Nexium and nsaids

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium and nsaids

nexium

Avatar n tn When it happened again after few years they put me on Nexium permanently and then even on Nexium I started getting pains for the past 8-9months and they did a series of tests again and couldn't find anything. Then we went to another GI specialist and he stopped my Nexium and then I had GI bleeding again. It is very rare to have a recurrent bleeding episode without any apparent cause except excessive acid. Do you have any explanation and remedy for this condition?
Avatar f tn I have horrible menstrual cramps and the only relief i have found is ibuprofen, naproxen etc (Nsaids) but now i have developed stomach ulcers and gastro infections from it. So i I started taking paracetamol, and pretty high doses. But its not working. At all. What can i take for my cramps that works but are not nsaids? Not taking anything is not an option as I litterary wont be able to stand upright from cramps. I do take 80mg nexium a day. Thanks in advance for any help!
Avatar m tn Im six years out from a true gastric bypass. I have kept my weight off and have done well. I've had lots of problem with my legs though. I had two knee replacements last year. Because of a lack of ability to take any NSAIDS, I ended up on methadone and narco. Now I'm trying to get off of it all. I would love to take one of those Aleve. Every time I take something, even if it's with nexium or prevacid, my stomach hurts. I feel really hungry and it starts a carbohydrate cycle.
Avatar m tn Ok so I have some of the worst acid reflux....What I don't have is heartburn...Mostly just pain with vomiting...Vomiting is on a regular basis...Pain is slight but constant with out breaks of so much pain that I have put myself in the hospital and they had me on 4 different pain meds before the pain subsided...Morphine, Loritab, and I don't remember the others...I have been on Nexium for several months and have recently tried the Activia 14 day challenge....
Avatar f tn t take aspirin or any NSAIDS as they too have upset my stomach and make me sick. My symptoms have gotten drastically worse in the last two years. Originally my Doctor and I thought it was just stress because I lost my husband to suicide and months later I lost my son to cancer but my symptoms were persistent. I started having diarrhea badly and vomiting almost daily. I had a scope done and it showed severe gastritis with a small ulcer. I was put on nexium results for H. Pylori were negative.
Avatar n tn My specialist said I have gastritis. He said I should take Prilosec for 8 months. He didn't say anything about antibiotics. Gastritis is caused by many things: Alcohol, NSAIDs, Helicobacter Pylori, Autoimmune Disorder. The only one that makes sense for my case is Helicobacter Pylori. (Unless Autoimmune Disorder is somehow related to food allergies.) Pylori is a bacteria that is resistant to stomach acid. Taking Prilosec would only make it even more hard to kill.
Avatar f tn t work --- and I feel 10000000000 years old - and my muscles burn and ache and it hurts to lay there and it hurts to shift positions and everything throbs and hot fire shoots up and down my tendons --- and OMG - I can't even begin to describe it ---- so --- if it works for me --- it might be worth trying once NSAIDS don't seem to do the trick. Also - be careful - do some research on NSAIDS... OK?
975514 tn?1324997938 I stopped the NSAID for a short time and my body (especially my shoulder and my lower back) swelled up so bad. When I began taking the NSAID again my condition improved. I don't get pain relief per se from NSAIDs, but without them, I would have intense swelling. I have been tested for RA and am negative, at least one year ago I was. I don't really have a lot of trouble sleeping unless my shoulder or back is swollen. I frequently have to ice my shoulder to fall asleep.
Avatar f tn Excellent advice, Tuck. It took me a long time to realize this, and years of my husband trying to drill this little bit of advice into my head, but too many people elevate their doctor to "god" status and think that their word is the final one. That's completely wrong, and it's also the reason that so many people are living in pain today despite regular visits to their doctors.
Avatar n tn You have just explained to me what the cause of my hives may be,I had Dental work done in May I was given Advil (600mg strentgh) after root canal and a tooth removal I broke out in Hives and it has not gone away, I took the Advil and had quite a lot of it, also given Penicillin , so possibly finally I have found what could have caused it, I am not taking these now so why does it not go away, I have had no painkillers or Penicillin since that time.
Avatar f tn I have already been taking this medicine for 2 weeks, and before that while I was still taking nsaids 1 nexium a day for 4 months along with pepto bismal. Is there anything I can drink that is allowed and how long before the pain goes away. I have not found anyone else who is diagnosed with all this. The pictures also showed ulcers. Help please.

