Avatar n tn The connection between omega-3 fatty acid deficiency and ADHD has been confirmed by studies in which youngsters with ADHD, when compared with non-ADHD children had much lower blood levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid necessary for normal function of the eyes and the cerebral cortex (the brain region that handles higher functions such as reasoning and memory). Scientific Evidence Two types of fatty acids are considered essential.
180992 tn?1383377657 I left you a not on another thread with a link to a previous Omega Interferon study. I too was interested but the SVR rates for Omega interferon on the study done were only 36%. Did you check out that link?
612551 tn?1450025775 It seems our friend the dog also benefits from a good dose of Omega 3, as sound in fish. We have our Westie on a sweet potato fish formula kibble and I wonder if it could be improved by breaking open a one human (the type we may take 3 or more of a day) fish oil capsule and drizzle it over the main kibble meal. Yes, I have read the advice on feeding some canned food too, and am working my way up to that.
Avatar f tn Sorry, forgot about the omega 7 oils. These are found in fish oil, along with the omega 3 oils, but in the process of isolating the oil the heat used will often kill them off. There's a new fish oil supplement by New Chapter that supposedly doesn't kill them off. As to their effectiveness for your vaginal health, I don't know. I do know that evening primrose oil is helpful for that, but again, have no idea if that will do anything to rid you of an infection.

242516 tn?1368227505 Spending time in the sun is the best thing about the summer, but unfortunately the worst thing for your unprotected skin. Not only can it lead to skin cancer, it can result in premature wrinkling, discoloration, and changes in texture. Here are some ways to avoid the harmful effects of the sun without having to hide from the bright warmth of summer: 1) Slather on sunscreen every day. No matter how long you spend outdoors, sunlight streaming indoors can expose you to damaging UVA rays.
Avatar m tn -Check out vitamin E and skin. Found highly in sunflower seeds. -Check out omega 3 and skin (The most essential since the right fats build the right sebum) Try organic hemp seeds as sort of a quick fix as they have omega 3,6,9 in perfecf proportion, and have helped me recover from dry skin within 2 days during my past experiences. -Stop it with the creams and how did you even dare to exfoliate! Ouch. Email me on blueberry_hill***@**** if you want specifics.
Avatar n tn My son was this same way when he was between 4 & 5 years old. Doctors wanted to put him on lithium or depakote but I refused due his age and the possibility of organ damage. If he needs it later in life then we will cross that bridge when we come to it. Behavior like this can be a symptom of an essential fatty acid deficiency. I started my son on Efalex in May 1999 and within two weeks his rages, tantrums, and out of control behavior stopped. He has been taking Efalex ever since.
942557 tn?1272698419 The Steroid Injections help the inflamation (For a short time), but will not resolve the problem. The antibiotics only make it worse! I suspect his ear problems are yeast, also. I would ask your Vet to treat for yeast. There are fungal medications by presription and he/she could prescribe one. Now, on your part: NO, Do not remove any nasal fold. That is unnecessary pain and surgery for him! Do a search on things to avoid for yeast problems.
Avatar m tn That's late in the game, and certainly no basis for decided whether the omega-3's prevented or caused their cancer. Remember that half the men in this study came down with prostate cancer. Consider someone who's never bothered much with supplements and then learns he has cancer. In a panic he starts taking lots of vitamin C, vitamin E — the whole gamut of supplements, including fish oil. It's a good thing to do.
Avatar m tn NOT sure about that, but I did hear that that sensation in the legs is a symptom of that, and that in some cases, the skin crawling sensation can occur all over the body, not just the legs, and still be considered RLS. Undecided about RLS possibility. The only other things I have going on that MAY be related, is an upper back pain/numbness... unknown cause. Been going on for years though. No diagnosis. So basically I'm out of ideas, and about to go insane.
612551 tn?1450025775 Cellulose is sometimes added to dilute the number of calories per serving and to give the feeling of fullness when it is eaten. Except for the usual benefits of fiber, powdered cellulose provides no nutritional value to a dog. Fish oil is naturally rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and (depending on the level of its purity) should be considered a healthy addition. From here, the list goes on to include a number of other items.
Avatar m tn She could see the thinned skin where the foreskin was leaving a ring like mark. The end of the foreskin ring presses in to the skin. This can leave 3 marks sometimes. They also seem to think the red dots under my skin are thrush. When I use the creams they disappear so maybe I get reinfected due to poor skin. So definitely I will use this cream for a while. Also.
Avatar n tn The other thing is I recently lost a bunch of weight too, and that's when I noticed the skin on my elbows. I think at least some of the problem is from the weight loss, which makes some sense. I figure if I exercise my arms, it'll "pick up" some of the slack, so to speak! As far as cipro and levaquin - have you been really sick lately? These antibiotics are often given for heavyduty infections. So maybe your issues will resolve when your body regains balance?
144210 tn?1273092382 They get rancid quicker for that reason, thats why all these food industries have originally introduced the trans fats. On the other hand, the need for omega-3 PUFAs is so fundamental - see other threads- , that this handicap has to be overcome in other ways, As long as ALA ( alpha lipoic acid), NAC/Vit C, Taurin and possibly Q-10 are at proper availibility, the local antioxidant system will prevent the excessive Lipidperoxidation of PUFAs.
Avatar n tn Omega-3 fatty acids are also found in fatty fish like tuna and salmon. We know that omega-3 fatty acids lower levels of triglycerides, a type of fat in the bloodstream. Experts are not exactly sure how. Omega-3 fatty acids may also slow down the growth of plaques inthe arteries and prevent blood clots. There are a number of small studies that show that walnuts help lower cholesterol.
Avatar f tn if you aren't already take lots of vitamin B, calcium/magnesium, omega 3 oil to help with symptoms and mood. Well, the weekend is here...ahh! I long for the days when it really meant freedom and carefree!

