The latter is an anticonvulsant/anti-epileptic also used in pain management, particularly for neuropathic pain. Its
mechanism of action involves suppressing the formation
of new synapses between nerves (not by activating the GABA receptor, as was previously thought). It generally creates a sensation of numbness or dullness where there was pain earlier.
Both should help, but be careful about the side effects, which can include drowsiness, slowed reactions, and such.
