Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin insomnia

neurontin

Avatar f tn s like am swallowing sand instead of salvia. Not sure if the Cymbalta works or not. I take Neurontin 9 times a day. The Neurontin makes me feel tired and messes with my memory. Just what FM people need to have right along with Fibro Fog. I think the doctors are just messing with us on the Meds.
Avatar f tn s an addictive drug and interferes with REM sleep and over the long term will leave you with a benzo problem and rebound insomnia. And Neurontin is very sedating. Clonazepam targets GABA receptors; neurontin is GABA. It should be better for sleep than clonazepam, but people do react differently. Anything bugging you? Ever seen a therapist to see if your sleep problem can be fixed rather than medicated?
Avatar n tn I went through a bout of insomnia last spring, before I was diagnosed. Well, I'm not really sure it was insomnia, but I couldn't sleep for more than 2-3 hours at a time, because my symptoms would intensify the longer I was lying down or even just reclining. (My symptoms have always shown an odd dependence on my posture.) I'd wake up in unpleasant states, with a lot of sensory symptoms and other discomforts, and then wouldn't be able to get back to sleep for hours more.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Neurontin for what they are thinking are overactive nerves. I had an injury 2 years ago and am still in pain and they think it's from the nerves not having settled or still being irritated. The doc said this was the safest med he prescribes. I don't like medicine.

