Do you ever take antacids besides these 2 occasions when you got diarrhea? Because antacids can cause diarrhea and if you are having loose stools and you are asleep, it can leak.

From what my hepatologist told me was that nexium and prevacid were Proton pump inhibitors and not the same as over the counter antacids which should be taken at least two hours before the Riba.

t suffered GERD and LPR (suffered both severely for 5 years) since stopping ALL acid blockers and antacids and taking digestive enzyme supplements (to help digest foods) and betaine HCI with pepsin supplements (to increase stomach acid). I have had this since the beginning of tx, but is is extremely painful and worse now. My doc has prescribed Levsin and Nexium. Nexium makes my joints hurt, so I stopped taking it. Does anyone know of anything I can do or take to make me able to exist w/out pain and GI inflamation? Thanks in advance.

is this going to be a kr@p situation or what? but those articles were mainly referencing to antacids, and Gas-X isn't an antiacid. and according to a friend doc of mine, he told me that simethicone is only used in the GI tract and won't go in the blood. maybe should ask the hepa during my next visit. what do you guys think?

I tried Tums and those other wonderful OTC antacids too...no help. My OB gave me a script for Nexium...it has an expensive co-pay $45 for a 30 day supply......it is worth every penny!!!!!! Good luck!

I ate more meat, food rich in fiber and psyllium fiber. My stool are now formed and soft in my first Po-Poh in the morning and after 30 min, my second po-Poh is watery again. What causes this? Is this anxiety related? Should I continue taking antacids?

I have been able to manage it pretty well with meds and watching what I eat. Last Saturday I decided to walk on the wild side and take meds and then eat a piece of pizza. I made sure to follow it up with some over the counter antacids and milk. But around 3:30 in the morning the pain and the puking started. This time however my back pain and puking was so severe that I had to go to the ER. (I started puking pile for about 4 hours before I went into the ER).

gastritis let to my Hep C dx but I have never been able to link both conditions. Have had great HepC blood work (enzymes,VL ect...) during very bad gastritis and very mild gastritis symptoms during upflare of HepC..... Have been UND for 30wks on tx now and it has no impact on my gastritis. BTW , acid blockers don`t work for me either but Carafate did, with the added bonus that it only gets minimally absorbed in the bloodstream and therefore is no additional burden on the liver.

Agree with Selma. Make sure you exercise with an empty or fairly empty stomach. Try not to bend over after you eat. Eat slowly by chewing thoroughly. Don't wear tight clothes around the middle. Don't sit too long without getting up for a bit. Watch out for alcohol, caffeine, tomato sauce, spicy and acidic foods, and chocolate which all can aggravate things. It's good that your endoscope is clear.

I suppose Nexium 40mg and Zantac 150mg each day that I was taking are considered either PPI and/or H2RA? Those are what I was instructed to stop 5-7 days prior to the test. Thank you!

I have been to my PCP and he took a swab and gave me Cipro. The swab was negative and the Cipro did nothing. He sent me to see a ENT and he put me on a throat spray and still nothing. I saw a second ENT and he had no idea what it was or what was causing it. Any ideas ?

If you are taking an extreme amount of these antacids and it must be extreme then you could be having a minimal side effect of the antacids. Continue blaming your thyroid disease and get your levels checked. Did you know taking antacids will deminish the Synthroid meds you are on? Which means if you are popping antiacids with your thyroid meds that could be canceling out the T4 conversion to T3 which alternately will elavate your TSH. Simply put- you will be Hypo.

It started about a month ago. I just started burping like NONE stop. I had severe pain in my upper abdomen for about 2 to 3 days. I've taken nexium, prilosec, antacids, NOTHING worked. Though the pain is gone ( comes back from time to time) I just can't stop burping. I even feel like puking sometimes. ( NO I am NOT pregnant) I don't get a funny taste in my mouth either. Though sometimes it does almost make me puke to where I need to quick swallow. I know, gross.

Ice cream - 1 to 2 cups of ice cream and my bile reflux disappeared almost like antacids made acid reflux disappear. Within 20 minutes (no lying down) I was totally over my bile reflux ... and I'm enjoying a cup of coffee right now. Half an hour ago I thought I was off to the emergency again - where they have no help for bile reflux. Any flavour seems to work - frozen yoghurt doesn't. Thank gawd !!

In fact, a better choice than antacids -- assuming your condition is chronic -- would be a PPI like Nexium or a H-2 Blocker like Zantac or Pepcid AC. Both of which can be taken without regard to the ribavirin. Ask your doc. Liver specialists and GI's should know what is best for you. As to the other, Tylenol appears to be the most recommeded pain killer on treatment but again, ask your doc how much is safe to take.

I take nexium everyday for heartburn and that helps with the stomach pain but not the pain to the left under my rib. It comes after I eat but does not wake me up at night.

In late November (during period of intense stress from approaching Law School finals and other life worries) I got some recurring sharp pains in the evening accompainied by a general sense of weakness that after a few hours led me to go to the emergency room.
