Avatar n tn I was diagnose with clogged arteries over a year ago. I even had a stent put in because one of my arteries was ecluded. I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low.
Avatar m tn I am patiently waiting for the vet to call me back - I took my dog in for heavy, labored breathing, not eating, and generally being lethargic. Xrays and ekg were done and the vet thinks ity may be congestive heart failure. There is a chance it is heartworm, so they are doing that test as well. If the heartworm was negative, they were going to start her on nitroglycerin and lasix to bring her heart rate down.
Avatar m tn And I learned this on my own. Nitroglycerin - for most - is used for Angina - as most people hear about. But it is a HUGE therapy for people with Congestive Heart Failure [CHF] also more described today as Heart Failure [HF] I'm telling you...................Nitro has saved my life more than once when Pulmonary Edema has reared its' ugly head. When I call the ambulance - I follow the directions and take my Nitro - one - spread 5 minutes apart for a total of 3.
572651 tn?1530999357 My bp is also low - averages 90/60 but the nitro is for the angina which is not bp related. I find it really knocks me out for a while after I get over the headache ..... If my pain is really MS related and not cardio related, I'm wondering what the nitro is really doing.............
Avatar m tn Nitrate Medications for heart disease - The combination of vitamin C with nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, or isosorbide mononitrate reduces the occurrence of nitrate tolerance. Nitrate tolerance is when the body builds up a tolerance to the medicine so that it no longer has its desired effect. People taking nitrate-containing medications generally follow a 12 hours on, 12 hours off schedule to avoid this tolerance.
Avatar m tn What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin? I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do. And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
1677369 tn?1304526277 This blockage can happen either due to fat deposits or due to spasm. For spasm nitrates can be used. For fat deposits or atherosclerosis statins, antiplatelet drugs and weight management with keep your cholesterol under control can help. Hope this helps. Best.
Avatar f tn My almost 9 year old papillon was diagnosed today with CHF. My vet took xrays of his lungs and showed me the enlarged heart and edema. He always had a heart murmur which was a stage 3 in late November, progressed to stage 5 today. He began coughing, and vomiting over the weekend so I knew something was up. He had a Lasix shot today, nitroglycerin applied to his ear and is now going to take Vetmedin 1/2 tablet twice per day, Enalaparil, 1/2 tab twice per day and Lasix 12.5 mg. bid.
1132705 tn?1260482521 I am wondering if you think we will see more patients in the future getting filtration-type treatments for their CHF? As a Telemetry RN in an acute care facility, I see frequent admissions and then subsequent readmissions (over and over) for exacerbation of CHF. Our hospital has core measures that we follow on every CHF patient in order to ensure an Echo has been done within the past 6 mos and if warrented a Rx for an ACE inhibitor.
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
419964 tn?1333301906 There is no average age to get CHF. Some people get it from having a virus that attacks the heart, some people get it from drugs, and some people get it because of family history or high blood pressure. It is very serious, so you need to be very careful what you eat. The best thing would be to eliminate red meat. Eat organic fresh vegetables, organic fresh fruits, brown rice, salmon for the omega 3.
Avatar n tn I have COPD and bullous emphysema. I have had pneumonia for several months. I have done levaquin, then 20 days of cefepime IV 3 times a day. I cleared up substantially. I am now taking an antibiotic called bactrim. I seems to be still hanging around, ie coughing up the yellow/light green sputum and tired. No temperature. Is the pneumonia ever going to go away?
Avatar m tn m a heart patient myself, but no nitroglycerin for me.
Avatar f tn The reason it is not for the CHF itself but because I take statins for my cholesterol and they are supposed to inhibit the body production of Q10. My cardiologist think that they only have a "placebo" effect abd are useless.
1098952 tn?1270309713 If a person with HCM were to take nitroglycerin, the symptoms would worsen and the nitroglycerin could even cause a catastrophic deterioration in the person's condition".
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar m tn The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal. My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low.
