Avatar f tn The gurgling is so intense it wakes me up from sleep. I did some research online and read that Omeprazole can cause Hepatitis and liver issues. This concerns me greatly because I already have Hepatitis C and a swollen liver. Should I stop taking Omeprazole? Please help. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Hi rubatta As far as your question is Omeprazole appropriate for a patient with cirrhosis, that would best be asked of a health care professional like your doctor. We are not doctors here. We are either patients with hepatitis c and /or cirrhosis or our loved ones who act as our caregivers. You should discuss all your medications including non prescription with your doctor. If you have cirrhosis it is best that your doctor is a hepatologist associated with a liver transplant center.
Avatar n tn I have diagnosed GERD, hiatal hernia, gastritis and reflux that aspirates into my lungs. I take either Zantac or Omeprazole, depending on how I feel. My liver doctor says that many hepatic patients take them and with my diagnosis I need to stay on medication. I worry because I do not want extra stress on my liver, but also know that I have another health issue that needs medication. Believe me, I have tried every and all non reflux medication options and they do not work for me.
Avatar m tn You need to treat your Hepatitis C ASAP and get cured. There is now a cure for Hepatitis C, Genotype 3. It is not 100%, but the cure rate is very high. So you need to treat ASAP and then you will most likely feel considerably improved. (My night sweats and fatigue disappeared after I was cured of Hep C.) Fatigue is a major symptom of Hepatitis C. Night sweats are also a very common symptom with Hepatitis C. It is the Hep C that is most likely making you fatigued and causing your night sweats.
Avatar m tn s patients usually have low or no acid which makes me concerned about taking this. And I read about ensuring you space out when you take omeprazole. I also have low ferritin and was taking iron, which I saw online is contradicted. Does anyone have experience with taking this?
Avatar m tn I drank a few beers 3 days before the test and take Tylenol here and there. I spoke with my doctor and said stop alcohol and tylenol tested week later and alt went up to 97. Tested another week later and alt jumped to 170. I am about 40 lbs over weight, I also take omeprazole 2xa day. I quit the omeprazole a week ago and am going to retest tom. Can the omeprazole have caused this?
Avatar m tn At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
581954 tn?1223391496 Is it possible for this to be a side effect from Omeprazole? And how long does it take to get out of your system? I have heard it could take 3 months and I have heard it won't take longer than a week??
Avatar n tn Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
Avatar n tn t correct the underlying problem, but it can alleviate a good deal of the pain associated with ulcers by reducing the amount of stomach acid (the actual substance causing the pain). Omeprazole and other PPIs can and do give ulcer patients a better quality of life while they heal.
Avatar n tn I get up and have 2 or 3 cups of tea with sugar, should wait a 1/2 after taking the medicine before drinking the tea?
Avatar n tn is omeprazole a nercotic pain killer? i know some medications that may b addicting so i thought i would double check..also i had seen that u can take in an i.v is this true and if so how?
Avatar n tn I was taking Omeprazole for acid reflux. I was recently going on eight weeks of taking it. I too WAS suffering from dry mouth and tongue and a severe burning sensation in my throat that was getting worse. I feared the worst, waking up with severe dry mouth, panic attacks as to what was happening. I couldnt even make a drop of saliva. I stopped taking the omeprazole last night. For the first time in weeks i slept like a baby.
Avatar n tn Thanks v. much - I was a little concerned as i'd read the antibiotic had a long list of side effects and would normally only be used as a last resort after other meds fail? And wasn't sure about the omeprazole for peptic ulcers either but all makes a little more sense now. Keeping the pills down might be a problem but will give it a go and see if it makes a difference.
Avatar f tn Hey. I was wondering if it’s fine for me to take 40mg of Omeprazole and 1 capsule of IBgard in the same day. I have GERD.
Avatar m tn My 4 year old son has been prescribed 20mg omeprazole for unknown stomach pain. I heard that PPIs such as this can increase the risk of pneumonia and he has a horrible chest cold. cough right now, should I discontinue taking this medication until this passes? Are the chances of it turning into pneumonia greater if he is on omeprazole? Or is this risk factor only for prolong use?

Avatar n tn Take omeprazole (empty stomach in morning) and antacid gel and see if it helps. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea and vomiting. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc.
Avatar m tn Hi, burning pain is usually due to peptic ulcer disease and it can be referred to the back. They commonly occur in the stomach and duodenum. Stomach ulcers cause pain on eating and duodenal ulcers cause pain on fasting (2-3 hrs after eating). Peptic ulcers are eroded areas in the lining of the digestive tract usually in the stomach and duodenum. The two common causes for this are: infection with helicobacter pylori and use of nonsteroidal anti inflammatory medications (NSAID).
Avatar m tn Commonest cause of chronic nausea/vomiting is acidity. Take omeprazole (empty stomach in morning) and antacid gel and see if it helps. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Avatar f tn In the mean time you could try some hot water, and/or baking soda to see if it is indigestion. When I was pregnant and could not take much I tried the hot water and baking soda and it did help. If you burp you pretty much know it is gas. If it is really bad perhaps you should call 911.
