Hello, I am 16 turning 17 in May. I started taking Nexium in 2013 in August. I have a severe case of Acid Reflux. My esophagus is mildly burned. I have no ulcers. Ever since I was 5 I had acid reflux disease for years we couldn't figure it out neither could my mom she just thought I had bad morning stomach aches until she became an EMT paramedic in 2010, ever since she figured it out we've been looking for medicine to help.
I lost 65 lbs. and have no reflux for about 6 mos. I would like to stop Nexium forever. I realize I may have to take something in place of it. I take 40mg daily of nexium daily. I was having acid attacks even with the Nexium, alway at night when sleeping. I have the wedge, extra pillows etc. Garvistan, Tums next to my bed. I once asked Dr. when could I stop Nexium he said I would need to lose weight. I have low iron, low B levels. Thinning hair etc. I already have spinal stenosis.

Has anyone stopped the Nexium and had the biliary dyskinesia go away and gallbladder return to a normal ejection fraction? I have been on Nexium for the last year. I was on it once previous to this go-around and had stopped taking it for a few months. Then a horrible acid reflux hit. I was on Lorazepam, at the time, too, when the acid reflux hit. It was my understanding acid reflux was a side effect of the Lorazepam.
i understand what your going through bec. we are exactly on the same boat.have you read the post from sickboy1 in this forum?if not, try reading it,its a detailed explanation of what he had been through (medicines,tests,drs etc.) including his advice and his research leading him to believe that its bile reflux. i think he also mentioned that he is going through diversion surgery.its a major surgery i believe wherein they'll divert bile flow to a lower part of the intestine.
On top of that my gall bladder was functioning on the HIDA scan at 8%. Gall bladder came out, the heartburn stopped, reflux stopped, stomach pain quit, no more Nexium, Mylanta, Tums, sleeping uprite, life is normal again. Check on your gall bladder as well. Stones may not be present but that doesn't mean the gall bladder is working. Be persistant.
I apologize in advance for the long post but I want to give the full details in hopes of finding some answers.
Back in December, I finally broke down and had an upper endoscopy done. I had been suffering with difficulty swallowing for nearly two years, but had been terrified of the endoscopy and convinced myself the trouble swallowing was anxiety related.
I was diagnosed with Grade 2 esophagitis and gastritis, as well as an esophageal ulcer and 2 stomach ulcers.
Many people are miss diagnosed with asthma that really just have very bad acid reflux. When the acid reflux is controlled, their asthma goes away. The formal name for this type of asthma is laryngeal-pharyngeal reflux.
Good doctor too consider that possibility. I hope that the treatment works for you.
thanks for that information. my brother-in-law did have acid reflex and barrett's esophagus. he was put on nexium for that reason.
I had a very bad acid reflux attack, which has gotten alot better with a strict diet and Nexium. My only issue left is a sore feeling by my rib cage right and left and right in the middle of my stomach right below the middle of my chest. Is this air in my body? Is this a side effect of Nexium? I've been on Nexium for 3 days. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Still have a slight burn here and there, but much much better.
My sister takes Nexium for acid reflux. Now she has started have pain in her knees. I talked her into stopping nexium for a while and the knee pain subsided. However, she said that she had to have the acid reflux medicine. Could the nexium have caused fluid in her knees? And if so what is an alternative?

the doctor said this is likely a coincidence, but for me it seems like quite a big coincidence that i can go for 2 months on nexium without an attack, but whilst not on nexium ill have regular attacks. once i had an attack while i was on nexium, but i had only been taking it for a week in a row at that stage.
has anyone else been in a similar situation, and has anyone had their gallbladder removed in a similar situation and have it be successful?
I also had suffered from acid reflux and was prescribed Nexium. It actually worked for about a month. After that one month it did not matter if I took it at all because the acid reflux came back and worse than ever.
I realized I had to do something about it because my throat was taking to much abuse from the acid mixed with Nexium I guess. I found a book with natural remedies.
Ok so I have some of the worst acid reflux....What I don't have is heartburn...Mostly just pain with vomiting...Vomiting is on a regular basis...Pain is slight but constant with out breaks of so much pain that I have put myself in the hospital and they had me on 4 different pain meds before the pain subsided...Morphine, Loritab, and I don't remember the others...I have been on Nexium for several months and have recently tried the Activia 14 day challenge....
I have not commented here in at least one year. For about two years I had the worst reflux possible. I could not lay flat for more than 1 minute and I'd drown in acid.
Better now. Three years ago I went totally off PPI's..gradually. I tried about 4 brands, at that time perscript Zigerid was the best for me, but it made my digestive just feel wrong. And the cost was insane.
I learned about the big picture - all around body health, what I ate and body PH.
I was told that I have Acid Reflux and I was prescribed Nexium which I have to take for the next 6 weeks. She told me that I have a lesion on my larynx, which was cause by the acid from my stomach. I've been told to avoid all the foods I love to eat/drink. I have never suffered from heart burn, or anything else relating to acid reflux. I never get any side effects from eating spicy or acidic foods. Could acid reflux really cause the hoarseness of my voice?
Both said they did not believe there was a correlation to the hearburn and resection. The GI doctor put me on Aciphex for 6 days which did not work and put me on Nexium 40 mg twice daily yesterday which does not seem to be working either as I have to take rolaids about 5 hours after taking the Nexium.
Can you tell me:
1. Have you ever heard of hearburn/GERD starting after a bowel resection

for some reason in south africa my discovery medical aid will not pay for it.they will however pay for lansoprazole.and nexium is quite costly.i switched and find the results are totally different.i have a hyatis hernia and reflux is a day to day problem .i did a scope recently and all was fine.does anybody else have this problem.my wife is totally convinced that it is my imagination .my reflux has returned with a case of running tummy.
