Avatar n tn There seems to be a connection with Crohn's pain and oral contraceptives, so the same might hold true with estrogen replacement. http://www.crohns.org.uk/Docs/5/The%20oral%20contraceptive%20pill%20and%20Inflammatory%20Bowel%20Disease.
Avatar f tn Breakthrough bleeding(bleeding while taking the active pills of combined oral contraceptives, or other hormonal contraceptives),spotting and changes in menstrual flow are common side effects after starting the oral contraceptives and they are frequent while taking the triphasic contraceptive(orthotricyclen). Breakthrough bleeding is most common when a woman first begins taking oral contraceptives, or changes from one particular oral contraceptive to another.

Avatar f tn I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
Avatar f tn Madam, I got married in 2004 and was blessed with a girl child in April '05. On the advice of a gynaec doctor I started using oral contraceptives (Mala-D) from April '06 on the assurance of the doctor that they are 100% safe. Everything was normal. For the last 6 months I observed a gradual decrease in bleeding during periods. Atlast when 15th June '09 was my actual due date, I did not get my periods till month end.
Avatar n tn Most uncomplicated UTIs can be treated with oral antibiotics such as trimethoprim, cephalosporins, nitrofurantoin, or a fluoroquinolone (e.g., ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin). Trimethoprim is probably the most widely used antibiotic for UTIs and is usually taken for 7 days. It is often recommended that trimethoprim be taken at night to ensure maximal urinary concentrations and increase its effectiveness.
Avatar n tn When a woman is taking oral contraceptives and has to also take antibiotics (such as Cipro) that could decrease the effectiveness of the oral contraceptives, it is recommended that she use a back up method of contraception (i.e. a condom) during the entire time she is on the antibiotics and for 7 days after she stops taking the antibiotics. For more information, you may want to consult with a health care provider or a pharmacist." I would still advise you to check with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Hi - using oral contraceptives as been reviewed as a possible cause of GM, however there must be another causative factor, or existing disposition, along with a history of use of oral contraceptives, or millions of women (using oral contraceptives) would have GM; just as many arthritis conditions are caused by having some sort of genetic predisposition, so that when a person with that genetic makeup is exposed to for example, simple food borne organisms, it can trigger a reactive arthritis, whi
Avatar m tn It also says that the colony count of the bacteris is 1,00,000 cfu/ml. Hence, doctor prescribed some medicines like Uribid with nitrofurantoin in it, Prothiaden M, Montemac FX for allergy and Hifenac-P for fever and also Cital syrup for UTI. My mother continued the course for one week, now fever and tiredness have decreased, but the burning sensation continues. Is this mixture of tablets fine, or any other suggestion or recommendations for treating this urinary tract infection of K.Oxytoca.
Avatar f tn My husband and I are not currently trying to conceive. My question is in regards to the long-term effects of oral contraceptives on the menstrual cycle. Does anyone know if taking oral contraceptives (The Pill) can permanently change your menstrual cycle, even after you stop taking them? I used to always have really regular (28ish day long) cycles, but my last few have been almost a week longer than normal.
Avatar f tn I have the oral contraception.
Avatar n tn Overall, however, the risks of endometrial and ovarian cancer appear to be reduced with the use of oral contraceptives, - whereas the risks of breast, cervical, and liver cancer appear to be increased. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Last week, I was diagnosed with a UTI. I was prescribed 500mg of Cipro and I took it two times a day for five days. On my last day, I noticed that my vaginal discharge had changed colors. It was a very, very, very light brown (tan) color, but I didn't think much of it until it progressively got darker. (I've also had very slight vaginal itching, but it only happens a couple times a day.
Avatar n tn I would also wonder if you might have endometriosis. There are other options besides oral contraceptives. One really good option is the Mirena IUD. Sometimes taking anti-inflammatories such as Motrin or Aleve or Lysteda round the clock during your period can reduce flow as well. These are all NON-hormonal. One last tip--often oral contraceptives can actually improve your chances of having a child by protecting you from worsening endometriosis and/or hyperplasia of the uterine lining.

Avatar m tn 9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira). Both are known to decrease levels of haptoglobin but nothing about complete depletion. Could this be an extended effect from Nitrofurantoin? When should the test be repeated ?
Avatar f tn ve seen mulitple doctors and every test comes back normal. Could this be caused by oral contraceptives or from my daily use of two different anti-biotics to treat acne and vaginal strep B? I look like I'm pregnant and I'm uncomfortable all the time.
Avatar m tn A couple of weeks later I developed a urinary tract infection. Urologist prescribed nitrofurantoin for the infection. Immediatedly after starting the antibiotic my ears gradually starting feeling clogged. Now, two weeks later, they are both very clogged (no wax buildup) and I can barely hear. Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself?
Avatar f tn ok lng din po ba ang oral contraceptives? Godbless!!!
Avatar f tn Many oral contraceptives contain chemical compounds that are designed to simulate the effects of natural hormones in the body. By acting on the endocrine system, these compounds can drastically decrease a woman's chance of getting pregnant. Drospirenone is one example of these types of synthetic hormones. While Drospirenone is effective as a means of birth control, it has also been found to increase a woman's risk of blood clots, stroke, and associated cardiovascular problems.
Avatar f tn Hi, After MRI I have been told I have hemangioma on the liver and my doc advised me to stop taking oral contraceptives.