Avatar m tn You only need a quarter cup of walnuts a day for their health benefits. Walnuts reduce the risk developing cancer, particularly, breast cancer and prostate cancer. In a study conducted on mice, two handfuls of walnuts (the human equivalent!) cut breast cancer risks in half and slowed tumor growth by 50% . The amino acid l-arginine in walnuts benefits anyone with heart disease, or those who are at risk for developing heart disease. Walnuts also contain omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).

Avatar m tn A recent study that analyzed the health benefits of different parts of the walnut the skin, the “meat” and the oil found most of the heart healthy benefits come from the oil. You can release walnuts’ volatile oils by roasting them in a dry pan over medium heat until fragrant. I use walnut oil on my salads.
Avatar m tn For comparison, a serving of salmon contains 2 or 3 grams of omega-3 fatty acids while a serving of mahi mahi delivers only .24 grams. Mahimahi is a sustainable seafood option. It’s considered an ocean-friendly choice because it is a very fast growing fish and the methods used to catch mahi mahi don’t damage the habitat of other fish. Always look for US caught mahi mahimahi. look for fish with a pinkish flesh and bright skin.
Avatar m tn ” 3) Deficiency in omega 3 fatty acids hurts heart health. “Omega 3 is a powerful natural anti-inflammatory,” he says. There’s plenty of research which shows omega 3 boosts heart health. Those studies say it’s your best option for cooling inflammation. 4) Oxidative stress damages your heart. Free radical damage causes inflammation and increases stroke risk. “Oxidative stress is detrimental to health and is definitely [linked] with heart disease,” says Dr. Lundell.
1829282 tn?1325595258 Apples are loaded with the powerful antioxidants quercetin and catechin, which protect cells from damage - that means a reduced risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease, especially if you eat the skin. Research shows that the apple peel contains five times more polyphenols than the flesh. Apples and their skins pack a lot of fiber too (about twice that of other common fruits, including peaches, grapes, and grapefruit), which may help fight the battle of the bulge.
Avatar n tn 5 hour shift). I did the omega three thing too to the max. I also had severe and constant diarrhea the entire time I was on the medicine to the point that it was bloody most of the time. My face was very swollen, pale, and I had dark sunken in eyes. Nobody knew that I was on lexapro, but everybody told me that I looked unhealthy.
Avatar m tn (A mutivitamin is probably a no-brainer) 3) Get into a more active routine like working out 3 times a week or going on jogs. Being physically active works wonders for the mind. I don't know what it is, but being active gives me this feeling that is just plain good. I imagine this feeling will help keep anxiety at bay. 4) Go to websites and forums such as this one and read about what other people are going through and inform yourself on what may or may not be causing your situation.
Avatar m tn For a healthy omega-3 brain boost, look for fish that are low in contaminants and have stable populations, such as wild-caught Alaskan salmon, Atlantic mackerel, or pole- or troll-caught Pacific albacore tuna. Got a more adventurous palate? Try snakehead fish to satisfy your fish craving and improve the environment. The invasive species lives on land and water, where it wipes out important frogs, birds, and other critters.
Avatar m tn In fact, the University of Maryland has a complete reference page about the benefits of omega-3s that verifies the statements made by Diamond Food. Avatar f tn For me it usually starts in the afternoon and gets worse as the evening goes on. When i wake up in the morning, it's much much better. So I am wondering is it acutally my thyroid (I do know it's slightly enlarged and a small nodule) or is it something else. Thanks!!!!
Avatar m tn It’s thought that up to 90 percent of the antioxidants in walnuts are found in the skin, making it one of the healthiest parts to consume. In some cases, the skin can be rather bitter, which is why most people tend to peel it off, but by doing so you’re actually removing some of the healthiest parts.
