Nexium and vitamin d

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium and vitamin d

nexium

Avatar m tn s has healed completely, but I am concerned that continued use of Nexium may result in loss of bone and eventual hip fracture. I take calcum, vitamin D, (and other supplements) and exercise regularly, but I can feel my bones "thinning down" (fingers and toes). Is there anything else I should be doing to keep my bone strength up?
Avatar n tn Nexium itself does not cause bone loss, but it may decrease the absorption of drugs and vitamins. Nexium may decrease the absorption of calcium and vitamin D leading to bone loss.
Avatar m tn take synthroid on an empty stomach, half an hour to one hour before breakfast; vitamin B12, vitamin D and prenatal vitamins for lunch (vitamin A, D, E and K are fat soluble vitamins so eat a meal containing fat for better absorption); metformin with the evening meal. You can switch this around but avoid taking vitamins with synthroid (calcium and iron can interfer with thyroxine absorption) and metformin (can inhibit the absorption of vitamin B12).
Avatar f tn I have been going to a holistic doctor for about two years now and take a lot of supplements and have bloodwork done every 3 months to check my hormone levesl, including the B12 because of taking the Nexium. I do take B12 and vitamin D on a daily basis. He is the one wanting me not to take the Nexium and has tried me on several things that didn't work. I found some natural chewable pills with aloe vera in them that actually work pretty well.
Avatar m tn The doctor put me on Omeprazole for 21 days and after that the symptoms came back and they put me in for Esomeprazole (Nexium) for another 21 days. After the Nexium I still have the symptoms nausea and hyperacidity though I haven't had heartburn since then, just the feeling of tightness on my chest sometimes. My question is has anyone survived GERD without relying on medication?
Avatar f tn Eating is extremely painful. I have terrible stomach pain everyday. My doctor put me on nexium and my mouth is even more sore. I almost faint when I stand up. I just feel like I am slowly dying and no one will help me. My B12 level was check again. It was in normal range. But I am deficient in Folic Acid and Vit D. I am now taking supplememts for that, but I dont feel any better. Could I be deficient in Vit B12 and still have a normal blood test? What else can I do?
Avatar m tn But now the pain came back again with muscle pain in my neck and shoulders and pain and stifness and tingling in my hands and legs .A month ago i checked my vitamine D again and it was (18) now my doctor put me again on 50.000 iu a week along with the physical therapy ! still no improvement ! Im really fed up with these symptoms!! Has anyone experienced these symptoms? .
Avatar f tn Vitamin D3 is made in the skin when 7-dehydrocholesterol absorbs UVB ultraviolet light at wavelengths between 270 - 300 nm * Kidney and liver disease - vitamin D is processed (metabolized) by the liver and kidneys into an active form of vitamin D * Parathyroid conditions (parathyroid - glands in front of the thyroid). PTH (parathyroid hormone) regulates calcium in the blood.
Avatar n tn If you have had a vagotomy, taking Nexium is not advised, A vagotomy reduces acid production and the Nexium also reduces acid production. My advice, having gone through the same surgery ,is to stop taking the Nexium, which by the way is not recommended for use more than 14 days. Take a fiber supplement mixed with water and a teaspoon of cider vinegar before every meal . If you should have occasional acid stomach symptoms, take regular Tums.
Avatar m tn My main worry was that I wanted to try it again but was afraid that with all the supplements and then the nexium and levo that it might not be a good thing?
Avatar m tn Then was on the d-limonene for 6 months and gradually went of that too (it was cheap also at the vitamin store). Now I still sleep with the bed jacked up 6 inches (angle) with a normal pillow. Eat way better - no pizza or fast food, limit coffee. Dont even take anything, not even the digestive enzymes anymore. Its about correcting what was wrong and breaking the vicious cycle of reflux. It appears as though my weak and acid burnt LES has healed. What a relief!
Avatar m tn In fact, magnesium should be taken with the vitamin D if you take vitamin D. My GAD was at its worst when my vitamin D was at its lowest, so check your vitamin D levels. Magnesium also helps with GERD symptoms, so it's very important stuff. Taking melatonin at night can help, too. The sublingual form is the most effective. Don't use the kind that isn't sublingual, because it has to go through the digestive process before it will start to take effect.
Avatar m tn I HAD A BLOOD TEST 2 WEEKS AGO AND MY VITAMIN D LEVEL IS LOW AND MY LIVER ENZYMES ARE HIGH,SINCE I DON'T DRINK ALCOHOL AND I HAVEN'T TAKE ANY TYLENOL LATELY MY DOC RECOMEND TO HAVE ANOTHER BLOOD TEST,WHICH WAS DONE LAST WEEK,IS EVEN WORST THE ENZYMES LEVEL,I'M HAVING A LIVER ULTRASOUND TOMORROW,I'M WONDERING WHAT CAN I EXPECT? AND IF THE MEDS I'M TAKING HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH MY LIVER?

Good amounts of stomach acid is also needed to kill off bacteria, fungi and parasites. The FDA made a statement in March 2010 to only take PPI's (eg: nexium, prilosec) for up to 14 days, 3 times a year. In March 2011, the FDA issued a new PPI warning of magnesium deficiency.
Avatar n tn My doctor diagnosed me almost a year ago with "the worst case of acid reflux [she'd] ever seen." Literally, I would drink a glass of water and get reflux issues. I was put on Nexium for a long time, and I have since switched to Prilosec OTC because I ran out of health insurance. It's been about five days on Prilosec but I keep feeling nauseous in the morning after I take it, but it's nothing too bad and it goes away fairly quickly.
19024797 tn?1471291132 m taking 6,000 IU of Vitamin D daily and have read many articles on how Magnesium and Vitamin K all work together in the process of absorbing Vitamin D and visa vera...but when my doctor but me on Vitamin D he didn't mention supplementing with Magnesium or Vitamin K. Do I really need to take all three? or can I just take Vitamin D?
Avatar n tn t get false high results. I also suggest that you test for Vitamin D, B12, ferritin, and morning serum cortisol. The ratio of Free T3 to Reverse T3 is important. High Reverse T3 can negate the effect of your Free T3 level. D should be about 50, B12 in the upper end of its range, and ferritin should be about 70. I am especially curious about your ferritin and cortisol levels because improper levels of is reported to cause pooling of T3 in the blood instead of getting into cells.
Avatar f tn I did find a small group with similar symptoms but my Doc said it was not the Nexium. I stopped it and within 4 days, the flank and thigh pain were gone. I was later put on Omeprazole, 40 mg 2x a day fir the past few months. Not sure yet, but my low back muscles are killing me. I do have Osteo and my Endo doc told me to take B-12, Vitamin E and Calcium as I won't take Fisomax or Actonel. You may consider this.
Avatar n tn while I was on 6-80mg Nexium a day, I had weird and chronic gastro-viruses and I believe Nexium kills all the acid in your stomach and then you are more prone to stomach viruses.
Avatar f tn Among the major ones, you have addressed Vitamin D. You also need to test for ferritin and B12 and supplement as needed to optimize. Ferritin should be at least 100, and B12 should be in the upper end of its range. Vitamin D should be at least 50 mg/mL. It is also good to test for cortisol to make sure it is optimal, since it also affects thyroid. You can read about all this in the following link.
