Common Questions and Answers about Omeprazole dose

nexium

Avatar m tn I have been desperately trying to quit Omeprazole for the last 5 years but have had so much problem with extreme acid release it seems I'll be with it for my life. Of course noone knows yet the result of taking omeprazole for a lifetime, mice had cancer after weeks but human might as well after decades. I can't replace omeprazole with ranitidine, as the latter doesn't seem to work at all. I've been able to lower the dose to about one 20mg in two days but not more.
Avatar n tn I am unconcerned about a modest increase in effective dose, but I imagine high-dose statin users with CKD, etc. should take the interaction seriously. Again, thanks!
Avatar f tn This is day 4, and I am on 10 mg.of omeprazole. The first two days were terrible, the third fine now the fourth is terrible.
Avatar n tn What I find so strange is this caffeine problem just started with the dose increase. It was a minor dose increase. Really freaked me out.
Avatar m tn I have been on 20mg Losec (omeprazole) for many years and recently had a stomach scope that showed I had more than 50 (they stop counting after 50) Fundic gland polyps. Research tells me these polyps are the result of extended use of Losec. A biopsy was done of one and showed it was not cancerous and the doctor told me it is not a great cause for concern but that I should have regular scopes. Nevertheless I do worry. Is there an alternative to Losec that will not cause this problem?
Avatar m tn I am on Levothyroxine for hypo-thyroidism, Paxil for panic attacks, Cozaar for high blood pressure, Omeprazole for gastric problems, Methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis, and a Remicade infusion (chemo) therapy every six weeks also for the RA. Right now, all I want to do is get off the HydroCodone. I will just have to deal with the pain because I hate taking all these medications which are a necessary evil. Is there anyone out there with answers.
974371 tn?1424653129 Really makes dry mouth wires and some constipation. Omeprazole 2 or 3 months but have cut the dose, he said that was ok. I had problems on Nexium. Zofran prescribed when Levsin was to take as needed. Again woke up T about 5:00 am sweating and stomach getting upset and bloating and nausea. Took Xanax, Levsin and Gas X, no better. Something isn't right. I am sick! Wonder if I should get a second opinion. This is about daily now.
Avatar f tn I had belching all the time on omeprazole. It never treated that symptom. I have quit omeprazole and am now retesting for h pylori and am awaiting gallbladder tests as well. A dr should always investigate reflux that does not respond entirely to omeprazole. I did a soft, slow cooked soup diet for three to four days then I moved into a regular gerd friendly diet where I eat something just about every one to two hours until dinner and after dinner no food or snacks unless it is an apple snack.
Avatar m tn The last time I had this problem I got some Omeprazole off my doctor. I finished those and the pains came back last week so I got some more on Tuesday. Problem is that not it's a lot worse. I haven't ate or slept in 4 nights and I'm now starting to get constipated. Some thing I've never been before! I haven't been to school or the gum since last week because the pain is too debilitating!
Avatar n tn Is it possible to have a reverse reaction to Nexium / omeprazole? It never really made the symptoms of my recently diagnosed hiatal hernia caused reflux (lump in throat, mostly) go away. It seemed to help for 2 weeks, but after 1 month it seemed to aggravate GERD symptoms. I am reading a lot on the subject, experimenting with diet and relaxation and the occasional spoonful of Maalox. I relate to the person who said they felt fine until after the endoscopy.
709686 tn?1277432159 I understand that we all can experience different side effects to certain meds but was hoping someone could tell me what, if any, side effects they experienced while taking Prilosec or Zegerid. Both meds are basically Omeprazole. I also noticed that, in my opinion, my doctor had me on WAY TOO MUCH. I was prescribed 40mg twice a day..EVERY DAY! I've seen that the most common script is written for 20mg a day for two weeks.
Avatar m tn The recommended treatment is 90 days use of an antiacid of the PPI class, ( Proton Pump Inhibitors ), like Omeprazole, ( Prilosec ), or Pantoprazole, ( Protonix ) for example, at low dose but TWICE a day BEFORE meals. Zantac, ( Ranitidine ) or otherantiacids of its class, ( H2 Blocker ), wont work well in the case of LPR. It is of extreme importance to visit an ENT speciallist to evaluate your throat, specially your vocal cords.
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar m tn At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar n tn is omeprazole a nercotic pain killer? i know some medications that may b addicting so i thought i would double check..also i had seen that u can take in an i.v is this true and if so how?
Avatar n tn I keep forgetting to take my omeprazole dr 20 mg 30 minutes before meals, can I take it after the meal.
Avatar n tn Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
974371 tn?1424653129 Been feeling like that the past e3 or 4 days again and been mainly been using Pepto or Tums. Last time this happened, my doc gave me a prescription for Omeprazole DR. 20 mg. Of course, the day after my appt, the nausea went away so I never tried it. Well, the nausea is back again and I am a bit concerned about taking this med. I am not good at taking prescription meds as I've had problems in the past.
Avatar f tn So after many many years of thinking I was just a hypochondriac I have a diagnosis that really fits my basically lifelong symptoms. I currently take 100mcg of Synthroid and Omeprazole 20 daily. My regular GP wanted me to take HBP meds and anti anxiety drugs. I asked to please allow me to complete further blood tests as my BP has always been very low. So it is very possible my issues were from the fall in thyroid TSH and also the extremely low Vitamin D.
Avatar f tn I think you can increase the dose to 20mg/day for omeprazole for better effect. You should take smaller meals. Avoid food at least 2 hours before bedtime. Avoid too much of caffeine. Costochondritis, you should attempt to treat by local analgesics and hot fomentation. Your doctor can advice some pain killers that will not increase the acidity. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn Is Losec a drug I could take on an as-needed basis? I did notice the effects within just a few hours of taking my first dose and am wondering if I could take it just when needed? Thanks.
