenty of water and maybe try eating prunes/prune juice. When was your last bowel movement? You could be impacted with stool if your pain is that severe.

Iv always suffered with constipation and it gets so much worse during pregnancy it's unreal, haven't had BM in 2 weeks now (sometimes it's longer). My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I would say that of the few side effects I get from my meds, the constipation would be the worst one. Then again I could probably do more to correct this, but I really hate high fiber foods. I may try that metamucil that xanweaner mentioned.

After taking the meds for over 5 days I am experiencing sleeplessness, headache and constipation. Could someone let me know if these are the side effects of the meds? should i continue or should I stop taking them? thank you.

I started taking omeprazole for acid reflux but stopped it after reading about the side effects,anemia as it takes out vitamin b12,broken bones as it takes out calcium and a risk of severe cold infections as it takes out vitamin c.A local doctor links acid reflux with anemia,so I started taking multi vits with iron and the acid reflux disappeared.

t answer other that to say do a search here and/or on the web for side effects of omepraole. If that is a possible side effect discuss with your prescribing doctor you may be able to get help from some other medication.

Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.

By terrible do you mean side effects or no relief? This med can start helping with in a couple of days depending on what you're being treated for.If you have an ulcer it can weeks to clear up and you may need to be on a double dose of this med.

First - omeprazole CAN cause abdominal pain as a side effect. You may want to switch to something else, such as Prevacid (you can get over-the-counter), just to make sure. And take a dose twice daily. Second - deal aggressively with the constipation so that it is not part of the equation - that just confuses everything. Miralax (or the store brand) is very good - use a dose every day or even twice a day until the bowels are working well, then cut back.
