Niaspan back pain

Common Questions and Answers about Niaspan back pain

niaspan

Avatar m tn I have already had one bad experience with another statin, Advicor, that resulted in me having permanent lymphedema in my ankles and legs. Now I am unsure about Niaspan. I would appreciate any comments on Niaspan please. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I am Ricky7023. I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you. Either the system or I screwed up. I couldn't get back in under Ricky7023 (forgot the password, couldn't get the system to send me another). The drug in question is Niaspan and the person saying the study couldn't have shown a link between the drug and cancer was a cariologist who wanted to proscribe the niaspan. I don't know that any of that matters, of course.
Avatar n tn LOL....I'm sorry, but you just brought back memories from the fist time I took Niaspan. I have been on 2000 (yes, 2 thousand) miligrams of that stuff every night for many many years now. Just imagine how bad my side effects are on that dosage! The first time I took it, I called the ER of a hospital, due to being so scared at how I felt.
Avatar n tn I assume you have a cholesterol issue. Why not ask your doctor for a prescription for a statin medicine? You can get the drug for $4.00 a month or less, and it's much less invasive than Niaspan, in my opinion. I tried Niaspan years ago, it wasn't effective, and I would get a huge 'blushing' feeling, my face would flush and I would be miserable. Statin drugs are very safe and in my opinion, very effective.
7052683 tn?1392938795 He was also on Niaspan and only gets the flushing. But he had to go down to every other day on Niaspan. So, you may have to do something like that. If you are on a very high dose of Niaspan then less common side effects can be fever, diarrhea, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, headache and rash. But my husband is on 500mg with no problem. I don't know what they consider a high dose. The Niaspan is only really for lowering your Triglycerides not the cholesterol.
Avatar m tn I recently got my blood tests back and am not sure if I have "Heart Disease" in the classical meaning of the phrase or just a bad reading or "Bad Numbers" which need to be addressed. Can someone please clarify this for me? First off, I'm a recently turned 60 year old man who used to be an athletic type during my younger years and over the years let it all go down the drain it seems.
Avatar m tn My TSH was over 200, ran it two more times, came back over 400 and over 900! ( I have never known if it was high for a long time, or if it was recent, as I never had any symptoms. Anyone care to shed some light on if my TSH number could have been this high for a long time? Just FYI.........I had not had my TSH checked for well over 10 years prior to this result.
Avatar m tn If you're gay or lesbian and had a heart attack at a young age plz reply. I'm scared and angry.
Avatar n tn My MD & I have been trying for about 5 years now to raise my HDL (I have family history w/father dying of heart attack at 48) .Niaspan only raised it nominally, & now he wants to try Crestor.....Are statins good for raising HDL?...If one can keep their LDL down low enough say under 80, is HDL still significant?....Except for HDL, my other numbers are good...I'm non-smoker, & ideal weight, & active.....
Avatar m tn I'm new here and want to find out what people think about the new research on Niaspan. I can't figure out how to filter my search results by date so that I just get recent results.
Avatar n tn He knows I eat healthy but that I have eliminated temporarily (for last 6 months) exercise due to scare associated possible lung cancer diagnosis (mentally I just do not want to work out - yet). He has recommended Niaspan (500). I can find zero information on the web about reducing CRP with any prescription drug. Do other doctors look to reduce CRP levels w/Niaspan - a drug designed to improve CHOL and Triglyceride levels?
Avatar n tn Well, it depends on what kind of medication you are on. I am taking Niaspan for cholestoral and these are the side effects of it. When your body have enough of these vitamins, it flushes out of body like this. It is advised by proffessionals to take an aspirin half an hour before taking Niaspan to avoid this flush. In my case, I simply stopped taking Niaspan and seek alternative from my doctor. It is always good to see doctor in such cases. I hope this is helpful to you.
Avatar m tn I take Niaspan which is an extended release form of niacin. Niaspan will decrease your LDL and triglycerides and increase your HDL. I would not change your niacin dose w/o talking to your doctor about it. Decreasing the dosage could decrease your HDL. I was taking 1500 mg of Niaspan at one point for about 7 months My HDL was around 42-44 for 3 measurements. It then drop to 32. My cardiologist immediately bumped my Nispan dosage to 2000 mg and my HDL went to 50 a year later.
Avatar n tn Currently I am on Tarka, Niaspan and Coumadin for HTN and atrial fibrillation. On 1/11, Sectral was added to my cardiac med profile to aid in arrythmia control. On 1/26 I started Lovenox prior to a colonoscopy. These are the only two meds changed, with all other meds longstanding. On 12/1 I had a complete metabolic profile drawn for a routine endocrinology follow up and LFTs then were ALT 17 and AST 18.
