Avatar n tn Vitamin B6 recommended dose for Adult male is 1.3mg a day (upper limit 100mg), and Niacin 16 mg a day (upper limit 35mg). You stated that you were having muscle problems, are you eating enough potassium foods (oranges, orange juice, potatoes, bananas, etc)? Suggest you see your MD if the muscle issues continue. Avatar n tn From everything I've read, whether you have Hep C or not if you take more than the daily upper limit required it can damage your liver. If you're thinking of taking a Super B Complex supplement make sure you check out the amount of B3 it contains. If you eat a healthy diet with a lot of veggies than you really don't need a B3 supplement. As you would know always check with your specialist first before taking any supplements.
Avatar m tn Niacin Hepatotoxicity Niacin in doses above 500 mg daily causes transient, asymptomatic elevations in serum aminotransferase levels in up to 20% of people. The elevations are rarely greater than 3 times the upper limit of the normal range and usually resolve spontaneously even with continuation of the drug. The effect is partially dose related and is more common with doses above 3 g/day.

519736 tn?1253986826 Prior to this he was advised to use Slo Niacin. When he began the lipitor, his dr. did not tell him to stop taking the Slo Niacin. He has been taking them together daily. Last week he experienced more frequent, loose bowels, but did not feel "sick"..This went away and he started to have muscle pain in the chest and upper back and his legs..that began 3 days ago. The muscle pain is preventing him from getting any sleep. he has missed the last 2 days of work.
Avatar f tn One after each meal and when you start going diahrea just cut back down to 2 or 1 tablet per day. Next add Niacin and fish pills and WALK because walking, niacin, and magnesium have cured my Proctitis. And Proctitis is the same as Chrons in the rectal area.. Magnesium and Niacin are like wonder drugs when it comes to IBD. Just give them 6 months and a year to really start enjoying life again. Check this from Merck on Niacin DEFICIENCY and GI tract in Chrons and UC I guess.....
Avatar n tn m in my early twenties and workout, a couple months ago I took a vasodilator supplement which later I found contained nicotinic acid(essentially niacin I think) in a high dose. I felt what it's called a niacin flush, tingling and warm feeling all over.. I did my workout and after went to take a shower, that's when I noticed a big red patch in my left foot and two small ones on my right foot.
802198 tn?1237831666 s all over, but at this moment, it is around my upper shoulder region on my backside and also partly on my arms as well. I had this just recently too and it was a bit worse. The last time I had this, was years ago (2004) and it REALLY felt like it was on fire then! I was wondering, could this be due to my nerves being on edge?
Avatar m tn For a good multi-vitamin, I consider the minimum to be at least 25 milligrams of each of the main Bs (B-1, B-2, B-6, e.g.). I also consider more to be better as far as the water-soluble vitamins go (the Bs, vitamin C, and some others are water-soluble, while A, D, E, and K are fat soluble). 'Bear in mind that the RDI (recommended daily intake), DV (daily value), or whatever, is calculated to be the dose that keeps you from overtly DYING of a nutrient deficiency.
Avatar f tn I love eating bananas, apples and grapes, but I read on some websites that one needs to limit your fruit intake. But other sources say to eat as much whole fruit as possible. So I'm truly torn on what to do. I would ask my doctor, but he'll just go back on the whole meds topic, which I truly want to avoid. So any insight from anyone with a similar experience is truly appreciated. thx.
Avatar f tn The first looked at the skin and said, “ooh, nasty”. Never went back. The second sold me a niacin cream and told me to use 10% benzoyl peroxide in the shower. When I was younger, the pores/follicles would get so infected they would become boils and carbuncles. I easily get ingrown hairs, despite exfoliating, and now blackheads are starting to develop lower on my thighs. I’ve not had a diagnosis, but I think it’s a version of HS. Any ideas?
1135275 tn?1586565652 Daily doses over 50 mg per day have been associated with flushing of the skin, including reddening, burning, tingling, itching and pain. Starting with a lower dose and then gradually increasing it as may taking the supplement with food. Slow-release niacin and products made from nicotinamide (or niacinamide) and inositol hexanicotinate are also less likely to cause this reaction. at doses over 1,500 mg (1.
Avatar n tn need help. i have been on vytorin for 4 years and on routine blood tests, my cpk has been in the 500-700 range for all 4 years (2 blood draws a year). I am asymptomatic. This past Jan, i added "flush free niacin" to my morning meds/supplements, and in July i noted my cpk was 1000. Still asymptomatic. In the past, I stopped working out for a couple of weeks and stopped statins for 2 weeks, and when rechecked, the CPK's were still in the 700 range.
718651 tn?1237042917 I was thinking today of if taking niacin would make the opiate come out of your system faster... i've heard of people taking higher doses to get drugs out of their system to pass a UA.. has anyone tried this?? or do you think it will work??
475570 tn?1280941363 I just want to add that this was a study of Niaspan - the time release version of Niacin - and not Niacin.
Avatar f tn Are you taking any medications, either prescription or OTC that contain niacin? Niacin can cause flushing which happens when our blood vessels expand (which niacin is used for) and the blood rises closer to our skin which can cause really intense sensations of heat, extreme itching and a deep red "flush" of color to our skin which is usually limited to the upper portion of our bodies...........chest, neck, arms and head. I'm afraid that pretty much sums up my guesses.
Tbd What is the purpose of the niacin and should a niacin supplement be administered if the medication does not contain niacin?
Avatar m tn By contrast, slow-release niacin preparations reduce the hot-flush effect by releasing niacin over an extended period of 12 hours or longer. Most of these preparations are unsafe and I do not recommend them. “No-flush” niacin preparations, such as inositol hexaniacinate and nicotinamide, are widely sold as niacin alternatives that do not cause hot flushes. In my experience, however, they simply do not work. In other words, no flush, no effect.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have recently heard that Niacin is good for lowering cholesterol. Anyone have any experience with this?
Avatar f tn How much Niacin were you taking daily? Was your physician aware you were going to take the Niacin to lower your cholesterol? Were you taking any other medications at the same time?
Avatar n tn I am bipolar and have taken niacin for years....I took 500mg of niacin the reagular kind not the no flush kind It did cause me to have a niacin flush (which is typical)...it has never caused me trouble with mainia only made me flush wich eased anxiety and caused me to be tired afterwards...It might affect others diffently though.