Avatar f tn I have CHF which has been stable for over 1 year. Have bi-vent pacer. EF%25%. Diagnosed with DCM in 2001 with damage to LV from chemo. Nodule on CT scan right middle lobe on the fissure. Failed biopsy due to blood in sample. Need VATS to identify. Plan on wedge. I am most concerned with post op days and weeks because of my CHF (not the surgical procedure). Any advice will be appreciated. I do not have diabetes or hypertension. Some minor GI distress.
Avatar f tn in order for subq fluids to make the CHF worse, the kitty would need to first have CHF...yes it could worsen a pre-existing condition but as we said above it will not cause it!! Too much fluid accumulating around the heart is not good for CHF kitties. 150ml is alot of fluid at one time IMO......
11389921 tn?1417798614 I had a left heart cath with EF 65% and only a mild increase in end-diastolic pressures. My arteries were not blocked. Meanwhile, for at least the last couple of years, my ankles and legs have been severely swollen and now will no longer respond to diuretics. I responded much better to fluid restriction, but I am still swollen.
Avatar f tn s also recommended for a number of conditions, including high blood pressure, PTSD, enlarged prostate, CHF, Raynaud's disease, pheochromocytoma, and Ergot alkaloid poisoning. http://www.everydayhealth.
Avatar n tn Female age 50 ... I was being treated for pneumonia with 10 days of levaquin and lodrain 24 D. On the fifth day I started having moderate and continual pain between my sholder blades in the upper back and heartburn (no heartburn for 25 years previously) and extreme fatigue. I thought it was the pneumonia and didn't go to the doctor for five days. My blood test then showed troponin was high, doctor said I may have had a heart attack. Doctor wanted a stress test ... which showed normal.
Avatar n tn CHF is a condition where the heart does not effectively pump out all the blood received from the lungs, and blood and fluids backup and leak into the lung tissues. One does not always have CHF, but the underlying cause for CHF is the determining factor. Your weak contractions (EF below 50) can be due to heart muscle damage or cardiomyopathy (dilatation of the left ventricle). If there is heart muscle damage due to heart attack, viral disease, etc.
Avatar f tn t believe it would say right then and there a patient is in CHF. A patient with CHF has the symptoms of the disease and tests such as a BNP would diagnose that. People aren't in CHF 24/7 ; they have periods where they go into CHF; there are times when a patient who has been diagnosed with CHF may be doing well.
Avatar n tn You should see a doctor, preferably a cardiologist, to discuss possible alternatives/substitutes for Nikoran OD. He/she will be able to give you the proper dosing, make sure there are no contraindications with your other co-morbidities, and make sure there are no unwarranted interactions with other drugs you are currently taking.
1310285 tn?1274484281 My husband was diagnosed with CHF (viral they think) a month ago. He had an echo in the hospital that showed EF of 10%. He is MUCH improved after medication therapy, but they are not repeating the echo to see if there has been any improvement. He is 37 years old and is terrified to do anything because we don't have any evidence one way or another if he's improving. He has his first appointment with the HF specialist on Monday, but they say they are not going to do a repeat echo then.
Avatar m tn I am 29 year old male.............I have always been healthy until recently...........but for the last 2 years I have been tired in everything I do...........and I have a heart beat that slows way down with exchertion..............I took echo about 2 years ago and my ef was a 49 it was not to bad then about a year ago I took a catscan on my heart and my ef was 43 then just recently I did another and it dropped to 39.............
Avatar f tn I am 53 female w/SLE, systemic lupus for almost 10 years. Barrett's esophagus, GERD, gastic paralysis, fibromyalgi, chronic fatigue, Sicca syndrome, list goes on.....This is something new...sudden very severe shooting pain going up right side of neck, carotid area, sometimes into ear, but not always. Avatar m tn He had a heart catherization recently and was found to have several blocked arteries. He had 2 stents put in 2011. Are the risks too great for my husband at his age with insulin dependent diabetes for 19 years to have open heart surgery? His cardiologist so far has put him a medication regimen to try to help with his blocked arteries. The only sympton he has had with the placing of the stents was Chest Pressure, no other symptoms.
