Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin tolerance

neurontin

1134609 tn?1269272200 I was taking a look at Lyrica, but we're going to stay away from it because of the weight gain side effect. I just dumped 50 of the 100lbs, I gained from Celexa and, because obesity runs rampant in both sides of my family, I am desperate to avoid this. I'm not over-exaggerating; 100lbs in the space of a few years; all while working out like a madman and watching my calories..
570190 tn?1216923314 I am struggling bad here. I am not feeling relief for nerve pain in my back anymore with the meds! I am currently only taking neurontin for pain. I was tired of taking narcotics due to the side effects. Plus I have 2 young children that need be to be coherent! Anyways, I have been on neurontin for a month and a half now. I went and saw the spine specialist and I explained to him that I must be building a tolerance to the neurontin seeing that it wasn't working for me.

318073 tn?1197565324 I have been diagnosed with fibro over a year ago and take numerous herbs and they tried cymbalta which I stopped cause it made me hyper and nausias now he gave me neurontin which I have not taken yet. Has anyone tried this med yet. Has anyone else developed a b12 defiency also.
1134609 tn?1269272200 We've got a good tapering schedule down for the Klonopin and it shouldn't be too rough, I'm on a small dose and have only been using it for six months. It's just getting me 'stoned' and neither of us feel that it's necessary. It's just too addictive, at the very least, I'd like to be on a smaller dose. I don't mind the Neurontin, but I develop a tolerance to it quickly and have to continually up the dose.
Avatar f tn Please be careful with using Neurontin... my husband who is addicted to opiates has become addicted to the Neurontin as well. It may sound silly, and I don't have a ton of knowledge on drugs and such, but you can find and read countless forums with people talking about how they abuse the drug, and the horrible withdrawals they go through when running out of it.
9704730 tn?1405741284 Hello I have a question about neurontin. I recently stopped taking tramadol after 13 years. I had a very difficult time doing so. I stopped Dec 6. My doctor put me on neurontin but I think I am now having withdrawal symptoms from neurontin. I have been taking about 900 mg a day since September. It gives me a lot of side effects such as drowsiness and the inability to think quickly.
1036706 tn?1252827906 Hey everyone...i need to get some opinions on the oxycontin!! Has anyone noticed hair loss?? I am shedding like a cat!! Also i think i may be totally ADDICTED to this ****! I take 20mg 3xday. I also take neurontin for the pain as well. I also suffer from severe depression & anxiety. I take meds for that and I cant sleep without Ambien. So I feel like I am doomed in the worst way! Can anyone give me a shout with some advice???
Avatar m tn On august 1st, I quit suboxone at 8mg, I had been taking ALOT of neurontin aka gabapentin during the withdrawal to help with symptoms, I was taking around 6,000 to 7,000 mg a day, somedays even 10,000mg but that amount was very rare.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Neurontin for what they are thinking are overactive nerves. I had an injury 2 years ago and am still in pain and they think it's from the nerves not having settled or still being irritated. The doc said this was the safest med he prescribes. I don't like medicine.
Avatar f tn Having no insurance, I have had to wait for over a month, making due with ibuprofen, lidoderm5% patches, and neurontin (the neurontin does not seem to help, despite titration). I was finally listed as 'urgent' in their computers, despite my financial restraints. Any ideas what to expect when I go? What questions to ask?
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed Neurontin for menapausal symptoms of night sweats, really bad inosomnia and restless leg syndrome. 200 mg nightly worked nicely for 2 weeks. Then it didn't do a thing so doctor increased it to 300-400 mg per night. I tried to stick to 300 mg but after 48 hours without sleep and feeling like I as losing my mind, I caved and took 400. That worked but now isn't. I take it, feel weak and exhuasted but can't sleep.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed oxycodone 30mg 5x daily, neurontin 400mg 2x day, kadian 30mg 2x day for chronic lyme disease, 4 herniated discs, pinched nerves, & also had partial laminectomy in 2004 L5-S1. I've been taking them so long my tolerance to the meds is so high they do nothing for my pain. I want to stop taking the meds but I can't do the withdraw. I've heard suboxone is used to get off meds and prevent withdraw but I also heard suboxone is addictive too.
620877 tn?1282764097 For those of you who take Gabapentin (Neurontin): Just curious what side effects you have experienced (and at what dosage), and how long they lasted? I just started this last weekend, 300mg once a day at bedtime. I am having a really hard time waking up in the morning and for the first half of the day I feel a little "loopy" or my head feels "swimmy"....if that makes any sense.....
684676 tn?1503186663 It just caused me more wds. I would take about 2400mgs at a time. Took a long time to create the tolerance. I would just be highly aware if you decide to take it. Coming up on my refill and am staying away from it.
Avatar m tn To have withdrawal symptoms for any medication, you first have to have developed a tolerance to that medication. This takes time. Tolerance is defined as by decline in efficacy, meaning that a dose that was effective for a long time stopped working, and an increase in medication improved the situation. Tolerance takes time. Perhaps you are having a side effect to the medication??
874521 tn?1424116797 I've been on 1800 mg neurontin for 4-5yrs now...but its no longer working as it once did..and I have been using 2100mg (on my own) for a few weeks now but think I need even higher dose...so will mention to my doctor when I get rx refilled. My question is: Is there anyone that has been on this med for a long time and at a high dose? And what are the side effects of long term high doses? (other than the generically silly ones they give on some sites)...I want PERSONAL experiences..
Avatar n tn But if you still have anxiety maybe you should switch to klonopin, that what I did. 1200mg neurontin 1mg klonopin 20 mg lexapro, every morning and 600mg neurontin and 1mg klonopin in the eve. Neurontin has shown to be a mood stabilizer and good for anxiety. It helps...
5597890 tn?1370629516 ve had 2 very severe heart attacks back to back. C.O.P.D . Peripheral Neuropathy. Also, would Neurontin help withdrawal?
10996785 tn?1432812977 I was prescribed 2400 mgs of Neurontin a day, 200mgs+ of Trazodone and then 25mgs of Nortripyline after my small stroke in late November. I was taking 22 pills a day when I came home in early September. When I went in it was only a few for my BP. Well after months and months of over the top anxiety with blurred vision and balance issues with confusion, concentration, and reasoning problems I threw up my hands and said enough. I have now begun to realize what they were doing to me.
Avatar f tn Is there anyone on here that would be able to answer a few questions for me regarding Neurontin? I did read a few of the older posts and articles on here which actually lead me to have more questions. I'm kind of wondering if maybe I am under dosed based on what I have read. (I have had this issue with other meds with my neuro). I also have some questions regarding missed doses and I can't seem to find any clear answers in the literature. Thanks.
