A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself?

Nitrofurantoin is the generic name of Macrobid and is used to treat urinary tract infections. It is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby, unless it is used during the last 2 to 4 weeks of pregnancy. You can first take the antibiotics until the prescribed period then take the pregnancy test after. I have been experiencing on average one urinary tract infection per month for the past two years. My ultra sound was normal, as well as the urinalysis (taken when no symptoms of a uti were present). I then started taking Nitrofurantoin Macrocrystal (a daily antibiotic or taken after sex, also called Macrodantin). The UTIs went away during this time.
Hi, Its is common for patients who have Interstitial Cystitis to have a few real urinary tract infections in the past, then start to have symptoms with no infection in the urine. White blood cells in the urine don't necessarily mean infection and needs a workup if the cultures are negative. A urine culture is key rule in or rule out the infection. If there is no infection by the culture but you still have symptoms you may have IC.
Lemon and cranberry juice will help with urinary tract infections as a preventative in susceptible individuals but will not cure an active infection. Your dog's urine should really be checked for infection with a urinalysis.

You were on antibiotics, which should knock out infection, right? You could also have inflammation of the urinary tract which would result in white blood cells in urine, but bacterial UTI is the most common cause. Some women have Sterile pyuria which is persistent white blood cells in urine without any bacterial infection at all. That's not super common and usually having white blood cells means UTI or kidney issue. They will likely check you for these again.
I wonder if there is such a thing as a hypersensitive urinary tract? If so, I have it big time! Every time this is like this, it makes me feel bad all over. I guess when the prostate is irritated, being a gland, it can affect how you feel all over. I hope I can get over this. I am still drinking lots of water.

I have a question for those of you with urinary tract problems. I have had several UTIs and seem to be retaining urine. Also, my bladder and kidneys hurt. As many of you know, I do have Lupus. The question I have is should I be going to a urologist? I have talked to my GP about this and I have even mentioned being tested for Lupus Nephritis, but he just tells me that anytime he has checked my kidneys they have been fine.
As your symptoms suggest of burning sensation while passing urine, it is more commonly due to urinary tract infections and sexually transmitted diseases. Because kidney and ureter stones are accompanied by pain that goes upto the loin. There could also be changes in the stream of urine.
Is this the first time you are having this? Or previously suffered from same kind of symptoms? In any case it is advised to get a urine examination done and an ultrasound.
