Avatar n tn Well, Viagra is not safe at all in the presence of nitroglycerin tablets and in fact, we know that if anyone takes Viagra with nitroglycerin tablets, that the blood pressure can be lowered precipitously and can be lowered to such levels as can be extraordinarily dangerous to you. [ABC News report from May 2008 - Internet] As we know, not everyone experiences negative side effects from every medication.
572651 tn?1530999357 I have nitroquik - sublingual nitroglycerin - to take if I have angina pains - this morning about 5 am I was miserable and couldn't tell if it was heart or ms symptoms and I took one. As always it stopped my discomfort, depressed my already low blood pressure and I went to sleep for about 3 hours. I've used nitroquik for the past 3 months or so and it always stops the pain and gives me relief within minutes.
1677369 tn?1304526277 I am 47, have had 25 heart caths since nov 06,three heart attacks, three stents in the LAD,have three leaky valves, small artery dz, chf, and coronary art.dz. I have extreme chest pain and have spells of blacking out. they have done the halters, all that jazz, and now when i cant take it any more and go to to the Dr. or the hospital, they check me and then come off with " well you know you have small artery dz".
Avatar m tn And why would you use something that is not prescribed your MD. Nitroglycerin is not a.drug to mess with. If it ended up on the wrong person, in the wrong concentration, there could be severe consequences.
Avatar f tn My almost 9 year old papillon was diagnosed today with CHF. My vet took xrays of his lungs and showed me the enlarged heart and edema. He always had a heart murmur which was a stage 3 in late November, progressed to stage 5 today. He began coughing, and vomiting over the weekend so I knew something was up. He had a Lasix shot today, nitroglycerin applied to his ear and is now going to take Vetmedin 1/2 tablet twice per day, Enalaparil, 1/2 tab twice per day and Lasix 12.5 mg. bid.
Avatar f tn As a CHF patient, I of course weight daily. Was just recently put on Lasix in past week because of problems with fluid in lungs, and have been taking it religiously every day. My weight is the same, but I can't take as deep of a breath as yesterday, I'm slightly wheezing, and I can feel fluid come out of my throat with every little cough. This feels exactly how it felt when I was first diagnosed with CHF a month ago.
Avatar n tn One night I woke up to go to the bathroom and my breathing became more and more labored. I popped in a nitroglycerin one at a time; I used my COPD inhaler. Finally, I called 311 and was taken to the hospital. The doctors guessed I had pneumonia and put me in a HARD mask to clear my lungs. I liken the condition to severe asthma. This happened 2 or 3 more times in the course of one year.
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
1648674 tn?1308696316 Yes, an autopsy would show fluids in the lung tissues. Also, the lung and heart have a normal size and weight, and an autopsy would weigh the organs and an over weight of the organ would indicate fluids in the lungs. Also, the left ventricle would have oversized heart walls, etc. Also, if necessary the heart vessels can be inspected for any plaque buildup and the advancement of the disease...
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar m tn One study found that taking 2 grams three times daily of vitamin C can decrease this effect when nitroglycerin patches are simultaneously used.2 Similar benefits have been confirmed in another study.3 However, it should be noted that it is also possible to avoid tolerance to these drugs by simply changing the dosing schedule. People taking ISMN or nitroglycerin should talk with their pharmacists about avoiding drug tolerance. I change dosing schedules!
Avatar m tn I have been experiencing left sided chest pains and left arm pain for several months now...I would describe the pain to be mostly pressure/tightnes in nature, sometimes it could be sharp in nature, the pain shoots down my left arm. The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal.
11389921 tn?1417798614 I am almost 37, and I have had abnormal EKGs since at least about 1999/2000 that I know of because of bradycardia. My heart rate is usually in the high 40s to low 50s. I am not an athlete :). I had an echo that was normal with 60-65% EF and only trace tricuspid and pulmonic valvular regurgitation. The Cardiologist did a nuclear stress test that showed EF at 60% but abnormal EKG with NSR, anteroseptal MI.
Avatar f tn t believe it would say right then and there a patient is in CHF. A patient with CHF has the symptoms of the disease and tests such as a BNP would diagnose that. People aren't in CHF 24/7 ; they have periods where they go into CHF; there are times when a patient who has been diagnosed with CHF may be doing well.
Avatar n tn I was being treated for pneumonia with 10 days of levaquin and lodrain 24 D. On the fifth day I started having moderate and continual pain between my sholder blades in the upper back and heartburn (no heartburn for 25 years previously) and extreme fatigue. I thought it was the pneumonia and didn't go to the doctor for five days. My blood test then showed troponin was high, doctor said I may have had a heart attack. Doctor wanted a stress test ... which showed normal.
Avatar n tn I have occasion severe pain in the upper back behind heart region. Have had stent in major heart artery. Nitroglycerine immediately stops pain...not similar to pain before stent inserted. Former pain was in chest, jaw, and arm. Is this heart related or spine ? Usually occurs at night, wakes me up. Very infrequent.
1132705 tn?1260482521 I am wondering if you think we will see more patients in the future getting filtration-type treatments for their CHF? As a Telemetry RN in an acute care facility, I see frequent admissions and then subsequent readmissions (over and over) for exacerbation of CHF. Our hospital has core measures that we follow on every CHF patient in order to ensure an Echo has been done within the past 6 mos and if warrented a Rx for an ACE inhibitor.
Avatar n tn She still coughs up crud a few times a day. Even before the chf she was having brief spasms in her shoulders and front legs about once a week. Over 4 years that progressed to now having spasms of her entire trunk about a hundred times day and losing control of her legs and dropping to the floor at least a dozen times a day. Lowering her head down to take a drink brings on both symptoms. Trying to fall asleep increases the body spasms.
Avatar m tn The same with his recent heart catherization was chest pressure. In the ER he was given 2 nitroglycerin, 5 minutes apart, the chest pressure went away after the 2nd nitroglycerin. Does any good specialist in cardiology think that my husband should have the open heart surgery for bypasses considering the risks regarding his age, his diabetes? I would appreciate very explanatory answers, easy to understand, what to do in my husband's situation. Thankyou.
Avatar m tn my daughter is 23 and has been in CHF for almost 4 years her lowest ef had been 32 and now it is 45 a very good indicator of CHF is a blood test called BNP, brain natriuretic peptide. This test is a very good indicator for CHF... check with your cardiologist what those levels were at the beginning and what they are now...
Avatar n tn I assume the diagnosis of hyperreactive responses not only to the constrictor effects of acetylcholine, but also the dilator effects of nitroglycerin were detected diffusely in the epicardial coronary arteries of patients with coronary spastic angina. The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains.
