Avatar n tn I was taking Omeprazole for acid reflux. I was recently going on eight weeks of taking it. I too WAS suffering from dry mouth and tongue and a severe burning sensation in my throat that was getting worse. I feared the worst, waking up with severe dry mouth, panic attacks as to what was happening. I couldnt even make a drop of saliva. I stopped taking the omeprazole last night. For the first time in weeks i slept like a baby.
Avatar m tn I have been on 20mg Losec (omeprazole) for many years and recently had a stomach scope that showed I had more than 50 (they stop counting after 50) Fundic gland polyps. Research tells me these polyps are the result of extended use of Losec. A biopsy was done of one and showed it was not cancerous and the doctor told me it is not a great cause for concern but that I should have regular scopes. Nevertheless I do worry. Is there an alternative to Losec that will not cause this problem?
Avatar m tn Of course noone knows yet the result of taking omeprazole for a lifetime, mice had cancer after weeks but human might as well after decades. I can't replace omeprazole with ranitidine, as the latter doesn't seem to work at all. I've been able to lower the dose to about one 20mg in two days but not more. It all started after I visited the most idiot of all GIs, who I went to lower my dose but he instead gave me 3 months supply of 40 mg twice a day Pantaprazole!!!.
Avatar m tn Have been taking 40 mg. of omeprazole for GERD which was diagnosed a year and a half ago. Primary care sent me to ENT for the cough, who did a scope of my throat and sinuses and didn't see anything she thought would cause the cough. ENT tried increasing the omeprazole to 80 mg. (40 mg. 2 times a day) for GERD with no change in my cough and now is treating me with QVal inhaler thinking it could be my lungs.
Avatar m tn No, long term use of Omeprazole is not safe at all. It blocks the secretion of your stomach acid, and stomach acid has multiple functions in your body, none of which are working properly after Omeprazole kicks in.
496495 tn?1224609863 Hello I am a 28 year old male and I am concerned about throat cancer. Almost 2 and a half weeks ago I had laid down to take a nap and when I awoke I had weird pain on the left side of my throat when I swallowed. This lasted for about a day and got a lot better but there was still some minor pain every so often when I swallowed. I do have acid reflux and allergies with bad post nasal drip and had a scope about 2 and a half years ago showing some minor irritation around my focal cords.
Avatar m tn The blood test was positive and now I am under triple regimen ..(clarithromycin, amoxil, omeprazole) and am asked to take them for two weeks and after that go for another H pylori test which will most probably be negative. My bleeding has stopped since then (took lots of liquids so the stool is softer). My question is ... is just a blood test enough for H pylor or should i go for endoscopy or CT scan.
Avatar m tn I take omeprazole and have constant pain under my breasts at the top of my tummy. I have had a colonoscopy, they removed a polip from this but other than that it was normal. I have had a laparoscopy to check my overies that was normal. I have had an USS and MRI both normal. I am due to have a gastroscopy next week so I am hoping to have an ulcer or soemthing simple that can either be removed or take a tablet and it will have gone?
Avatar f tn Ohh and opinions please on when to take this omeprazole, people say go against night time and have it in the morning.
1090423 tn?1286287650 my doc did run blood tests and a urine and stool test , they came back clear , so i am totally puzzled because it is now getting annoying
Avatar f tn I have heartburn I am constantly burping and I feel like my stomach is burning and it makes really strange sounds. Has this ever happened to anyone??? I'm just woried it might be stomach cancer or something!!! Please help. Thanks.
Avatar m tn Was given endoscopy and prescribed omeprazole (40mg) until next endoscopy in one year. Was told the pain should go away in about a month. It's been about 2 months and the pain is still just as bad. Could I not have a hernia or ulcer and could this have been overlooked somehow in the endoscopy?
Avatar m tn How your antacid drug is making you sick (Part A) by Chris Kresser
Avatar m tn s patients usually have low or no acid which makes me concerned about taking this. And I read about ensuring you space out when you take omeprazole. I also have low ferritin and was taking iron, which I saw online is contradicted. Does anyone have experience with taking this?
1658379 tn?1302367230 Also possibility of acidity, gastritis, GERD, and gastric reflux is there and an endoscopy may be required. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks, caffeine, and spicy food. See if this helps. Consult a gastroenterologist. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have the same problem and was just prescribed omeprazole for one month, I cannot swallow or eat, should I take the omeprazole? Is it safe and will it help?
Avatar m tn At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
581954 tn?1223391496 Is it possible for this to be a side effect from Omeprazole? And how long does it take to get out of your system? I have heard it could take 3 months and I have heard it won't take longer than a week??
Avatar n tn I do go to my gyn regularly and I do not have a history of ovarian cancer in my family. I have just read some internet stuff though, that talks about indigestion and ovarian symptoms. Maybe it is a different type of indigestion that is associated with ovarian, I don't know. I just want to be sure that I have done my due diligence. I guess it is hard for me to believe that this gerd is not caused by something really bad that I am not aware of, lurking in my body.
Avatar n tn Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
Avatar n tn t correct the underlying problem, but it can alleviate a good deal of the pain associated with ulcers by reducing the amount of stomach acid (the actual substance causing the pain). Omeprazole and other PPIs can and do give ulcer patients a better quality of life while they heal.
Avatar n tn The symptoms have not resolved and the specialist says I should continue with Omeprazole for another month and if symptoms do not resolve then go for an ultrasound. Please indicate whether I should be concerned with his prescribed treatment and recomendations. Could this be something more serious or would definitely be related to the H. Pylori.
