Avatar n tn The doctor said the left heart was okay but found a narrowing in the right heart which caused coronary spasms during the test. IV nitroglycerin during the test stopped the spasms and dilated the vessel. He did not mention any other problems and recommended sublingual nitroglycerin to treat the spasms as they occur.
572651 tn?1530999357 I have nitroquik - sublingual nitroglycerin - to take if I have angina pains - this morning about 5 am I was miserable and couldn't tell if it was heart or ms symptoms and I took one. As always it stopped my discomfort, depressed my already low blood pressure and I went to sleep for about 3 hours. I've used nitroquik for the past 3 months or so and it always stops the pain and gives me relief within minutes.
Avatar n tn s also worth remembering that if you suffer from side effects it is quite likely that you are taking too large a dose and reducing your dosage will reduce the side effects or even remove them altogether. Medical advise should be sought immediately in the rare event of an erection lasting for more than 4hrs. If you have chest pains, dizziness, or nausea during sex, stop and immediately tell your health care provider. Penegra Warnings/Precautions Penegra must be used under doctors supervision.

Can you tell me if the patches used in this way would cause your acid reflux to be worse. When i took the lowest dose of nitroglycerin patches 0.1 didn't notice any but had to move up and now i do. Will this be something that my body may take an adjustment period for before i notice a different of not having symptoms again?

Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
712042 tn?1254569209 4 mg sprays to pull me out of an episode. This top amount of .20 mg is the same amount of IV nitro used during my arrest in May '08 to 'stabilize' me ( EF was 64). I used to be able to do well in '08 on just 0.4mg patch but I've progressively had more episodes in '09 and with minimum exertion since 8-1-09. The increase in episodes and some spasms leads me to think that I am developing more areas of myocardium damage. My local cardiologist feels it's nitro tolerance.
Avatar f tn i have to take blood pressure medication daily - i take at least three different types. i take atenolol (100 mg) and norvasc ( 5 mg) in the morning and clonodine (.4 mg) three times daily. my doctors have told me that if my bottom number reaches 100 to go to er, i also have nitroglycerin to take when my heart feels "funky". you start out with 1 pill; wait 5 minutes, if not better then take another one; wait 5 minutes take another one and call 911. hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs. I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low. So I stopped using my nitroglycerin for about 48 hours so I can take the Viagra.
1098952 tn?1270309713 If a person with HCM were to take nitroglycerin, the symptoms would worsen and the nitroglycerin could even cause a catastrophic deterioration in the person's condition".
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar m tn The pain lasts anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. I have been prescribed nitroglycerin to take as needed for chest pain and this medicine surely helps. I've had several EKGs and cardiac enzymes done which were all normal. I also had a threadmill/stress test done which was normal. My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low.
Avatar f tn hi just a question about steroid use. I dont have MS but was recently diagnosed with Autoimmune Encephalitis after having a brain biopsy 3 weeks ago. Several months ago I was on IVIG which really didn't help my symptoms, so now I'm going to try a trial of prednisone. My neurologist wants to start me on 60mg then slowly taper my dosage. I'm so nervous because I've been reading all the side effects to this large of a dose.
Avatar f tn I fainted though I was taking IV . It is not that usual for me. But once or twice a year I get low BP it starts from 90/60 and goes down to 60/30 or similar. I got my blood tested but nothing shows. One year ago I got my heart checked but nothing is wrong with my heart, the doctors say. I am twin and some doctors say its because of that. But is it possible to have heart problems but it doesnt show during the checking?! I am a little worried. Is there anyway someone could help me?
Avatar f tn I've never heard of nitroglycerin being used to treat migraine, but glad that it worked. But if it keeps on, and sorry to tell you this, but you probably should see a doctor ASAP. It could be the sign of a coming stroke, since it is sudden and very painful. I started with a sudden very different migraine than any I had ever had before. It turned out that within 3 weeks, longer than usual as a gap in time, I had a full carotid artery dissection stroke.
Avatar m tn The same with his recent heart catherization was chest pressure. In the ER he was given 2 nitroglycerin, 5 minutes apart, the chest pressure went away after the 2nd nitroglycerin. Does any good specialist in cardiology think that my husband should have the open heart surgery for bypasses considering the risks regarding his age, his diabetes? I would appreciate very explanatory answers, easy to understand, what to do in my husband's situation. Thankyou.
Avatar n tn I assume the diagnosis of hyperreactive responses not only to the constrictor effects of acetylcholine, but also the dilator effects of nitroglycerin were detected diffusely in the epicardial coronary arteries of patients with coronary spastic angina. The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains.
Avatar n tn They have more info on dosage now so it is probably more safe now than when you were born. Also through the IV it will help relieve pain in your whole body( but won't take pain away) so they probably won't let you walk around. I will be getting Demerol when I can't take the pain anymore because I want to walk around.
Avatar n tn My 54 year old "healthy" husband received a stent yesterday due to a 99% LAD blockage! He is the typical type A personality and this only adds to his already stress overload. I realize we are lucky he is still here and thankful for medical technology. I am just concerned that this will forever be a constant worry for him. Any suggestions of how I can help him. Also I asked his MD about having nitroglycerin to have on hand and he said that this wasn't necessary???
Avatar f tn I have been having no lucky in the past year absorbing my thyroid (synthroid) medication. They now want me to go up on my dosage from 900mcg's to 1,800mcg's, and I heard that is a very lethal amount. My TSH level is over 100 and my T4 level is .3 I think. What about other thyroid medications like Armour or cytomel? Need your opinion!
Avatar m tn My cardiologist has me taking 75 mg, of Lopressor, 360 mg, of verapamil, .4 mg nitroglycerin patch. And now he wants to add 10 mg of Ramapril ( Altace ) a day, my recent cardiosrams have have shown sinus bradycardia. That's before starting the Ramapril , I'm just very leary about starting the Ramapril in first of all the highest dose there is, and second of all it could further lower my heart rate and send my heart in to an AV Block that could lead to many things not good !
Avatar m tn At first I was in panic mode but after settling down a bit tried to forget about it (I could not afford a trip to the doctor as I am uninsured) but along Saturday the pain had not went away (It had died down sown but still existed) so I talked my father into taking me to the local ER to see what was going on. I had an EKG done and some chest X-Rays. I was also given an IV and a nitroglycerin pill.
Avatar n tn There have been studies that Oral or IV makes little difference, but dosage does. Since the typical IV dose is 500-1000 mg per day. The largest oral tablet I am aware of is a 50 mg dose. The problem is that even in divided doses, trying to get down 10-20 50mg tablets is going to make most people pretty sick. Most neurologist go with the IVSM. Doses under 500 mg/day have had issues with limited effectiveness in many studies.
Avatar n tn You should talk to your doctor as you may be a good candidate for a low dose nitroglycerin patch which opens the coronary vessels to increase oxygen supply to the heart. How are you currently managing your COPD? What medications and inhalers are you using? are you on home O2?
Avatar m tn The doctors just did an ECG and say all is good. Is this possible? She is on constant Nitroglycerin and Morphine prn. Should she get a second opinion? What other procedures could she have done to take away this pain? She says the pain is getting more frequent and stronger. Thank you for your responses.
