niaspan

Avatar f tn But my best lipid results ( raising HDL, lowering LDL and Lp(a) ) came from taking RX Niacin which I take with the 10 mg Crestor and 325 mg aspirin at bedtime. No problems with Niacin either.I take RX fish oil also as I am in big time prevention mode due to cardiac microvascular dysfunction.Fortunately my lipids have never been bad and my larger coronaries are clear but the lipids are only a piece of the total cardiac picture and the possible side effects of meds far outweigh my other risks.
Avatar n tn However, there is also the risk of liver inflammation due to the medicine Crestor® (rosuvastatin) and it is conceivable that there could be an additive effect of Crestor® (rosuvastatin) and INH. In addition, niacin may increase the risk of muscle disease called myopathy when used with Crestor® (rosuvastatin). Crestor® (rosuvastatin) significantly increases the INR (enhances the effect of Coumadin to make your blood “thinner” than it would be alone.
Avatar n tn My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
Avatar n tn A couple years ago, they changed the Tricor to generic, but I was taking name brand Crestor. No problems when taking co-q10 with it. But, when they changed the crestor to generic also, THATS when the problems started and co-q10 didnt help at all. Its been so severe that some days I cant get out of bed. I cannot stop taking either due to hyperacute triglycedemia.
Avatar n tn Long time ago, cardiologist said no need to change when another MD suggested. (I think Crestor has big marketing push). Is there any advantage to Crestor given my figures?
Avatar n tn I am 69 yr old female. New symptoms of dizzy spells + hi systolic, low dystolic #. I do not take bp meds. Bp readings around 160/67 throughout the day with pulse in mid 60's. MD gave me "Vertiserc" (I live in Italy) for dizzy symptoms, but symptoms remain. Other RX p/day= Levothyroxin- 88 mg, Simvastatin-20mg, naprosyn 220mg p/day. Family hx of diabetes, Parkinson, hypothryroid, pancreatic ca.
Avatar m tn t have enough self control to lose any weight. I had muscle pain and memory loss with statins, flushing and finally facial swelling with niacin supplements. The memory loss was so bad, I sold my veterinary practice and retired BEFORE the lawsuit. I ran for exercise until I wore out my left knee, now I walk. Again, these labs are before any medication.
Avatar n tn It has also been studied for slowing dementia, and reducing angina, symptoms associated with heart failure and other symptoms associated with heart -related illnesses. I recommend Coen Q10 to all patients with cardiac disease regardless of the presence of myopathy, because I have seen significant benefit in my practice patients. The safety profile is very good.
Avatar n tn HDL can only be readily raised by losing weight, controling diabetes or prediabetes, or by taking niacin. Avoiding execessive carbohydrates even in people with normal glucose control may be helpful as well. How much fish oil can I safely take? Look at the AHA website. They give recommendations as to intake of fish oil. The amount is gaged by adding the mgs of EPA + DHA. Niacin........how much can I safely take of that without having to get liver test done by my doctor so often.
Avatar n tn Hi I'm a 24 male,I have eleveated CPK levels,I go to the gym & excersize 5 days a week,my first blood test was 950,a week later I did another blood check after the doctor told me to stop excersizing 2 days before test & it went down to 250,I did my third blood test 6 weeks later & it was 717 although the doctor had recomended me to cut down the excersizing time by half to an hour, does High CPK levels affect on kidney function, cause stones & back kidney pains occasionally?
Avatar n tn Pronounced Qs *WITH* inverted Ts is usually a sign of a previous infarct. ST depression points to ischemia. EKGs aren't the final word in diagnosing the issue. It would be cause to order further esclation of tests to confirm, which you had and which did not confirm MI. The next escalation from here if those test were inconclusive would be angiogram, cardiac CT, and/or a cardiac MRI with 3D turbo/contrast. Your level 2 tests did not indicate a need to escalate.
Avatar n tn Lori, all the cholesterol meds work in slightly different fashions, so you may want to consider talking to your doc about trying a different brand like Crestor, or? You could also discuss the use of red yeast rice, if your doc is a functional medicine doc, or perhaps think about trying the niacin-based meds. Cholesterol meds can cause muscle weakness and pain. No matter what you're on in the future, make sure the doc checks your enzyme levels regularly.
Avatar f tn Metamucil powder and similar types of drink cases mixed with turipid flowers' nonpoisonus roots will help.
Avatar n tn I recently had an Exercise nuclear myocardial perfusion study (SPECT). Findings: "severe profusion defect at basal to mid inferior wall with larger deficit at resting images (reverse distribution), consistent with attenuation artifact. Cannot rule out MI at basal inferior wall. Wall motion analysis reveals: Normal wall motion of all myocardial segments." My cardiologist left a message that "everything is fine". The findings sound rather ominous to me. What do you think?
Avatar f tn My husband has had hep c since 1980 and recently his good cholesterol numbers were so low they put him on crestor which greatly worries me because it is so toxic to the liver. I have been doing some studying up and have learned that niacin/vitamin b3 can raise your good numbers by up to 35%. Im going to buy some supplements for him to see if we cant get him off the crestor, right now he is also taking omega 3 fish oil, but that hasnt helped the numbers much.
Avatar n tn Could my shortness of breath. weakness and aching be cause by Crestor? I have seen a pulmonary doctor and a cardiologist. They say my heart and lungs are fine.
Avatar n tn in Cardiosource. The article does state that Niacin combined with statins has even a greater effect on HDL than statins alone. Just an FYI........
Avatar n tn I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs. Has anyone experienced difficulties with this? Any thoughts?
1189223 tn?1264553189 ll still offer it. Have you tried aggressive statin therapy? Large doses of Crestor and Niacin have been clinically proven to reverse stenosis, but this assumes you've eliminated other lifestyle risk factors (I'm sure you know that list well). One of the risk factor I know you have is the apnea. if you haven't already, please give a cpap a try.
475570 tn?1280941363 I just want to add that this was a study of Niaspan - the time release version of Niacin - and not Niacin.
718651 tn?1237042917 I was thinking today of if taking niacin would make the opiate come out of your system faster... i've heard of people taking higher doses to get drugs out of their system to pass a UA.. has anyone tried this?? or do you think it will work??
Avatar f tn Lipitor (atorvastatin), Lescol (fluvastatin), Mevacor (lovastatin), Altoprev (lovastatin extended-release), Livalo (pitavastatin), Pravachol (pravastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin), and Zocor (simvastatin). Combination products include: Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
