Niacin maximum dose

Common Questions and Answers about Niacin maximum dose

niaspan

Avatar m tn Currently use vitamin D, 2 tbs cocoa in my morning coffee and take cayenne and cinnamon supplements at the maximum recommended dose. The April 22 numbers were ldl 43, Tri 32, HDL 64!! This compares with 66, 67, and 43 respectively in December. Still on the niacin and fish oil in high doses...liver is fine. The vitamin D and cocoa seem to be the most likely cause of the 50% jump in HDL.
Avatar m tn Significant hepatotoxicity is particularly common with high doses of sustained release niacin. In many cases, the injury becomes apparent after a dose increase or after switching from the regular crystalline to a sustained release form. The pattern is primarily hepatocellular, although cases with a cholestatic pattern have been described. The patients present with jaundice, itching, nausea, vomiting and fatigue.
Avatar n tn My son has been "addicted" to high doses of niacin for years. Dependent on the dose, he gets Irritable, angry, aggressive , manic and finally psychotic if taking enough of it. B6 makes him relaxed then manic in a eery relaxed way. B vitamins affect me by making me very irritable.
718651 tn?1237042917 I was thinking today of if taking niacin would make the opiate come out of your system faster... i've heard of people taking higher doses to get drugs out of their system to pass a UA.. has anyone tried this?? or do you think it will work??
Avatar f tn I want to take benadryl to orevent a niacin flush, but im worried the niacin wont work.
1495437 tn?1288798915 Hey, so Actually... I would recommend niacin to make them go away. Lol, sorry, reallly touchy subject. But it sounds like you took way too much the first time, If you take doses of 100mg and slowly build your way up you should be fine, I don't know who you got it from the first time, but It really doesn't sound like there was a lot of research done before.
Avatar n tn com/viewarticle/458867_4 Regarding the issue of niacin lowering the cholesterol levels, Niacin or nicotinic acid lowers low density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels while raising the high density lipoprotein cholesterol levels(good cholesterol). But this medication is not recommended to be taken by your own because you may miss some important side effects. Side effects include flushing, stomach upset, vomitings, headache, dizziness, liver damage in some cases.
Avatar n tn Your LDL is fine, however you have a very low HDL (good cholesterol) that should be dealt with as it should be over 50 for a woman, 40 for a man. There are many options to raise HDL, Niacin being one of the best. In addition, HDL responds very quickly to exercise, a minimum of 30 mins most days of the week of a good aerobic work out, trying to keep your heart rate at 70% plus of your maximum heart rate.
Avatar m tn 3 oz, 7.8 mg Daily Value: 49% Just under 50 percent of the day’s niacin in a three-ounce serving. Tuna Packed in Water, Niacin Content: 3 oz, 8.6 mg Daily Value: 54% Canned tuna is the best source of niacin, and it’s packed with docosahexaenoic acid, a type of omega-3 that stunts the growth of belly fat cell. Canned chunk tuna is considered a “low mercury fish” enjoy two to three times a week, according to the FDA’s most recent guidelines. I don't trust the FDA!
Avatar f tn I am a 28 year old schizophrenic that has responded very well to a high dose of Niacin (about 2.5g per day). I am currently on 5mg/day of olanzapine as well. I first tried the alternative during a time of great distress (I was losing touch with reality, had a very active mind and consistantly could not sleep). The first thing I noticed was a hot flush that worried me (I injested a high initial dose not aware of the flushing side effect), but I then became quite sleepy and went to bed at once.
Avatar f tn I've read conflicting articles saying that niacin is necessary for thyroid function and then some that say it can lower thyroid levels and cause liver damage. I've seen it in some iron supplements and wondered if I needed to stay away from it or if it would be good to take.
574118 tn?1305135284 does this question sound logical. It is assumed that vitamin B lessens anxiety, but when I take it I found myself more energetic and HIGH. Is there a possibility of mania my first ennemy. Usually all sold vitamin B in the market is the triad : B1, B6, B12 and sometimes folic acid. my question is there a possibility of mania or psychosis or at least irritability. What is the maximum safest dose of it, does the FDA addressed that.
Avatar m tn t have enough self control to lose any weight. I had muscle pain and memory loss with statins, flushing and finally facial swelling with niacin supplements. The memory loss was so bad, I sold my veterinary practice and retired BEFORE the lawsuit. I ran for exercise until I wore out my left knee, now I walk. Again, these labs are before any medication.
Avatar m tn That could definitely drop you from being in the high-risk category into being in the normal or slightly elevated category. That’s a big dose of niacin. As many people know, that high of a dose of niacin can cause flushing. So it’s probably a good idea to do that under some kind of medical supervision. Steve Wright: Yeah. And if you haven’t flushed before, you’ll want somebody there. Chris Kresser: You’ll not like it. Yeah, you will want somebody there.
537843 tn?1213664232 So your TSH was maybe 70 or 80 before you started taking Levoxyl. Were you started on a high dose? How long have you been taking 200mcg? I have been there. I have had my TSH drop 40 points in a week after getting on the right dose of meds. But I went from post RAI no meds straight to 100mcg, which is what my body wanted. Within six weeks my TSH was between 1.0 and 2.0. That's why I said you may need a dosage increase.
Avatar n tn He should try Omega 3 fish oil, I think 2 to 4 grams a day is the recommended dose to raise the HDL (good cholesterol levels) and to lower the Triglicerides, assuming they are high. We all have reasons why we do or do not take certain medications, and I respect that. However, I'll just mention that I had a cholesterol level about where his is, and I was trying to lower it with a strict diet and 'natural' stuff from the health food department.
Avatar n tn My husband is only 38, he had a stroke last year he had a stent put in, now he is on plavix, atenolol, hydrochlorothiazide 25mg, last week his doc added niacin 500 mg, simvastatin 20, flexeril and tramadol, also his one aspirin each day, these are just so many meds, are they safe?
Avatar n tn m in my early twenties and workout, a couple months ago I took a vasodilator supplement which later I found contained nicotinic acid(essentially niacin I think) in a high dose. I felt what it's called a niacin flush, tingling and warm feeling all over.. I did my workout and after went to take a shower, that's when I noticed a big red patch in my left foot and two small ones on my right foot.
1323747 tn?1364806882 when he put me on the niacin. I have been on that dose for five months before getting the Armour. The increased bruising started with the Armour dosing. I have since lowered the aspirin to two baby aspirin. I doubt I can go below that as 1500 mg of niacin is a high dose to take with nothing to take to counteract the tendency to have a rash. My vitamen D is low. I do not see a check for iron but I do see that the RBC and Hgb are both high normal which I think would imply the iron is ok.
Avatar n tn I can't sleep was prescribed melatonin what is the maximum dosage I can take I am 16. 8 stone 12 about 5'10.
Avatar m tn I have been taking a B Complex, 100 mg everyday for the past 2 months. The Niacin I take is 400 mg so that is a 500 mg/day dose. Yesterday I bumped up to 400 mg in the AM and 400 at night. There is definely an improvement that I feel. i am not 100% yet but I feel better than I did a week ago.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry, I missed the Hashi's dx - my mistake. I don't see anything that indicates you had a thyroid ultra sound? Please don't tell me I missed that too, in spite of going back and reading again...........LOL It's possible that you have nodules that are leaking hormone independently of the thyroid gland itself. This can swing you from hypo to hyper very quickly.
