I was thinking today of if taking niacin would make the opiate come out of your system faster... i've heard of people taking higher doses to get drugs out of their system to pass a UA.. has anyone tried this?? or do you think it will work??

I just want to add that this was a study of Niaspan - the time release version of Niacin - and not Niacin.

What is the purpose of the niacin and should a niacin supplement be administered if the medication does not contain niacin?

Hello, I have recently heard that Niacin is good for lowering cholesterol. Anyone have any experience with this?

How much Niacin were you taking daily? Was your physician aware you were going to take the Niacin to lower your cholesterol? Were you taking any other medications at the same time?

I am bipolar and have taken niacin for years....I took 500mg of niacin the reagular kind not the no flush kind It did cause me to have a niacin flush (which is typical)...it has never caused me trouble with mainia only made me flush wich eased anxiety and caused me to be tired afterwards...It might affect others diffently though. Nician is a B vitamin and B vitmins can cause you to more energetic you shouldn't take them in excess esp if you have bipolar....

I am a 32 year old female that took 3 Niacin supplement pills in 1996. I was told that they would de-toxify my body, and is very healthy for me. I took the pills before bed one night, and was lying there feeling an intense burning all over my body, my esophagus was on fire, I stood up unable to breathe, and gasped for air, feeling light headed, I went to the landing on our staircase trying to get downstairs, that was the last thing I remember.

I was watching a documentary and heard about a case where a woman was put on niacin supplements for depression. She was taking very large dosages, but it completely pulled her out of her depression. So far fluoxetine has helped me, but I think in time I will need a larger dosage. I would really rather not do that, so my question is: is it safe to take niacin supplements of 100 mg daily plus an extra multivitamin with 20mg. I don't want to end up taking too many vitamins.

I want to take benadryl to orevent a niacin flush, but im worried the niacin wont work.

m in my early twenties and workout, a couple months ago I took a vasodilator supplement which later I found contained nicotinic acid(essentially niacin I think) in a high dose. I felt what it's called a niacin flush, tingling and warm feeling all over.. I did my workout and after went to take a shower, that's when I noticed a big red patch in my left foot and two small ones on my right foot.

He told me that there were nitrates showing up in my urine but no other sign of infection and sent me to the hospital to get another urinalysis. No one has called me with any results yet. What could be causing nitrates in my urine aside from a UTI???

I had a urinalysis done to see if i had any infection. i went to urologist twice and he did the same test again. Both urine samples were clear. I had an ultrasound done that determined i have varicocele in my left side. But 2days now i felt some slight burnin sensation in my like inside my urethra just a lil quick burn for like a second it goes away this has happens like 3 times a day.i do not have any problem with urinating.

If I was infected with Chlamydia bacteria, would there have been abnormalities/growth/high WBC in a routine urine culture/analysis? I understand that specific STIs are not tested for in a urinalysis - just wondering if something would have shown up. Thanks.

I got my urinalysis test results back. Everything looked normal except Appearance-cloudy, Squamous epithlial Cells - 6-10 (marked as H), WBC 10-20 (marked as H), and Bacteria-Moderate (26-50) marked also H. My doctor never called me, even though she had received my test results. Should I follow up with another doctor? How bad are these numbers?

m currently undergoing this (my urine is dark but I have no liver or kidney pain which is scary) and have to get a ct scan as my urinalysis also suggest that everything is normal. So they don't know what's causing the bleeding. I'll pray for us both. Let me know how it goes.
