Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 and dandruff

1351676 tn?1301343036 I have a black cat and he has started to get really bad dandruff. How can I treat this?
Avatar m tn Of course, a vet would likely know if they looked at it. But with the dandruff like description and the winter months where heaters run and humidity tends to be lower in the house, it seems as if dry skin is a possibility. You might try a humidifier in the area she spends most her time.
436973 tn?1217950689 Omega-3. I would go to the Vitamin Shoppe and get Carlson’s Salmon Oil which has nice high levels of EPA and DHA and is free of detectable levels of mercury, cadmium, lead, PCB's and 28 other contaminants. I trust this one so much I give it to my cat in capsules with each meal. I just clip the end of the capsule with a small scissors or pierce it with a sharp pin and squeeze a few drops on to the food. Since it changes the food taste to fish taste, they usually love it.
Avatar n tn ) He's lost the 3 extra pounds he was carrying and his muscle tone looks wonderful. And as I said, his coat actually looks really nice and shiny. But he still has dandruff, and some days it's only a few flakes, but some days it's really, really bad! He NEVER scratches. I'm home with him all day, and he doesn't scratch or bite at himself or seem the least bit uncomfortable, and his energy levels seem normal as well. His skin doesn't seem dry, which seems weird.
Avatar n tn Now that the weather had gotten cold and dry, my boston is shedding and has dandruff. is there a supplement that i can add to his food to improve his coat and eliminate the dry skin?
Avatar f tn I would like to give Sammy wet food , but we can't change his food plan without consulting our vet. You suggest giving him some omega 3 acids for his dandruff problem. What is the best way to give Sammy omega 3 acids ? Thank you for replying to my question, opus88. It is very much appreciated.
Avatar f tn Add a little extra virgin olive oil to your dogs meals and/or supplement with Essential Omega-3 Fatty Acids. You might also reduce the weekly flea baths and intermix them with organic oatmeal baths which are quite soothing. Remember for most of us, the fall season is approaching which is when dogs shed their coats to prepare for winter.
Avatar f tn It's been 3 weeks since my last INF shot and 4 weeks since my last riba pill. Maybe my hair was already thinning during tx (I did it for only 13 weeks), but I didn't really notice it. But now it's falling out like crazy. Each time I run a comb through my hair nowadays, I find anywhere from one to ten hairs in the comb. My brother just told me that my hair looked really thin, like an old lady's. Oh my God! He never notices people's hair unless it's extreme.
Avatar f tn I have tried to give him a bath every week to clean it up (I use oatmeal shampoo) but when I thought it had cleared up I slacked off, and it turns into this brown buildup on his skin, like skin oils mixed with dandruff and dirt. It was manageable over the summer (we thought it was just allergies) but has actually gotten worse since winter came. Is this allergies to something inside, or a skin infection, or something else? What would be the best way to manage it, or treat it?
Avatar f tn Give her 1000 mg of Omega 3 fatty acids by mouth twice per day. Omega 3 fatty acids are available from fish sources, i.e.: Marine Lipids or Marine Algae sources and can be purchased over the counter at drug or health food stores. A good brand is Carlson Fish Oils. Please begin with a lower dose and gradually increase to the recommended dose over a 2 week period of time to avoid stomach issues.
Avatar f tn 28, 2012, so I'm hoping for some significant, positive changes within a month or two. In the meantime, I take biotin, omega-3, iron, zinc, magnesium, D3, and coq10, and eat foods rich in good nutrients. I use a zinc shampoo that cleans well, but not harshly. And, I pray a lot.
Avatar m tn They were on royal cabin puppy but I just changed them to Blue grain free chicken to see if it would help and have been adding salmon oil omega 3-6 to their food for a week. Any idea why the itchingb& hair loss on three young pups? nO Fleas and vet has given me advantage multi for walking dandruff ect just I case but they don't even have dry skiing or dandruff at all...
Avatar f tn Try adding one to two teaspoons of Omega 3 Fatty acids to the food to try to speed things up. Begin very slowly and gradually increase over time. Try to find a hypoallergenic version of the omega 3 fatty acids, if possible. If it is not available than don't use it.

