It first started with trouble swallowing and a scratchy feeling in my throat. My doctor diagnosed me with GERD And gave me Nexium. Over time that made it easier to swallow but the pain got worse. Then I noticed I had Oral Thrush, I got a different medicine which cleared the Thrush but now my tougne is a brownish colour?
to the point where I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping for breath with a mouthful of acid. I was on Aciphex first, then Protonix and now Nexium.
My problem is that the back of my tongue is all white and bumpy (looks a bit like thrush). I was told that this is from the acid that has come up over the years. Is that likely? If so, is there anything I can do to remove it (treatment, over-the-counter remedy, medication, etc.)?

thrush is usually due to a yeast overgrowth on the tongue. Are you taking antibiotics?
Get a tongue scraper and brush your tongue for 2 minutes, 3x a day. Take a strong probiotic (if you dont already).
Maybe think of starting one of the candida(yeast) reducer meds, you can find them on amazon or at a pharmacy.
another option is to get some organic apple cider vinegar, mix with warm water and swish it around your mouth for a few minutes a few times a day.
Tried an over the counter yeast cream and a zinc cream and a hydrocortisone cream.This is only a temporary fix and usually ends up getting redder and blotchier.I do also have some swallowing
issues..hard to get things down my throat, really get stuck in there sometimes. Please help me with my mouth...toothpaste even hurts!
That was when I developed my first thrush infection. Since that time, I have never failed to get thrush and vaginal yeast in response to these drugs. I also have had allergies to various molds and fungi since I was 20 years, which necessitated getting immunotherapy through regular injections on and off for years.

I have been prescribed Adderall for 16 years and about 8 years ago I noticed that feeling of not being able to get a full breath. I went to National Jewish where they did a laryngoscopy and we saw that my larynx would collapse just before my breath was complete. They said this was due to thrush in my throat and acid reflux (though I haven't found a connection between the two or shown symptoms associated with thrush.

Im hoping to talk to a doctor about nexium. Im here on behalf of my girlfriend who recently started to take nexium for her stomach pains. She has been very hot at random times and has been nauseas at night. Her period was suppose to start yesterday but it has not yet and we are not sure as to why it has not. She had one episode of cramps this morning but it was very short and ended soon after.
that you were on anyway right? if he or she knew you were on nexium and xanax and still prescribed it to you then it should be okay i guess. also the same for your doc. that prescribed you the nexium. sometimes you can find on certain websites like drugs.com or something how certain meds react with others.
Hello, I'm new to this site. I was recently diagnosed with GERD, and prescribed to nexium. Today is the 2 week mark of taking nexium. The only symptom I seem to get is really bad belching and it feels like there is a lump in my throat, those were the same symptoms I had when I was diagnosed. I had the same symptom for about a month before i went in. Maybe once or twice did I get heartburn or get an acidic taste in my mouth.

I m 23 years old. since 2 years now I have bad breath. I visited dentists and gastroenterology docs as well. they took my blood and tested for h. pylori which was (Negative). Then did EGD (endoscopy) which was normal too. Gave me few medis like "NEXIUM" "PRO BALANCE" and few more which dint work atol. I dnt smoke or drink. I have improper eating and sleeping habits. I drink lots of tea and coffee.
Hi, I just switched from Prevacid to Nexium and within two days started to have dark stools. Have had an endoscopy, CT scan of my abdomen and also a ultra sound on my stomach. Nothing has turned up to be a problem but still the dark stools. I would appreciate someone commenting if they've experienced the same with Nexium, "the little purple pill". Thanks.
3) April 27, I went to visit the doctor, and was given 30 days of Nexium, and sent to do a blood test, ultra sound, and upper GI. I took the Nexium once a day 30 minutes before my evening dinner, but nexium doesn't seem to help to relieve the problem.
4) I took an blood test, ultra sound, and upper GI series on Mid May. Ultra sound and blood test seems to be normal, but upper GI shows that I have mild acid reflux.
5) June, Nexium finished, went to see the doctor.
Massive amounts of heartburn, bad indigestion, throwing up at times ( no blood ) and also always has gas 90 percent of the day. He followed up with his doctor on this and I do not think they did the right thing by giving him Nexium. Since he has been on the nexium he has gained 20-30lbs and is now feeling bloated and worse than before. I just do not know what to do about this anymore. I do not know what it could be caused from.

The company who makes Nexium will ok brand if I have a rejection from my Ins. Co. I called my Ins. co and they said that the do not send papers out that they do not pay for brands. How can I resolved this problem?

I think the confusion about all of the PPIs, including nexium, is that most docs prescribe PPIs without a lot of testing and without that testing it's possible that if someone feels better taking the nexium and stays on it longterm without any testing being done, it could end up masking a more serious problem - like stomach cancer.
Hello, I am 16 turning 17 in May. I started taking Nexium in 2013 in August. I have a severe case of Acid Reflux. My esophagus is mildly burned. I have no ulcers. Ever since I was 5 I had acid reflux disease for years we couldn't figure it out neither could my mom she just thought I had bad morning stomach aches until she became an EMT paramedic in 2010, ever since she figured it out we've been looking for medicine to help.
I have been having really bad heartburn and a burning feeling in my stomach. I was told to take Nexium but I have a severe allergy to penicillin. My question is, can I take nexium if I'm allergic to penicillin?
She was on acid blockers for 25 years (tagament for 20 years, nexium for 5 years and also took gaviscon for 10 years). I took my mother off nexium and gaviscon cold turkey and started digestive enzyme supplements and betaine HCI with pepsin supplements in their place. She never got worse only better. She no longer suffers GERD, LPR and is 95% improved with gastritis. If you don't want to go cold turkey you could try taking digestive enzyme supplements and wean off nexium more slowly.

If you've been on the nexium and you've changed your diet to a GERD-friendly one and the symptoms continue, have you been scoped yet? If not, it's time to ask your doc for more testing. Ask to be tested for H. pylori and have an upper endoscopy done to get an idea of what your esophagus, stomach and duodenum look like.
All PPIs have side-effects that can be more serious than weight gain.
