691724 tn?1230682644 My husband uses those little bottles of 5-HOUR ENERGY drinks. I read the label and it has extremely high amounts of Niacin and B12. I know certain vitamins are stored in the body while others aren't. Are these B vitamin doses safe on a regular basis? Also what happens to the body when high doses of B vitamins are ingested like this?

Avatar n tn it has never caused me trouble with mainia only made me flush wich eased anxiety and caused me to be tired afterwards...It might affect others diffently though. Nician is a B vitamin and B vitmins can cause you to more energetic you shouldn't take them in excess esp if you have bipolar....I have taken other B vitamins in the past that have made me feel slightly manic or hypomanic so I would only take them on days when I felt increibly tired and needed to be alert for school in the mornings.
Avatar m tn Do you mind "newbies" here? I just stumbled on the Complementary Medicine Community - never knew about it before... I've recently become interested in B-complex and B-12, so this post caught my eye. I recently began taking a sublingual B-Complex, grasping at straws that it would help my energy level. Unlike the previous poster, I did NOT have nightmares fortunately. BUT I didn't take it for more than about 2 or 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn t get a definitive answer. I am a hepatitis-b carrier I have been taking vitamin b complex and vitamin-C supplements. I was wondering if they are bad for my liver? It won't cause any damage to my liver, will it? This is the one i take: Each tablet contains Thiamin (Vitamin B1) 7mg 636% RDA Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) 14mg 1,000%RDA Niacin 4.
Avatar m tn Well, in the B-vitamin I had, I was getting over 3,000 percent of some B-vitamins, and the pill had thiamin, and niacin, and other nuerological minerals needed for the body, but I was getting too much. On top of that, if my body didn't feel good...or felt excessively tired, I took my typical vitamin....just because I thought, since I have EBV I really need to make up for it.
1381186 tn?1280202029 As for the Bs, the most important for mood are B6 and B12, with folate another player and thiamine and niacinamide and niacin being involved as well with some of the symptoms. The best complex would be what's called a stress B -- it's a B complex focusing on the Bs most involved in the nervous system plus Vitamin C. Some stress Bs also contain relaxant herbs and some also contain adrenal regulating herbs.
Avatar n tn I take Niacin twice a day as recommended by my physician a long with a vitamin B - 100 complex tablet and my Tinnitus is lower in tone.
Avatar m tn t know what exactly causes them, I believe in the biopsychosocial model to describe most of human behaviour--combo of biological, psychological and social factors... But vitamin and mineral deficiencies definitely contribute to mental problems and there is a lot of evidence suggesting that poor nutrition is a culprit to many mental illnesses. I'm glad you are telling people about Hoffer's research!
1063764 tn?1272821064 t shows they are quite different in action. Niacin is mostly for cholesterol and the heart and blood pressure, while folic acid is essential to proper nervous system functioning, and is in a balance with B6 and B12, which are especially important for mood regulation, to control homocysteine which in overabundance causes inflammation in the blood vessels.
12802766 tn?1427764870 I am currently on 400 milligrams of Lyrica per day because ihave pins and needles my hands and foot that drive me crazy. doctor said my vitamin B levels are five times the normal and he thinks this is causing the pins and needles. I don't see him until May. in the meantime the Lyrica only touches the surface of the pain. Does anyone have any suggestions for relief of the pain? Does anyone know how to get rid of vitamin B in your body?
Avatar f tn Also Dirty neck of the atopics (family history of allergy) is a look alike. Get the boy's CBC and urine examination also.Addition of B complex factors would help. Do consult your doc. ok?
Avatar f tn Many diabetic clinics provide such testing for free. You might try some alpha-lipoic acid, 1000 mg of omega-3 fish oil, and some slow release niacin. The niacin improves the microcirculation, as does the omega-3 fish oil. If you are paying cash and specify you only want an hba1c and a fasting glucose test it shouldn't be very expensive. To evaluate the thyroid a test known as a TSH is required. This is also inexpensive.
Avatar n tn Vitamin B is a water soluble vitamin and would not have built up in short time that you took the supplements. The only one that above recommended levels was Zinc and you has since lowered it. Suggest if you prefer supplements to take them within the recommended dose levels.
Avatar n tn You can ask your doctor about fish oil also. A good multi-B vitamin is good for the heart and nervous system.
Avatar f tn My pain doc said my vitamin B was low and wrote me an rx for Metanx, which is a vitamin B suppliment. I'm all for it. Except when I went to pick up the script the pharmacy informed me that my insurence won't cover it and it costs $123.00 a month. Wowsa. That's a fancy vitamin!! I asked him what the difference is between that and an over the counter vitamin B complex and he didn't really have much of an answer for me.
Avatar f tn Be very careful with B6. 200mg per day has been shown to cause neuropathy that can take years to heal.
Avatar f tn is niacin bad for wet macular degenration? it is included in my b complex vitamin. 20 mg.
574118 tn?1305135284 I have experienced that concern myself as I take a full vitamin b supplement and have to avoid anything that has added vitamin b to it in larger amounts. Before I did I would experience mania. As with anything else there are noted concerns about what could be above an appropriate amount. The W.H.O. (World Health Organization) guidelines are generally the accepted figures for all vitamins and minerals and you can discuss that with your doctor.
463841 tn?1207438535 I would call your pharmacist if I were you. Also, the Niacinamide is a supplement which would be in a completely different catagory than Xanax. I have a book right here called the "Vitamin Bible" and it doesn't indicate any reason why you couldn't take it and Xanax at the same time. I mean, the Niacinamide is just a vitamin, you know?
