Omega 3 and diabetes

Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 and diabetes

omega-3

Avatar f tn You should be taking omega 3 in any case. Statins, by lowering cholesterol, also interfere with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients, which of course includes omega 3. The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL.

Avatar f tn I take one to fight babybrain. Omegas are stripped from myelin shealths during pregnancy and since they act as lubricant in the conduction of, essentially thoughts, our thought process is slowed. I didn't ask my doc about it yet but it does clear up fog in my brain.
Avatar f tn you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well.

Avatar m tn I took an Omega-3 supplement for the first time before going to bed last night, and when I woke up one eye was very swollen and puffy. The only allergies I have had are seasonal. Could I be allergic to the Omega-3 supplement?

Avatar n tn In a nutshell, you need to eat more omega 3s and cut back on omega 6s. Slash your carbs and go for healthy fats and protein. And look to boost your intake of antioxidants. Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you need to do: Make omega 3 fatty acids part of your daily diet. So much scientific evidence shows that omega 3s are vital to heart health. And there are plenty of good sources to choose from. There’s no good reason not to enjoy omega 3s.
Avatar n tn I am not sure of your question. Are you asking where omega 3 and omega 6 foods come from? Omegas 3 / 6 are polyunsaturated oils that help lower cholesterol and help prevent blood platelets from clotting blood vessel walls. The best source is fish especially mackerel, tuna, salmon, and lake trout. Fish should be eaten 2-3 times a week. Omega 3 are found in whole nuts, soy nuts / oil, and canola oil. Recommend 1-2 teaspoons of nuts daily. Hope this answered your question.
Avatar f tn Many diabetic clinics provide such testing for free. You might try some alpha-lipoic acid, 1000 mg of omega-3 fish oil, and some slow release niacin. The niacin improves the microcirculation, as does the omega-3 fish oil. If you are paying cash and specify you only want an hba1c and a fasting glucose test it shouldn't be very expensive. To evaluate the thyroid a test known as a TSH is required. This is also inexpensive.
122065 tn?1241385329 Yes, I do take ******* Omega Guard which is a full spectrum of seven Omega-3's including DHA and EPA. I understand that there have been many studies on the benefits of Omega Fish oil on the eyes and body as a whole, so I started using it sometime ago. I'll continue with that and give the Restasis a good try. I have no risk factors such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes or obesity, so I think your suggestion of 2 a day is fine.
Avatar n tn i have checked all the books i have on diabetes, which are many, and also many of the magazines about diabetes i get. i have never had a doctor bring up these substances in exam/conversation meetings.
Avatar n tn I am on Synthoid, Metformin and Lovaza (basic Omega-3 acid to help lower triglycerides.) If the medication does not lower my level, should I ask the doctor to look at other underlining causes?
Avatar n tn My husband has severe dry eyes, and has started taking omega 3 and flax seed oil. It is working very well, but his dose (after gradual increase to a point of benefit) is more than recommended. Can he overdose on 3 times the normal dose of purified omega 3 fish oil..the brand he takes is Health from the Sea PFO pure fish oil liquid. He takes twice the dose of the flax seed oil (same brand name).
Avatar m tn Higher concentrations of EPA and DHA, the active components in omega-3s, can also be found in LOVAZA — the first and only prescription omega-3 medication. It is important to know that some types of fish may contain mercury and other pollutants from the environment. Therefore, the American Heart Association (AHA) cautions that some people should limit the amount of certain types of fish they eat.
Avatar n tn Immediately see a podiatrist at the slightest infection. And see a podiatrist regularly, in any event. 1000 mg of omega-3 fish oils and a slow-release niacin tablet once a day will help with microcirculation. Take special care to insure your hba1c is within normal limits. Alpha-lipoic acid supplements have been anecdotally recommended to assist in stopping nerve damage. From the standpoint of the literature, the jury is out.
Avatar m tn t just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints. It can also reduce your clotting factor if taken in too high doses, causing excessive bleeding.
317787 tn?1473358451 Hi there! I just found this group and was wondering if anyone had tried Omega 3 supplements. I am trying them now for stiffness in joints, body. I've also read it can help with brain fog or fuzzy thinking.
Avatar f tn t be shy with good fats (avocado, grass fed butter, olive oil, nuts, etc), and stay away from fake fats like margarine. Opt for high omega 3 fats, like salmon, avocado, butter, and stay away from omega 6 fats ( sun flower, grape seed, etc). High omega 6 fats cause inflammation in body and promotes diabetic conditions/symptoms as well as causing pain in joints. At every meal, eat non starchy veg with meat/fish/eggs, and don't be shy with fats (butter, olive oil, bacon, avocado, etc).
