Since then I have been on various rounds of antibiotics, prednisone, cough syrups, singular, symbicort, albuterol etc. I had been treated at the allergy clinic years before for allergies and asthma. I have had to take about 8 days of 10mg prednisone about 4 -5 times in the last 8 months. It is about the only thing that helps my coughing and spitting up of phlegm.
I have been finding research about a connection between food allergies and gerd and am looking for more info for that. I am going to request testing to verify or eliminate that concern.
As long as I take my two nexium every day, I seem to be fine. initially I also took an allergy pill at night to control my symptoms so that I could sleep through the night. At that time, i was also sleeping at about a 30 degree angle.
can treating GERD with nexium really help sleep apnea and asthma? my ENT thought so and I've read that GERD can even cause sleep apnea, central apnea somehow??
I wouldn't take Nexium either without a diagnosis. Nexium suppresses stomach acid, so eventually your stomach will have to make more in order to digest protein and minerals. It becomes an ongoing chronic race between medication and the body's need to digest. But Nexium isn't for ulcers -- for an ulcer, they would give a potent antibiotic to kill the h. pylori. Nexium is for things such as IBS and GERD. The poster really needs a diagnosis in order to plan the next move.

( In spite of a FESS surgery 1 year ago) I use a nasal inhaler and also take 40 mg Nexium daily. I have terrible
post nasal drip. Wake up at night with a choking cough and then vomit copious amounts of phlem or sometimes
my evening dinner. Two years ago a EGD and found I have stricture of my esophagus. I am at my wits end.

After going to see my Doctor he put me on Prednisone thinking it was my allergies. Took that for 5 days, nothing. Went to see a heart doctor, everything was perfect. I got a barium test done at the hospital, that turned out to show I had acid reflux in several spots on my esophagus.
They gave me Nexium, which I've been taking for the past few weeks with little to no result, I've been out of school for about 4 weeks now because it's gotten so bad.
I was wondering if anyone has ever tried Nexium (for over acid production). I infrequently have stomach pain, pop a nexium, and its like a magic bullet. Not only cures the pain, but I have the best dreams and generally well being feeling. I was thinking that the stress of life leads to acid production and that the nexium fixes (tricks) the brain into thinking more positive thoughts or whatever, thereby stopping the cycle of stress and acid production. Anyway, it really works well for me.
Well I did go to the ER, they did blood work, they took stomach x-rays and gave me a 30 day prescription for nexium (the purple pill) and sent me home, told me to see my family doc within 1-2 days. Now I just posted again about the dizzyness, oh, the nexium seems to be working on my stomach. But now I am still dizzy, especially when I lay down. It makes me want to vomit, and pass out.
I went to an allergist who tested me 3 years ago for allergies which all turned out to be negative to talk about the iv contrast allergy. She noted that it appears that I'm over the contrast episode but that my throat is very irritated and suspects its from GERD which I've had before and that is causing the lump sensation. The strange thing is that I wasn't having very bad GERD symptoms until I had the iv contrast allergy.

This could be a long list of things including allergies, blood sugars, nerve issues, ulcers etc. I am afraid I cannot narrow it down, so you should speak at length with your doctor when you can.

s just hard to believe that nerves can give you acid reflux for ten years, high blood preasure for 2 years, and all the other wacky symptoms i'm having. i'm not a doctor but i would think that what ever is happening in my stomach is causing the anxiety and everything else sinse it started there but what do i know.

I have another suggestion for you. I've just learned that we can develop allergies to certain foods that can cause all sorts of havoc on our bodies and digestive systems. Look up eonsinophilic esophagitis - this can also have an affect on the stomach, but it mainly contributes to the heartburn and the proton pumps not helping. I have struggled with chronic heartburn for 10 weeks now with no help from the proton pumps. I'm going to call my doc tomorrow about some allergy testing.
Nexium for life! The package insert states a max of 4 to 8 weeks for GERD. Stomach acid is essential to absorb nutrients and kill off pathogens. My mother almost died from severe life threatening conditions due to taking nexium for 6 years.
She is now free of severe GERD and severe LPR taking betaine HCL with pepsin supplements (to increase stomach acid) and digestive enzyme supplements (to help with digestion). She also has a hiatus hernia so these supplements are gold.
so i went to another gi today. she suggested going off protonix and start nexium 2 x day for 1 month when i should be completely symptom free and after 1 month do another egd. i don't know what to do.
i was eager to stop the meds now they want me to 2 x per day!!!however am i going to wean off them ?
what do i do ?
