Nexium and antibiotics

Common Questions and Answers about Nexium and antibiotics

nexium

Avatar f tn I am being treated for a urinary infections with both antibiotics (Cipro) and antivirals (valtrex) because the cause is unknown. My question is, is it safe to mix both medicines?
Avatar f tn Another recent post suggested that one should double check with the doctor and/or pharmacist because there is some data that says some antibiotics are more likely to cause trouble than others. My doctor said it (the concern) was mostly for IV drugs, but if I needed an antibiotic to come in for an ekg after a few doses. I'd be interested in anything you learn. I haven't needed an antibiotic for the year I've been on this drug, but who knows when I might?
Avatar n tn last year I had chest pain, flushed face and felt agitated, I was checked out I have early Barrets and a ulcer with HP, I completed a course of antibiotics and was put on Nexium, 6 months later I was feeling the return of chest pain , flushed face and felt agitated went back to the Dr and again had HP back I completed a 2 week course of antibiotics with Pepto bismal also Nexium.
Avatar n tn Pylori was ruled out they gave antibiotics and Nexium for couple of weeks. When it happened again after few years they put me on Nexium permanently and then even on Nexium I started getting pains for the past 8-9months and they did a series of tests again and couldn't find anything. Then we went to another GI specialist and he stopped my Nexium and then I had GI bleeding again. It is very rare to have a recurrent bleeding episode without any apparent cause except excessive acid.
Avatar n tn My 20-year-old son has had Gerd his whole life. He stopped his Nexium at 18 years old and has been OK. About four months ago he began having daily nausea. He has lost 10 to 15 pounds and has stabbing pain in his stomach. Vomits pretty much daily. Throughout the day it gets somewhat better. But chronic pain in his abdomen and extreme intermittent nausea. Have had several tests. Positive h pylori in blood. Treated one week quadruple therapy. Only to find stool test negative.
Avatar m tn In addition to Nexium you need to take a course of antibiotics and tylenol.
Avatar m tn ooo I know a girl (rachel) that might have the same problems you're having.. upper abdominal pain/upper back pain..nausea.. probably an ulcer, caused by h.ploryi. It's confirmed usually by a test or there's a not so accurate breath test. Usually treated with triple therapy antibiotics. Even though you're taking nexium, h. ploryi still can live and prosper in a stomach..so you probably need that blood test asap. Your primary doctor can order the test for you.
Avatar m tn I have been eating them for the past two months but now have just started to be affected in the past two weeks. My Dr. gave me Nexium yesterday but I wonder if I should have received some antibiotics instead. Now when I eat them I get massive cramps that are very painful and won't go away unless I take a few acidophilus pills. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I have not had a gastric bypass but I feel like I have. I tried Nexium daily for months and it did very little to nothing. Zantac, Omeprazole, Tums, complete change in diet.. none of these have helped. The pain doesn't come and go it is all the time but worse after eating. It is also worse if I skip eating. My diet cannot get any more correct for acid issues and I don't know what else to do. I'm also now broke after paying for this $1100 procedure that turned up zilch.
Avatar m tn After several months this infrequent chest pain, accompanied by bloating, sore stomach and not too much reflux has become very intrusive and the pain worse, often improved by some food! Could the Nexium be too powerful after time and be a trouble maker? has anyone experience, please? I have had "Pylori" test, endoscopy etc.

