Avatar n tn (I know it sounds strange, but many people are realizing the health benefits of yoga poses, especially those where the heart is positioned higher than the head.) One site I read said that surgery to cut a certain tendon near the ear was the way to relieve the fluttering, but this sounds pretty extreme. I'm going to try the natural route. Good luck to you!

Avatar n tn My son recently lost his job, health benefits, 401k when his company declared bankruptcy in March, 2008. During the process of applying for a job, his blood screening revealed an ALT result of 240. Norm appears to be between 5 - 40. The first thing he did was to have a Hepatitus C test, which was negative. As an airline pilot, he avoided alcohol, since he never knew when he might be tested, so alcohol is definitely not the problem.

Avatar m tn When I started taking the natural supplements for my cholesterol and LDL I had great results in my labs, but then I started with the swelling, chapped lips and dry mouth. This took about 3 or 4 months to occur. I stopped all supplements, the swelling went away. After a few weeks I started the supplements again, only adding a new one every week or so. Eventually the swelling came back. Again I stopped all suppements.

Avatar n tn com/viewarticle/458867_4 Regarding the issue of niacin lowering the cholesterol levels, Niacin or nicotinic acid lowers low density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglyceride levels while raising the high density lipoprotein cholesterol levels(good cholesterol). But this medication is not recommended to be taken by your own because you may miss some important side effects. Side effects include flushing, stomach upset, vomitings, headache, dizziness, liver damage in some cases.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have recently heard that Niacin is good for lowering cholesterol. Anyone have any experience with this?
Avatar m tn One concern with cholesterol lowering drugs is that high cholesterol is a symptom of bad health. Lowering cholesterol artificially, without improving the health, might not have a lot of .... benefit for the health.
Avatar f tn But my best lipid results ( raising HDL, lowering LDL and Lp(a) ) came from taking RX Niacin which I take with the 10 mg Crestor and 325 mg aspirin at bedtime. No problems with Niacin either.I take RX fish oil also as I am in big time prevention mode due to cardiac microvascular dysfunction.Fortunately my lipids have never been bad and my larger coronaries are clear but the lipids are only a piece of the total cardiac picture and the possible side effects of meds far outweigh my other risks.
Avatar f tn And my last heart doctor put me on Niacin, and it had NO effect, so he told me to double the amount of Niacin I was taking, and it still had ZERO effect. I'd be interested in seeing where someone would come up with a 20% increase figure, cause it simple is NOT proven. And Niacin can be very dangerous if to much is taken. If people recommend something, they should tell us their person experiences with what they are recommending and how it effected their HDL.
5142668 tn?1364230745 Note: LGlutamine and GABA are contraindicated in Bipolar and must consult with your doctor if you have kidney or liver issues. Glutamine is a precursor of GABA so taking both together may cause excessive GABA levels . The symptoms are numerous: Increased breathing (too much lactic acid production and incorrect gas ratios) Tingly sensations, facial numbness , nausea and vomiting, increased blood pressure etc Best is to have your doctor test you (urine or saliva test) for low GABA.
Avatar m tn Having Chromium and Niacin listed as separate ingredients would not be the same as Chromium Picolinate. Separately, (Niacin would be niacin and Chromium would be Chromium plus one of the chelators). It can get very confusing, but with all of that said, per the National Institute of Health "...given the limited data on chromium absorption in humans, it is not clear which forms are best to take.
Avatar f tn I don't know the full answer to your question, but I do know there is supposed to be a food grade form. The kind you find in nurseries or in pet stores is the wrong grade. One pet store where I live sells it for people who have hens and it's meant to be for their dust baths. The plant nurseries sell it for insect control, and it works great for killing pests like fleas in the home. I do know there is a food grade form, but as far as how safe it is for health benefits, I'm unsure.
Avatar m tn People all over the world - particularly in Russia, China, and Korea - have been enjoying the health benefits of raw eggs for thousands of years.

387294 tn?1207620185 My son and daughter may be looking for health insurance after they leave college and are no longer dependents. My daughter has been diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic heart valve. She has a healthy heart and it is working well. With this impact her chances to get health insurance on her own? Will it impact our ability to continue her insurance after the cobra period is over on our insurance?