Avatar n tn I have been on 20 mg of simvastatin and 3000 mg niaspan now my ck levels have went from 60 to 295 i could hardly walk .will my levels come down if i lower dose. and reverse damage. i have 12 stents .the rest of my blood work is fine.
Avatar m tn My husband had a heart attack a few years ago. He died and the doctor brought him back. He had 90%blockage to the main atery. They inserted a stent. He takes Niaspan and Crestor every day. Could his heart disease be ischemic?
Avatar n tn why would hdl lower with weightloss and lowering cholesterol.... Is is easily brought back up? Note, I do not eat any fish or nuts..
Avatar n tn In an effort to increase my HDL, I take Niaspan & Zocor.....Recently my MD upped the Zocor from 5mgl. to 10mgl.... Last couple weeks, have had more trouble sleeping, usually waking up after a dream (not nightmares, but somewhat vivid dreams)...I've checked out few sites, & saw that statins can cause sleep problems....Have others here had sleep problems while taking a statin?........
Avatar n tn Metroprolol 25MG to control tachycardia, Lipitor 20MG, Niaspan 1000MG, Nexium 40MG, 81MG aspirin every three days because once a day caused petechia, Krill oil, Depakote 125MG and Klonopin .5MG at bedtime. Had calcium score done a few months ago and score went from 20 (two years ago) to 19 (now). I seem to be doing a good job except for the HDL. I have been doing some research and have read that Metroprolol can lower HDL.
Avatar f tn ) The ultrasound and hepatitis panel has come back ok. I am still waiting for additional results. I am 46, 185 lbs, I walk 30 minutes most days, but do not work out. Daily meds are Synthroid, Niaspan, Fortamet and Calcium. I suffer from migraines and was on Depakote and Aleve daily for two years probably 10 years ago. I changed jobs and the migraines are less and I no longer take a daily preventative.
Avatar m tn I recently (last two weeks) had a Berkley Heartlab panel done with findings of LDL 133 and LP(a) of 102. Also APOe genotype of 3/4. My MD advised Crestor and Niaspan. I took it upon myself to have an Ultrafast CT scan of the heart and the total score came back at 9.54, putting me in the lowest risk category. My question is why is it necessary to take the above meds for what sounds like the rest of my life, when the plaque buildup in my coronary arteries is so low after living 50 years?
Avatar f tn It goes away after about 20 minutes but really was strange..Told my doctor about it and she said its a side effect of Niaspan a cholesterol reducing drug. I hope this helps some of you.
Avatar m tn I have been taking 2000mg Niaspan daily for the last 18months, helping to raise it from 25 to 30. I run about 9miles a week, work out 3-4X at the gym each week, and drink a glass of red wine every night. I eat nuts every day, take Omega3, and rarely eat red meat - subscribing to a low cholesterol diet. Weight is 185 at 6'3", age 50. LDL is always pretty low - most recently 66.
Avatar m tn 05 (this is a strong cream) twice a day on affect body parts (some portion of hand, chest, legs and neck) I had a 20 minute OraQuick ADVANCE Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test, ORAL SWAB test done at 5 weeks after exposure and it came back negative. I just read in one of your posting that Crotison Injection delayed the antibody production. Is that the Case? also if i am regularly using the cream twice a day 45 days before exposure and still using it, does that mean my test results are not valid?????
Avatar n tn my good cholesterol is at only 25. after 6 months of perscription fish oil, now on niaspan. coreg, 80mg. lisinerpril, bumex, spirolactine, byetta, 10mg 2x a day, lantus, 60 units at night, crestor, tricor too. I can now walk 1 mile in 15 minutes, which i do everyday at work during lunchtime, i try keep to a very simple diet, as now they put me on reglan for diabetic stomach paralysis. i also take nexium for sever acid reflux. EF was at 28, they put in a pacemaker/ICD in my chest.
Avatar m tn I'm tired of taking all the meds following a heart attack back in Jan 08. I'm still taking Plavix 75 mg/day, but have stopped the following: Niaspan - 500mg/day Toporol XL - 12.5 mg/day Lipitor - 40 mg/day Asprin - 325 mg/day I'd like to quit on the Plavix too, but read it's probably not a good idea. I have a stent in my LAD. Read that lowering cholesterol to 112 is not such a good idea, as that may be too low. Is there any danger in stopping these?
Avatar m tn I am a 45 yr old male, 5ft 6 inches tall, 148 pounds, smoker for 25 years now quit after MI on 8/5/2010 most likely due to going off plavix .Family history of cardiac disease, father died at age 36 from stroke related to high blood pressure. My history before MI I received 6 stents due to blockage of 80% in 2 arteries, LAD i believe, in 2006.These were what is called kissing stents since they were placed back to back on both sides of the "widow maker".
608104 tn?1352587153 The cardiac tests recently have been ok. I think part of the chest pain is rib cage pain. I am now using an Auto-pap. My insurance company is paying rental fees and doctor visit fees because this equipment is not helping. I can't risk sleep apnea, but I want a decent night's sleep!