Avatar f tn I’m a 62 year old female, I was diagnosed with h pylori a few years ago and was treated with antibiotics. I have GERD and I’ve been taking nexium 40mg twice a day for about ten years, I also smoke. The past year I’ve been EXTREMELY bloated, it looks like I’m pregnant. I frequently have diarrhea and sometimes I puke up stomach acid. And for a few months these white smelly pieces come out of my mouth.
Avatar m tn They took swabs and they came back normal. They tried antibiotics and they are still there. They even gave me an inhaler and nothing. The pimples are still there. One ENT said, maybe I should have my tonsils taken out and the other ENT said, my tonsils were fine. These things just popped up over night and I can't get rid of them. They feel like sandpaper in the back of my throat and seem to flare up worse about a half hour after I eat.
Avatar n tn Hi, PPI like nexium are relatively safe medications. There are no reported serious longtime side effects with it though many are worried about osteoporosis it may cause. You may stop it and see hwo you feel. If symptoms recur you may continue with low does maintenance therapy. If you feel better even without it, you may stop it altogether. Since you have been diagnosed with H pylori infection also you need to treat it with appropriate antibiotics. The best thing to do is treat H.
Avatar m tn Hi, Im hoping to talk to a doctor about nexium. Im here on behalf of my girlfriend who recently started to take nexium for her stomach pains. She has been very hot at random times and has been nauseas at night. Her period was suppose to start yesterday but it has not yet and we are not sure as to why it has not. She had one episode of cramps this morning but it was very short and ended soon after.
Avatar n tn The active components in Nexium are esomprazole magnesium and in Prilosec are Omeprazole Magnesium. Also, Nexium comes in 20 mg and 40 mg capsules and Prilosec is sold over the counter in 20 mg tablets. My GI switched me to Nexium because Aciphex gave me terrible side effects and Protonix made my water brash symptoms ever worse. I have tried Prilosec in the past and it didn't have much of an effect for me.
Avatar m tn Hi...I am on Nexium and synthroid....can I take them together in the morning and hour before breakfast? I am supposed to take them both in AM. Thanks....
Avatar f tn I wouldn't take Nexium either without a diagnosis. Nexium suppresses stomach acid, so eventually your stomach will have to make more in order to digest protein and minerals. It becomes an ongoing chronic race between medication and the body's need to digest. But Nexium isn't for ulcers -- for an ulcer, they would give a potent antibiotic to kill the h. pylori. Nexium is for things such as IBS and GERD. The poster really needs a diagnosis in order to plan the next move.
Avatar m tn that you were on anyway right? if he or she knew you were on nexium and xanax and still prescribed it to you then it should be okay i guess. also the same for your doc. that prescribed you the nexium. sometimes you can find on certain websites like drugs.com or something how certain meds react with others.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm new to this site. I was recently diagnosed with GERD, and prescribed to nexium. Today is the 2 week mark of taking nexium. The only symptom I seem to get is really bad belching and it feels like there is a lump in my throat, those were the same symptoms I had when I was diagnosed. I had the same symptom for about a month before i went in. Maybe once or twice did I get heartburn or get an acidic taste in my mouth.
Avatar n tn My specialist said I have gastritis. He said I should take Prilosec for 8 months. He didn't say anything about antibiotics. Gastritis is caused by many things: Alcohol, NSAIDs, Helicobacter Pylori, Autoimmune Disorder. The only one that makes sense for my case is Helicobacter Pylori. (Unless Autoimmune Disorder is somehow related to food allergies.) Pylori is a bacteria that is resistant to stomach acid. Taking Prilosec would only make it even more hard to kill.
1201626 tn?1265421975 Well, your H.pylori infection needs to be treated, the doc should have given you some antibiotics to clear it up. It can be stubborn, so you may have to go thru another round of medicines for that. But if they got rid of the H.pylori infection, then the Nexium isn't doing its job of soothing the tummy, and therefore you either need stronger medicines or may need to have surgery to remove the ulcer. So you have to visit your doc to find out what to do next.
Avatar f tn I have had gerd plus a hiatal hernia for years. I take nexium and have for at least ten years. Now I am told I have iron defiency anemia. Reading through the insert that comes with nexium it appears this drug could cause the anemia. Has anybody experienced this?
Avatar f tn Every now and then i get sick and continuously throw up and the pain is horrible. Ive been to two doctors and both of them have done many test and are still cluless. Im going onto my third doctor now and I just want to get better and if i can find any sickness that seems to have thes symptoms to maybe tell the doctor, that would be great. So if you have SOD and these symptoms all seem familiar or if you know a sickness that has these symptoms PLEASE PLEASE tell me.
Avatar n tn I already had the endoscopy and nothing was found. I have GERD and that is what the Nexium was prescribed for. I do not have any "heartburn" whatsoever. A gastric emptying scan was also done and was negative. With all of those tests done I still have what I would basically describe as a “raw, hungry, slight nausea” feeling most of the time.
Avatar n tn The usual meds (Tagamet and Nexium) did nothing for me. The docs suspected a stomach ulcer (which is usually treated with antacid meds and a combination of antibiotics, but also takes time to heal) or a reflux disorder. I still don't have a diagnosis, but the endoscopy did tell the docs that it wasn't an ulcer, hernia, abscess or other infection.
362971 tn?1201987034 There is a lot of misinformation from that particular source and note that no studies are cited only "observation". I took both antibiotics and Nexium (twice a day) for much of treatment and am now SVR. As to the ADs listed, many here have taken them and are also SVR. Off the treatment drugs viral load can fluctuate up and down, sometimes wildly, so it's really almost impossible to say what if any outside factors -- such as drugs -- causes that.
