nexium and wine

I started on Prilosec and had diarrhea, then switched to Nexium and a variety of others to try to solve this problem (same results). Finally took Zantac, which is OK with my system. Btw, I never had leakage with any of these. The leakage occurred only in those 2 instances when I also had wine. Thanks for asking.

The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.

Everyone is different as to how the meds will help....most of us need to modify diet and lifestyle... AND when on a med like Nexium....which is a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) you need to step off the meds slowly to help prevent rebound effect which can cause your symptoms to increase. Talk with your Dr again, let him/her know you felt better on the med and now have symptoms returning....the Dr may offer to change the dosage and suggest you modify your diet....

I never eat after my dinner in the evening after work but will certainly elevate the head of the bed and see if this helps. Have cut out wine altogether and found I am getting some relief! Have heard ffrom others that Nexium also caused hair loss with them - interesting!

I have found that occasionally, during chemo, I need to pop in a PEPCID AC COMPLETE in addition to the Nexium .. but never at the same time. I always needed Pepcid if I drank red wine. I asked my gastro MD about taking both and he said I could since they do different things. My ONC also knows I take both ... Constipation/Diarrhea are common with chemo. I like Miralax for constipation. I prefer not to dwell on the more serious side effects at this time.

Hi, I have regular bouts of what I assume to be heartburn: discomfort behind the lower half of my sternum. It only really bothers me with liquids, even a large batch of almond milk smoothie, that I made the other day. Wine gives me a certain amount of discomfort, but beer really gives me trouble. After two or three pints I get quite intense pain, and a need to vomit. It feels like my whole system has backed up, and that my intestine's won't let the contents of my stomach through.

I went to the doctor and he recommended surgery (fundiplication) or take 1 nexium in am and i nexium in pm. Also, asthma is tied to GERD. I had a asthma test and I did have a mild case of asthma. I now take 2 nexium a day and 1/day Advair diskus. I now have no GERD. I am 5'5" and weigh 162lbs. I was told to lose 30 lbs and then my "valve" would start working again and I wouldn't need meds or surgery. OK I can lose the weight, but keep it off?

Soda,carbonated drinks, beer, wine and several foods and spices can cause excess stomach acid, like Tomato, and tomato based sauces, onion, garilc, Caffein and chocolate, there is a list on line you can google. Have you ever been tested or biopsied for HPylori bacteria when they did your endoscopy?

I have a scheduled appointment with a gastroenterologist next week. Yesterday I visited my GP and she double checked with an EKG and everything was normal there, so we are going with the assumption of GERD. Both yesterday and today I have noticed facial flushing- I can feel my face starting to get hot and I look red. It lasts a good hour. I do suffer from some anxiety issues, currently only taking Xanax when needed (which it has been a while since I have).

Hi, Im hoping to talk to a doctor about nexium. Im here on behalf of my girlfriend who recently started to take nexium for her stomach pains. She has been very hot at random times and has been nauseas at night. Her period was suppose to start yesterday but it has not yet and we are not sure as to why it has not. She had one episode of cramps this morning but it was very short and ended soon after.

I was diagnosed w/Barrett's esophagus last summer. My specialist told me to come back in 3 years and be re-tested to see if it had returned to normal. Can your esophagus ever be normal again? He only prescribed Zantac 150 3x's a day, and told me I could continue to drink coffee all day long (I'm a 6 cupper) and drink alcohol at night (which I've been doing), My primary care dr.

that you were on anyway right? if he or she knew you were on nexium and xanax and still prescribed it to you then it should be okay i guess. also the same for your doc. that prescribed you the nexium. sometimes you can find on certain websites like drugs.com or something how certain meds react with others.

Hello, I'm new to this site. I was recently diagnosed with GERD, and prescribed to nexium. Today is the 2 week mark of taking nexium. The only symptom I seem to get is really bad belching and it feels like there is a lump in my throat, those were the same symptoms I had when I was diagnosed. I had the same symptom for about a month before i went in. Maybe once or twice did I get heartburn or get an acidic taste in my mouth.

Hi selmaS, I first started out with aciphex and then the doctor prescribed nexium. The nexium didnt work so I went back to the aciphex. I use to drink beer a lot and I started drinking a wine coolers and stopped eating certain foods. I did have my thyroid checked a few years ago but i think I need to again since mostly everyone in my family has it. I have to see the ENT in the morning and have a procedure done and I'll ask about that. What do you do for the nodules on ur thyroid?

I have had gerd plus a hiatal hernia for years. I take nexium and have for at least ten years. Now I am told I have iron defiency anemia. Reading through the insert that comes with nexium it appears this drug could cause the anemia. Has anybody experienced this?

Hi, I just switched from Prevacid to Nexium and within two days started to have dark stools. Have had an endoscopy, CT scan of my abdomen and also a ultra sound on my stomach. Nothing has turned up to be a problem but still the dark stools. I would appreciate someone commenting if they've experienced the same with Nexium, "the little purple pill". Thanks.

non-erosive gastritis of the gastric antrum. Nexium 40mg x 8 weeks. H. pylori neg with biopsy and lab test. I am very conscientious regarding my health and diet. I just don't understand why? Could I possible have a food allergy that is causing my gastritis? I do not take NSAIDS. Occassional glass of wine and coffee. No processed food. Plenty of fruits and vegetables. Are you able to offer any other advice?

He followed up with his doctor on this and I do not think they did the right thing by giving him Nexium. Since he has been on the nexium he has gained 20-30lbs and is now feeling bloated and worse than before. I just do not know what to do about this anymore. I do not know what it could be caused from.

Has anyone else experienced only nexium working? I have used all other medicines and they don't seem to work, but now my insurance company wont pay for it.

The company who makes Nexium will ok brand if I have a rejection from my Ins. Co. I called my Ins. co and they said that the do not send papers out that they do not pay for brands. Yes nexium is ok to take, i hane cirrhosis and thats what my hepo ordered for me, he did switch me to prilosec only because its over the counter same as prevacid which is also ok.............

I think the confusion about all of the PPIs, including nexium, is that most docs prescribe PPIs without a lot of testing and without that testing it's possible that if someone feels better taking the nexium and stays on it longterm without any testing being done, it could end up masking a more serious problem - like stomach cancer.

Hello, I am 16 turning 17 in May. I started taking Nexium in 2013 in August. I have a severe case of Acid Reflux. My esophagus is mildly burned. I have no ulcers. Ever since I was 5 I had acid reflux disease for years we couldn't figure it out neither could my mom she just thought I had bad morning stomach aches until she became an EMT paramedic in 2010, ever since she figured it out we've been looking for medicine to help.

I have been having really bad heartburn and a burning feeling in my stomach. I was told to take Nexium but I have a severe allergy to penicillin. My question is, can I take nexium if I'm allergic to penicillin?