Avatar f tn You can try adding some Omega 3 to his food daily and see if that helps the skin condition. Are you bathing him often? If so, in what and are you making sure to rinse the products out thoroughly? The only way you can see if it is a food allergy is to do an elimination diet and keep a diary and that can take a while. If you do this, you can only feed that one food and only add anything else one at a time and wait a week to two weeks to see if there is any reactions. Not easy.
Avatar n tn What does dandruff shampoo do for the flaky dermatitis on the eyelid? Are you saying by strictly using a dandruff shampoo that will help the flaky dry skin go away on your eyelid? Or do you use the shampoo and also rub it on your eyelid during the process? Hmmm, confused.
1608004 tn?1390774590 All you need to do is go to your local pet store and buy a special shampoo for cats for dandruff, itchiness, and dry skin. And, you can buy some salmon oil or omega 3 oil for cats and give her a half teaspoon a day in her food. This should really help a lot. I have done it myself and my cat looks great!
Avatar f tn I experimented and cut all my hair off, eyebrows too. And all the dry patches went away. Now my hair is back and its back worse than ever. My dermatologist is no help at all and she claims its not funga but it grows into a circle like ring worm.
883151 tn?1245518109 I put albuteral in it for him to breath, he has his eczema problem and I always have to rub cream into some new rash he has, and now he has to see a dermatologist because his head is so dry and he's going bald. My poor baby. I hope he can get through all of this. We do real good at keeping everything under control and no one would ever know he has these problems if I didn't tell anyone.
Avatar n tn I have had bad anxiety for the past 3 months that started with my job and has moved to my health as every little thing seems to make me think I am dying. I do ask that you all try this as I noticed it a week ago and have been keeping a close eye on it ever since. Pay close attention when you are doing something you love, such as eat ice cream, play video games, read etc... do you notice that it goes away until you start thinking about it more?
Avatar f tn So I feel it's got to be connected, but the vet said to keep him on the limited ingredient food and add some omega 3-6 oil, and my PCP doesn't seem to think this new itchy/crawly symptom warrants any allergy testing (not sure why). Is it possible to develop an allergy to a pet after many years, and does this kind of itching/crawling skin symptom sound normal for a dog allergy?
Avatar f tn put them on holistic blue grain free chicken kibble and also adding salmon oil omega 3-6 in their food daily for one week now. What else could this be? I have bathed them in oatmeal shampoo as well. They are eating drinking and playing normally. Very happy pups.. But something is causing them to scratch their neck and lose hair, no redness to the area, no bumps, nothing but hair loss ..
1253197 tn?1331212710 I am also on Lyrica (previously gabapentin but it made me put on weight and I think I lost some hair). I am also taking vitamin D, multivitamins, Q10 and omega 3 fish oils. I take a small dose of amitriptylin at night and am on the mini pill. I have not got dandruff, and as far as I am aware have not got head lice as I asked a friend to check. I ahve not changed my shampoo recently and so I feel that it is neurological.

Avatar f tn Use legumes like kidney beans and lentils, eat plenty of dark green vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids. Spinach, like broccoli and Swiss chard, is an excellent source of vitamins A and C, which your body needs to produce sebum. The oily substance, secreted by your hair follicles, is the body's natural hair conditioner. Try Phyto Phytophanere Dietary Supplement - Hair & Nails or Folicure Vitamin Hair Supplement. If you take these regularly you should see some results.

Avatar m tn Before I'd find myself wandering off into the bathroom every few hours to look at the damage this crap has done. And as of 3 days ago I've started taking an omega 3-6-9 supplement. It has fish, flax, borage, black currant, and evening primrose. I know I should avoid taking a supplement like that since the everyday diet consists of more than enough omega 6's. But I've been avoiding any forms of oils like the plague, so I guess it can't hurt, right?

689528 tn?1364139441 So your on a quality dog food now and your adding Omega 3's. Maybe two or 3 1200mg caps? Did you start adding the probiotics? Probiotics and fungi do not like to live in the same area. They don't get along at ALL. No more hot spots? So thats progress, right? Dogs are so in tuned to what is happening in the household that it is possible a part of the cause is stress.
