1495437 tn?1288798915 Hey, so Actually... I would recommend niacin to make them go away. Lol, sorry, reallly touchy subject. But it sounds like you took way too much the first time, If you take doses of 100mg and slowly build your way up you should be fine, I don't know who you got it from the first time, but It really doesn't sound like there was a lot of research done before.
Avatar n tn I will check the ingred in the protein shake but this rash and reaction was not the same as the time I had the niacin "flush". I did go to the dermatologist and they suggested it was a piece of jewelry since it is localized to my neck and chest. They gave me a prescription for cortisone cream and it seems to be helping to lessen the redness and itching.
Avatar m tn Such Kava skin reactions are believed to be that of depleted Niacin. Reside from Kava for 1-month and supplement With Niacin of the Skin Flushing Type & not The Niacin of the NON-Skin-Flushing type for 1 month.
Avatar f tn Are you taking any medications, either prescription or OTC that contain niacin? Niacin can cause flushing which happens when our blood vessels expand (which niacin is used for) and the blood rises closer to our skin which can cause really intense sensations of heat, extreme itching and a deep red "flush" of color to our skin which is usually limited to the upper portion of our bodies...........chest, neck, arms and head. I'm afraid that pretty much sums up my guesses.

718651 tn?1237042917 I was thinking today of if taking niacin would make the opiate come out of your system faster... i've heard of people taking higher doses to get drugs out of their system to pass a UA.. has anyone tried this?? or do you think it will work??
1323747 tn?1364806882 I have tried lowering the aspirin to 162 mg. and am still noting bruising and now am getting a rash from the niacin. Seems like a catch 22.
Avatar f tn Hiya Kxsx, To answer your question about whether it's caused by treatment, here's an archived thread with a quote from jmjm, who researched skin problems a lot: "Just to add a little, many of the skin disorders, especially immune-related conditions like psoriasis are caused/flared by the interferon not the ribavirin. That doesn't mean "riba"rash doesn't exist, but it does mean not every rash is caused by the riba.
Avatar f tn I had a problem for the duration of the summer with my hands itching every night after I got still and wasn't busy. Sometimes it even woke me up in the middle of the night, they would itch so badly. The only relief was to take two benadryl just so it would knock me out so I could sleep. The problem went away for about a month, but started again this week. There is no rash and it isn't dry skin, I put lotion on constantly.
Avatar n tn Niacin is a B vitamin and is used in reducing cholesterol. A common side effect of Niacin is flushing. The flushing makes your skin red in color and sometimes warm to the touch. Sometimes, taking an aspirin before taking the niacin can prevent the flushing. Don't do this without discussing it with your doctor. Drinking hot drinks or alcohol can also increase the flushing, so it is best to avoid these when taking the niacin. Also, niacin should not be taken with certain drugs.

Avatar n tn I feel fatigued and my skin feels uncomfortable. Could the Niacin I took still be causing this or did the Niacin trigger something in my body? I was never allergic to shellfish in the past. What else could be at work here?
Avatar m tn My symptoms started a few days after I started taking a new multivitamin that has 5 times as much of the daily requirement of Niacin (B3). When I googled the symptoms of Niacin overdose, low and behold, I had three of the five.......itchy, dizziness, constipation. I am thrilled to be able to get a full night's sleep again. I decided to post my experience in hopes that it may help someone else.
736575 tn?1288902558 She is complaining of a burning sensation in her skin...all over her body. Has anyone had this problem or know of anyone who has? She thinks it is the triglyceride medication because it started about 2 days after she started taking it.
Avatar f tn My little guy who is a superslim biracial child (white/African-American) has developed a dark patch of skin on the front of his neck. It looks a bit scaley in appearrance. It does not hurt or itch he says. In trying to find some info on what it might be, I ran across Acanthosis Nigricans, but it says it mostly occurs in overweight and obese children. Is this something I should be concerned about? I'm a little worried about the risk for type 2 diabetes if that is what this indicates.
802198 tn?1237831666 http://www.healthline.com/health/burning- also, if you're taking a Niacin supplement, too much will cause your skin to feel like it's on fire.
Avatar n tn This triggering factor should be identified and should be avoided. A skin allergy test can be useful. Treatment includes anti histaminic and glucocorticoids against prescription. I suggest you to consult a physician tomorrow. Take care and regards. Hope you are satisfied. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn the rash on her face increased and pain worsened ( clear fluid began leaking out of the nose and it burns the skin. RSD was diagnosed she then began vomiting all day and her skin peels off leaving large scars. she gets rashes that look like small purple bug bites.she struggles to get a satisfying breath and has extreme joint pain and stiffness... we have ruled out lupus and ms and endocrine does not believe any of the symptoms come from the hashimotos nor do they believe it comes from the rsd.
475570 tn?1280941363 I just want to add that this was a study of Niaspan - the time release version of Niacin - and not Niacin.