Avatar m tn Thanks for the reply Paxiled. And yes, my doctor is the one who prescribed it. I am aware of the withdrawals and the difficulty of getting off of Paxil. My mother died a few months ago due to leukemia and I looked after her while she was on hospice for 6 weeks and it was a very traumatic experience for me. She died in late October and I was fine until one day in early January I woke up with pressure in my head and I rushed to the ER convinced I had brain cancer, but nothing showed up.
Avatar n tn It is a small, well defined, spot that looks like a light bulb if I were to enter a dim room. It comes and goes in cycles every minute or so, and can last anywhere from seconds to hours. Today I had an episode where I woke up and the "flash" was extremely persistant, it was there pretty much the whole day. Just for an experiment, I took 2 motrin and it seemed to alleviate the symptom. Any ideas why? Should I be more or less worried? Thanks for your input!
Avatar n tn Do you avoid NSAIDs and aspirin? Do you eat frequent small meals instead of eating large/heavy meals? As you likely know GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease) and headache can often be associated with one another. Are you experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety? If so, this can be a trigger of both increased acid production and headache. Also, if you have allergies, symptoms of GERD can be aggravated, so you may want to go to an allergist.
Avatar f tn non-erosive gastritis of the gastric antrum. Nexium 40mg x 8 weeks. H. pylori neg with biopsy and lab test. I am very conscientious regarding my health and diet. I just don't understand why? Could I possible have a food allergy that is causing my gastritis? I do not take NSAIDS. Occassional glass of wine and coffee. No processed food. Plenty of fruits and vegetables. Are you able to offer any other advice?
Avatar m tn Hi, Im hoping to talk to a doctor about nexium. Im here on behalf of my girlfriend who recently started to take nexium for her stomach pains. She has been very hot at random times and has been nauseas at night. Her period was suppose to start yesterday but it has not yet and we are not sure as to why it has not. She had one episode of cramps this morning but it was very short and ended soon after.
Avatar m tn Hi...I am on Nexium and synthroid....can I take them together in the morning and hour before breakfast? I am supposed to take them both in AM. Thanks....
Avatar f tn (Center of abdomen) one day a very sharp burning pain. Doc put me on nexium 40mg for 10 days and 20mg for 20 days. No relief after 3 weeks of meds. I have no heartburn and have been eating very bland. The pain seems to subside after I eat. I had my gallbladder removed about 4 years ago. Please help.
Avatar m tn that you were on anyway right? if he or she knew you were on nexium and xanax and still prescribed it to you then it should be okay i guess. also the same for your doc. that prescribed you the nexium. sometimes you can find on certain websites like drugs.com or something how certain meds react with others.
439522 tn?1214951189 There is really no way to know why your DR prescribed it to you along side the clonodine unless you ask him. A complete and total guess would be because you have a problem taking NSAIDS and so besides narcotics and NSAIDS its the only other medication strong enough to support what your going through as advil is a weak NSAID itself. Your DR may not consider it to be as addictive as some others feel it is.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm new to this site. I was recently diagnosed with GERD, and prescribed to nexium. Today is the 2 week mark of taking nexium. The only symptom I seem to get is really bad belching and it feels like there is a lump in my throat, those were the same symptoms I had when I was diagnosed. I had the same symptom for about a month before i went in. Maybe once or twice did I get heartburn or get an acidic taste in my mouth.
Avatar f tn s twice a day (Prevacid Solutabs, Nexium, Protonix, Prevacid, Zegrid, Kapidex, Aciphex, etc....) and supplemented with Gaviscon or Zantac. I was also on Advair 500/50 and Singulair. My symptoms were a harsh chronic cough and difficulty breathing/severe asthma. Testing (Barium Swallows, Esophagram, Manometries, pH tests) showed my refluxing was extremely severe (getting worse) and that my LES wasn't functioning properly.
Avatar f tn I have had gerd plus a hiatal hernia for years. I take nexium and have for at least ten years. Now I am told I have iron defiency anemia. Reading through the insert that comes with nexium it appears this drug could cause the anemia. Has anybody experienced this?
Avatar f tn Hi, I just switched from Prevacid to Nexium and within two days started to have dark stools. Have had an endoscopy, CT scan of my abdomen and also a ultra sound on my stomach. Nothing has turned up to be a problem but still the dark stools. I would appreciate someone commenting if they've experienced the same with Nexium, "the little purple pill". Thanks.
Avatar m tn Hi, NSAIDs are known to increase the risk for atrial fibrillation. Your episodes of A fib could be related to NSAID usage. According to studies done, use of non-aspirin NSAIDs was associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation or flutter. Compared with non-users, the association was strongest for new users, with a 40-70% increase in relative risk (lowest for non-selective NSAIDs and highest for COX 2 inhibitors).
Avatar f tn Massive amounts of heartburn, bad indigestion, throwing up at times ( no blood ) and also always has gas 90 percent of the day. He followed up with his doctor on this and I do not think they did the right thing by giving him Nexium. Since he has been on the nexium he has gained 20-30lbs and is now feeling bloated and worse than before. I just do not know what to do about this anymore. I do not know what it could be caused from.