1415174 tn?1453243103 How do you taper off of Neurontin? I have gone so far from 900 mg a day to 500mg a day. 200 per week then 100 a week now. Is that too slow? I have gotten insomnia, anxiety and general not feeling good and even increase in back pain. Is the last few hundred much harder?
1134609 tn?1269272200 That's a very unusual side effect as although Lamictal disrupted my sleep which is not uncommon lithium was actually sedating for me. See if that improves with time and keep track of it on a daily basis as well.
Avatar n tn I'm no expert but I think it must be mental. I don't think Neurontin is addictive. Maybe I'm wrong. I would think the insomnia is related to something else and the Neurontin has nothing to do with it. I took Seroquel for a short period of time for insomnia and it worked great and was easy to stop taking when I was done. Hope this helps.
9704730 tn?1405741284 Hello I have a question about neurontin. I recently stopped taking tramadol after 13 years. I had a very difficult time doing so. I stopped Dec 6. My doctor put me on neurontin but I think I am now having withdrawal symptoms from neurontin. I have been taking about 900 mg a day since September. It gives me a lot of side effects such as drowsiness and the inability to think quickly.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with "noodle leg" today. Have had MS since 2006 on Neurontin & Mobic not really working, by my PCP, any suggestions please. I'm dragging my left leg now, its turning inward, pain, numbness & tingling, weakness. I'm falling more as well. Pain in shoulders, arms & hands as well. Terrible insomnia.
Avatar f tn It is sedating and thus frequently prescribed for sleep for those who have insomnia with anxiety/depression. You can take during the day but it is sedating and you should use with care until you know it's daytime effects. Let me know how you make out if you decide to use it. Has your neurologist ever recommended neurontin or lyrica?
Avatar n tn received massive blow to head 18 months ago have been on several meds to enable to sleep and for chronic migraines am currently taking neurontin memory has improved some since accident however now i can be driving to work or elsewhere and will forget where i am going for 15 or 20 miles at a time does anyone have any experience with this medicine im not sure if its helping or making things worse,
9704730 tn?1405741284 I know at the beginning the neurontin took away the worst symptoms of insomnia and creepy crawling skin that kept me from sitting still. I am not sure if that would still be there without the neurontin. I am also very afraid to stay on the neurontin. I don't want to have a withdrawal from that.
Avatar f tn My doctor is having me go off it and take neurontin instead. I have fibermygalia neuropathy 2 fractures in back. He wants me to take 100 mg neurontin and 100 mg trazadone for three nights. I am doing it slower. Is it normal to feel funny sweaty and shaky during the day? I am having a hard time functioning.
2097395 tn?1333262190 but i am taking 5 pills at a time 3 times a day. i tried to go without but i get insomnia, panic feeling, pain level is heightened. i called the pharmacy, didn't tell him who i was just that i had some questions, he said that its not addicting. then why am i feeling this way. my tolerance is increasing what do i do,how do i get off this evil drug.
Avatar f tn Hello, Both Prozac and Neurontin cause insomnia rather than increased sleepiness. It can be due to not getting enough sleep, drug, alcohol, or cigarette use, lack of physical activity, obesity, the use of certain medication, depression, restless legs syndrome, sleep apnea, or narcolepsy. You need to get it evaluated from a sleep specialist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn I have had some breakthrough panic attacks recently, but I am still pretty much under control with Celexa. (and Neurontin at night.) Klonopin helped with everything including the chronic insomnia. I still have sleep issues, but not too bad. I took the Klonopin with Effexor originally. Had to get off Effexor because of the insomnia. Celexa seems better for me. I have a couple days a month when I have General anxiety usually leading to a panic attack.
600857 tn?1230057770 Please do not worry about Neurontin. I have taken it for a long time and at twice the dose your at. I have not had one problem from it and it does work on my nerve pain. I have had absolutely no side effects even from the increases I've had. In my opinion, it is a completely safe drug. If you have any douts about it then Google "Neurontin Side Effects" it should give you a really good indepth look at the drug.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I've relapsed again, as I have posted in the past. However, I seem to be getting better, my doc upped my Lamictal from 200mgs to 225mgs. It's been rough, over the past few weeks, I have been a human guinea pig. We've been trying various medications and they've all caused me more problems. Lithium agitated the heck out of me and Seroquel started to make me cycle harder.
Avatar m tn As you already know, it usually takes several weeks of the really nasty symptoms of acute withdrawal, followed by several months of just insomnia and general weakness and depression. A physician may be able to prescribe you some Neurontin (gabapentin) for general malaise, anxiety and muscle cramps, Requip for the restless leg syndrome and possibly something like Seroquel low dose for the insomnia.
Avatar m tn See if your doctor can write you a prescription for some Requip for restlessness (it is the very best treatment for RLS or RAS), Neurontin for anxiety and malaise, some Flexeril or Soma for a few weeks for muscle spasms and maybe some Seroquel low dose, for sleep. It will make your withdrawals easier. Valerian and Magnesium is sometimes helpful remedies over the counter. The residual symptoms of insomnia and depression can last another few months.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I have had visual disturbances after going up to 900mg of Neurontin.I was on 300mg Neurontin for 4 years and then the 900 mg for 6 months. It is like an aura or wavy moving lines that last about a half hour and are in each eye. Has anyone had this from Neurontin (or Celebrex). I am tapering off of Neurontin for that reason and would like your opinion as to how to get off of it will less side effects. I am at 500mg now per day.
Avatar f tn His dr has put him on a high dosage of fentanyl, as well as dilaudid for breakthrough pain. He takes 2 two mg. xanax for insomnia. He is prescribed 2 four mg. dilaudid daily. I recently learned he was injecting the dilaudid. I am extremely concerned and feel helpless. He was a drug addict for many years, but was clean 15 years prior to transplant. I want to know what this drug use now is doing to his liver, even though the liver function test are O.K.
1088430 tn?1259159773 I'm being treated for chronic headaches/migraines.4yr history, only within last 6 months went back to neurologist to seek MD help again after MANY pro-active "natural" then OTC methods had failed.(4yrs ago several CT's/MRI's, then arterialgram ruled out a possible AVM or any other serious cause) Other than aboritive Relpax or Imitrex, was started on combo of Lyrica/Amitriptaline(?) Topamax ruled out due to "nerve" symptoms he said it wouldn't help.
Avatar n tn There are a few other meds that could possibly help...one of them being Neurontin. Talk to your doc about it....Other than that, I used a heating pad that wrapped around my legs for that wanting to move constantly feeling...it helped some...not alot, but some. Valium will not help for this.
Avatar f tn Hi, The affordable alternatives to Lyrica are -Neurontin ,Topamax and Cymbalta. Since you have had no relief from Topamax, you can try the other two . if still you feel no better ,please consult your neurologist to suggest an alternative.Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
