Avatar f tn Can prevacid work better than nexium with treating idiopathic gastroparesis? Is there ever been a comparison done?
Avatar f tn I am on 5mg Reglan 2-3 times daily for gastroparesis. Also, Nexium 40mg and zantac 150 mg. Is there any concern of being on any of these drugs long term?
Avatar f tn My husband has been having the same symptoms and they did the gastroparesis test and it came back normal, yet he is still throwing up daily. The doctors have done an upper gi, lower gi, cat scan, X-ray, scope and biopsy, ultrasound, and hida scan, yet they came back with nothing.
Avatar f tn I've had gastroparesis for over 3 years, mine started after a diagnosis of rectal cancer (squamous cell carcinoma), had 2 kinds of chemo and 25 radiation treatments, the chemo caused a rare blood disease called TTP, I had 3 treatments of plasma fresis which was not working so they did experimental drug (Rituxin) for my TTP, which shut my kidneys down and caused conjestive heart failure, I was on dialysis for 11 months, Finally went to Cleveland Clinic .
Avatar f tn All these foods have a habit of irritating the stomach. try to avoid them and see if that helps. If not, go to the pharmacy and pick up some nexium and see if that helps.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis and gastroparesis. I have had about 7-8 diverticulitis attacks beginning in 2006. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis in Dec of 2013. I have been miserable with pain and nausea with these last two attacks which were a month apart. My doc prescribed Domperidone for the gastroparesis. I filled the prescription but before I could start taking it, I had another diverticulitis attack. I am currently taking flagyl and levaquin for the diverticulitis.
Avatar f tn check with ur local child education services as they should be able to ***** ur DD and get her treatment now...she will need speech and the gaging and choking is normal for those with GERD as they do not know how to use their tongues and move the food or make the shapes for the sounds for words....
Avatar f tn We have taken her to drs. they have done ultra sound, xray, blood work, hida scan they even put her on Nexium and the dr cant seem to find out what is wrong. The pain seems to get worse right after she eats. She vomits, she is in scrutiating pain which can last for hours. It doesn't matter what she eats or drinks the pain is always there. They have put her on phenegran and darvecit and the pain still is there. Could someone please give me the answers to what is wrong.
Avatar m tn The results were that he has an hiatal hernia and gastroparesis. He was directed to continue taking his Nexium and prescribed Reglan for the gastroparesis. The Bravo showed that he wasn't having reflux, the acid wasn't rising and reaching the Bravo at all. When he went in for a follow up visit he told his doctor that he was experiencing a lot of pressure and dizziness still. She switched him to Erythromycin which hasn't seemed to help either.
Avatar f tn Since month ago I been having a constant lump sensation on my throat that comes and go. I read It could be Gloubus Sensation" and the main causes are strees o GERD . I had an endoscopy about two weeks ago I was diagnosed with GERD , a little Heital Hernia, Duodenitis without bleeding and a Decreased Peristalsis in the Stomach suggestive of Gastroparesis. They also took me some biopsies but now I'm wating for the results in two weeks. The Dr.
Avatar f tn gastroparesis is a life changing condition that is hard to cope with and vary little options on helping it, i would disscus options with your doctor and eat smaller portions of food by giving your stomach that extra time it needs to digest.
Avatar f tn First and foremost, sorry to hear about your GP. Having it myself, I know what hell it can be at times. (Luckily, mine isn't too bad. I feel so incredibly bad for those who have it worse.) Unfortunately, Reglan is notorious for its side effects. If these are too much for you (and they sound like they are), ask the doctor to switch you to Domperidone. The drug is NOT available in the US, but is first-line treatment for GP pretty much all over the world.
409410 tn?1251072712 I went to the GI doc, they did an upper endoscopic test, I had inflammation of the esophagus (esophagitis) and a polyp (benign), so the doc started me on Nexium twice a day. They also did a gastric emptying test, in which they said I had borderline gastroparesis, so they gave me Reglan. I have been doing those two meds for six months now, along with everything else that I can do to ease the symtoms. And it doesn't look like things are getting any better, possibly worse.
