718651 tn?1237042917 I was thinking today of if taking niacin would make the opiate come out of your system faster... i've heard of people taking higher doses to get drugs out of their system to pass a UA.. has anyone tried this?? or do you think it will work??

Tbd What is the purpose of the niacin and should a niacin supplement be administered if the medication does not contain niacin?
Avatar m tn Also consumed 3 grams/day of omega 3 supplements and was on a relatively low carb diet during this period. Pretty sure the sustained release Niacin may be culprit but anyone familiar with anything else that would raise these three enzymes as noted above. I have stopped the Slo Niacin. What's a reasonable time to recheck blood after getting off the Niacin....a month? Also, note that BUN/Creatine just slightly high and ALP, Bilirubin, A/G,Albumin, etc liver markers were all normal.
Avatar n tn There is only one interaction that would be of any concern. Treatment with both simvastatin and niacin may result in muscle pain or tenderness or muscle weakness. Using simvastatin together with niacin is usually not recommended, but may be required in some cases. If you are using both medicines together, your doctor may change the dose or how often you use one or both of the medicines. It is important to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all other medicines that you are using.
Avatar n tn The powder in those capsules are VERY bitter, so applesauce might not cover the taste very well. Check with your pharmacist and/or read the info that came with the medication to make sure you can even do this.
Avatar m tn niacin vitamin, the type with slow release, also double check online there is a type of niacin which doesn t work i dont remember the name (its the one without red skin effect) liposomal gsh from livonlabs fish oil, epa+dha 2g minimum daily vit d3 5000iu or higher according to your blood levels
Avatar f tn So, make sure you run everything by your doctor and come up with a mutually agreed upon plan. Niacin HAS been used to lower triglycerides and raise HDL (good) cholesterol. Improving these two aid in overall improvement in total cholesterol numbers. But niacin can have real draw backs too. You MUST talk to your doctor before starting a niacin supplement in my opinion. And if you are on a cholesterol lowering medication already, it may have no effect at all.
Avatar f tn I was told from friends that Niacin helps as well as fish oil. So, over the past 8 mths I took Niacin and fish oil and my new blood draw cam up with a perfect score in the cholesterol area but my Bilirubin total was elevated at 1.4, Iron UIBC low at 102, Iron serum high at 175 as well as Iron Saturation at 63, and my biggest concern was my TSH high at 5.08. I do not have any symptoms. I just received the second blood draw for a possible job in Antarctica.
Avatar n tn I could not find anyone else who had had a mania symptoms with niacin. However, it was clearly what I was having. My daughter was hospitalized with mania on Wed. (2 days ago) and I am starting to wonder if her situation was aggravated by the 500 mg of niacin she has been taking over the last 2 weeks or helped. She is now on Olanzapine (50 mg) at bedtime until she gets a consult with an outpatient urgent care. DOES NIACIN CAUSE MANIA?
Avatar n tn Timed-release niacin is commonly prescribed to prevent arterioschlerosis. It acts as a mild vasodilator, relaxing the blood vessels and improving the microcirculation. The "fast-acting" niacin causing flushing of the face and sometimes itching. There should be no problems whatsoever with discontinuing niacin "cold-turkey" , nor should there be any withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar m tn From what I have read, as far as niacin goes, only high-dose niacin (such as prescription Niaspan) will have an effect on HDL and you must be monitored with blood tests to make sure there is no ensuing liver damage. Good luck... I have the HDL same problem.
1063764 tn?1272821064 Hello, I have been taking 20 mgs of fluoxetine now since the summer. I was watching a documentary and heard about a case where a woman was put on niacin supplements for depression. She was taking very large dosages, but it completely pulled her out of her depression. So far fluoxetine has helped me, but I think in time I will need a larger dosage. I would really rather not do that, so my question is: is it safe to take niacin supplements of 100 mg daily plus an extra multivitamin with 20mg.
414508 tn?1222627690 Magnesium, 50mg niacin, and 1 5-htp. also cheked with nutritionist who confirmed safe, but again i think tooooo much niacin for me, trying to find out should i not take at all, or cut down??? is it really necessary. i'm first time writer, long time watcher of this site thanks for writing so quick, this kept me from taking my a.m. dose earlier than scheduled.
Avatar n tn t know what other medications you are on, but you should check with your pharmacist and make sure that they are compatible with the niacin. You should contact your doctor and let him/her know about your reaction to the drug. You and he/she can decide together whether it is best to stop the niacin, or continue. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I take Niacin twice a day as recommended by my physician a long with a vitamin B - 100 complex tablet and my Tinnitus is lower in tone.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a blood draw in April of 2009 and all of my numbers were perfect accept for my cholesterol was a little high. I was told from friends that Niacin helps as well as fish oil. Avatar m tn valve replacement 2001, redid bypasses. I was on 40mg Lipitor and 500mg no-flush niacin for a number of years with moderate sucess. I subscribe to the Cleveland Clinic Heart Newsletter. In the July 2007 issue there was suggestion that 1,500mg niacin was a good statin supplement. Starting in July 2007 I followed this suggestion, taking 1,500mg slow-release niacin with the Lipitor. I have biannual blood tests.
