niaspan

Avatar n tn I had an eye injury to left eye and now can only see dim light, no images. Since taking Niacor I have started seeing color (traffic lights for instance) and both eyes seem to have a greater sensitivity to light. I have glaucoma which I have had under control for 15 years. Could the Niacor have any impact on my vision?
Avatar f tn Niacin is very benefit for lowering cholesterol, but it can cause problems with other labs, especially liver profile. Blood work should be monitored when taking Niacin. That is why I questioned if your physician was aware; he/she should always be made aware of all medications you are taking. Just because they are over the counter does not mean you should not be monitored periodically and/or you won't have problems with them. In my opinmin, the Niacin is the culprit.
Avatar m tn But vitamin and mineral deficiencies definitely contribute to mental problems and there is a lot of evidence suggesting that poor nutrition is a culprit to many mental illnesses. I'm glad you are telling people about Hoffer's research! So many doctors prescribe pills right away, and many people believe this is the only way to get better. Sometimes it's worth doing a blood test...
Avatar n tn Timed-release niacin is commonly prescribed to prevent arterioschlerosis. It acts as a mild vasodilator, relaxing the blood vessels and improving the microcirculation. The "fast-acting" niacin causing flushing of the face and sometimes itching. There should be no problems whatsoever with discontinuing niacin "cold-turkey" , nor should there be any withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar m tn I am 26 and have tried so many under eye creams for my dark circles and bags. There are so many to choose from and nothing has seemed to work thus far. I feel like I'm wasting so much time and money. Is there a more effective method and less expensive route that I can take?
1063764 tn?1272821064 t shows they are quite different in action. Niacin is mostly for cholesterol and the heart and blood pressure, while folic acid is essential to proper nervous system functioning, and is in a balance with B6 and B12, which are especially important for mood regulation, to control homocysteine which in overabundance causes inflammation in the blood vessels.
Avatar n tn I feel fatigued and my skin feels uncomfortable. Could the Niacin I took still be causing this or did the Niacin trigger something in my body? I was never allergic to shellfish in the past. What else could be at work here?
Avatar f tn if you can try the slo release formula and make sure you take with food.. I use and research a lot of alternate treatments.. Niacin has the propensity to flare up causing those exacerbated feelings also your scalp may feel like its on fire too.. You should be ok and if it doesn't go away seek medical treatment ..
Avatar m tn FYI have been to the doctor, had chest x-ray (normal) had sonogram on right armpit and breast area (normal) and blood work (CBC and PSA and both normal). Back to Doctor next week for more specific blood test and exam.
Avatar m tn It has both EPA and DHA in it, I highly recommend it for folks that have lipid problems and want to keep their arteries squeaky clean. Oh yes, something I found out, I assimilate it better when I take a daily dose of acidophilus, in fact, I have read that that is one of the best ways for it to work to its optimum effect.
Avatar m tn Hi, I've been having a problem with circles under my eyes on and off for a while. I'm 20 years old and I sleep at least 8 hours a day everyday. I don't seem to have sleeping problems but everyone also asks if I had a long night the previous night. I've attached a photo of my eyes for you to judge my problem.

479244 tn?1271563659 (uh oh) Anyway, I checked and found that someone with liver disease (I have mild inflamation and no fibrosis) should not take over 35 mgs. of niacin per day. This stuff I bought at the drug store has 25 mgs. of niacin. Is is all they had , but I am thinking about returning it. IYO - is it safe for me to take this or should I return and look for plain ol B12 liquid.

Avatar n tn But, when they changed the crestor to generic also, THATS when the problems started and co-q10 didnt help at all. Its been so severe that some days I cant get out of bed. I cannot stop taking either due to hyperacute triglycedemia. So, for a short time, I quit the generic crestor and not much difference, however, I did notice, there was a new brand of generic tricor. Its taken me six months to figure out that its the certain combination of generics that are doing it.
Avatar f tn Did you have a question on adult type 2 diabetes?
Avatar n tn Eat walnuts and almonds. Drink grape juice. Eat more garlic and foods that contain fiber (vegetables and fruits). Take supplements: calcium, copper, and a good multiple vitamin. Exercise and eat small meals all day long. Don't smoke and drink alcohol in moderation. Ask your doctor about crystalline Niacin. If you drink brewed coffee, think about switching to instant which doesn't contain cafestol and kahweol which raise cholesterol levels.

Avatar f tn Niacin in most people causes the face to flush/blush. No flush Niacin is readily available OTC. A word of caution, however, Niacin is a B3 and B3's are known to elevate blood sugars. Test your bs often and on a regular basis.
Avatar n tn using statin drugs) because Niacin also raises HDL and cuts LPa and triglycerides (while statins only cut LDL). I have been on this regimen since 2003 and the effect on my cholesterol/triglycerides and LPa has been more than as hoped for. Just as with statin drugs, it is necessary to get regular blood tests (ideally every 6 months) to ensure there is no liver damage.