Avatar m tn I was put on a gastroparesis diet and I got sicker. I ended up on a Celiac diet (gluten free) and I got better. I was on the diet for about 6 months. I just went last week to get tested again for gastroparesis and it came back 25% out of 35%. I am currently not having any problems with sickness but have gastroparesis. I first got sick due to contaminated well water and seem to get sick every time I get pregnant, weird.
Avatar n tn EBH is correct, celiac and gastroparesis can have very similar symptoms and it is important to have a correct diagnoses.
Avatar m tn Are there any exercises to help strengthen the LES? I've been using Nexium for a while now and it feels like acid is breaking through more and more often. I have a very mild case of gastroparesis, and will likely request the doctor prescribes Reglan, mostly to handle the heartburn. (I don't often get any other symptoms from the GP.) I've heard that Reglan can help strengthen the LES, but are there any exercises that can do the same?
Avatar f tn Hi Docter. Oct, 12 2009 I'm a 39 years old female in pain. I started having stomach problems three years ago. I was taking lexapro for P.M.S symptoms when I started having bloating, pain, bleaching, gas, spasms in my stomach, and feeling full after eating a few bites of food. A ultra sounds showed that I had gallstones.
Avatar f tn I truly believe he can do anything and i will pray for you and for myself and i wish you the best in finding some answers. I might also suggest you try accupunture.
Avatar f tn they did when i first had it diagnosed- somac and the nexium, both made me feel.. funny.. like food was staying in my stomach too long. so i stopped taking them.
1535467 tn?1342231670 I have been taking nexium, but it just stopped working.. which is why I received a abdominal ultrasound and EGD.. My doctor is claiming there is no guarentee that the hernia is causing my pain and that its the acid reflux.. Well why do I have a sharp pain in my stomach 90% of the day?!? He gave me the most powerful painkiller below narcotics.. and it conflicted with another medication so I cannot take it.
Avatar n tn I have been taking nexium for gastrits.for sometime. How long does it take to be effective? This discussion is related to Gastritis?.
Avatar m tn Hi Dr. Kini, Oct, 12 2009 Oct, 12 2009 I'm a 39 years old female in pain. I started having stomach problems three years ago. Avatar m tn Yet many people comment that taking strong acid reducers like proton pump inhibitors (Nexium, Protonix, omeprazole, etc.) or anti-histamines does not help. What people do not realize about GERD and proton pump inhibitors is that the drugs do not stop GERD, they merely decrease the amount of stomach acid produced (which can have other not-so-good effects over the long term, particularly in the elderly).
Avatar n tn I already had the endoscopy and nothing was found. I have GERD and that is what the Nexium was prescribed for. I do not have any "heartburn" whatsoever. A gastric emptying scan was also done and was negative. With all of those tests done I still have what I would basically describe as a “raw, hungry, slight nausea” feeling most of the time.
Avatar m tn A medical diagnosis and blood labs ruled out bacteria, and I was prescribed Nexium and placed on diet restrictions. None of it is working after a week of meds (taken exactly as prescribed) and the blandest foods (soda crackers, rice, cream of wheat, low fat cottage cheese, bread, watered down juice).
Avatar n tn She also was experiencing right lower and and right back back pain. She had her gallbladder and appendix out when she was 12 (the gallbladder had over 100 stones in it). She was released from the hopital three days ago with the diagnoses of yeast and bacterial vaginosis,a bladder infection due to an overgrowth of lactobacillis and GASTRITUS. she was put on pepsid (taken off the prevacid she has been on for 10 years due to a slight case of stomach gastritis) and they started her on carafate.
Avatar n tn That's a very good question. The problem isn't only medications, it's an understanding of these disorders. In 2002, for example, only about $2 million was spent for motility research, and very few, if any, research dollars were spent by the NIH on research for effective treatment options.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor and he recommended surgery (fundiplication) or take 1 nexium in am and i nexium in pm. Also, asthma is tied to GERD. I had a asthma test and I did have a mild case of asthma. I now take 2 nexium a day and 1/day Advair diskus. I now have no GERD. I am 5'5" and weigh 162lbs. I was told to lose 30 lbs and then my "valve" would start working again and I wouldn't need meds or surgery. OK I can lose the weight, but keep it off?
Avatar m tn first lets says its lunch time and your going to eat green beans and rice and water to wash it down, make sure thats all you eat and drink and nothing else, not even salad.
