neurontin

2097395 tn?1333262190 Actually, Neurontin has been found, in the case of treating mood disorders, to be more effective when taken in higher doses. Your dose isn't outrageously high. However, you are clearly having some issues, with the memory, and other things,. You need to discuss all of this with your doctor. You may need to be switched to another med. Don't EVER make any changes to your regimen without consulting your doctor. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn I had an elderly neighbor prescribed this for shingles pain. But if you are concerned about side effects of the medicine, you might look into a different approach for the management of the nerve pain, like acupuncture and suggest your mother in law might try it if she hasn't already. If she doesn't want to be on the medicine, she shouldn't go off it without the knowledge and guidance of her physician on how to do it safely.
600857 tn?1230057770 Hi there. I hate to be the voice of dissent here, but i had a terrible experience with neurontin. Granted, my doctor told me i'd been put on too much and it had become toxic. But i had a ton of weird problems, some of which are still with me today (about 8 years later). But it seems like most folks do fine -- and i'm notoriously sensisitve to a lot of meds. Still, if you notice strange thoughts looping in your head or begin to stutter...
6937315 tn?1386287618 Hi there Tammy! I remember your situation from the other forum. Is the doctor taking you off the Xanax completely, or just trying to keep you comfortable until your next script in two weeks? Neurontin can be helpful in some cases, but honestly I've seen it used more as a way to treat depression than anxiety. Is your doc a psychiatrist? If not, you may want to ask for a referral to one. They are really the best people to deal with these kinds of medication issues.
Avatar m tn Another thought- has he been eating solid foods or is he only taking in liquids? If he has only been taking in non-solid food, this could wind up causing bulk not to form in stools.
Avatar n tn Are the blood blisters in the arms and legs of some elderly a vitamin or mineral deficiency? If so, what will help? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/242890'>blood blisters</a>.
Avatar f tn I currently take about 4-5 Norcos per day for a very long time. I can get by on 3 but it can be difficult. Can I take Neurotin in place of the Norcos? Most of what Iv'e read says that the Neurotin is not addictive like the Norcos. If this will work, how long will I have to take the Neurotin?
Avatar f tn Hi. 5'10" Gent, and brand spankin newbie to this site. i just turned 56 in April. In my journal August. 12, 2013, I recorded wgt. 247.5 lb, BP 157/101, severe depression & anxiety with heaart palpitations and mid-nightime panic attacks. Also using CPAP setting of 14cm for severe sleep apnea, and suffered almost daily migraines. Plus my triglicerides were, as my dr put it, "through the roof!
Avatar n tn We would appreaciate any and all thoughts and comments on Lyrica and/or Cymbalta in the elderly (oh, how she would cringe to be referred to as elderly..) especially examples good or bad and also any alternatives to that type of drug therapy. My Mom has scheduled an "emergency" doctor's appt. for her this coming Thursday (6/19.
Avatar f tn Hi, Lyrica is 'pregabalin', a different chemical from Neurontin, or 'gabapentin'. They are similar in function though; they both bind -to and inhibit the same neuronal structure-- a voltage-gated calcium channel. Both medications reduce the flow of calcium into certain nerve terminals; the calcium would normally trigger the release of the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate, or Substance P, a chemical involved in pain transmission.
Avatar f tn s not a very well known or acknowledge side effect of neurontin, but it can sometimes cause an increase in eye pressure (glaucoma). I was one of the "lucky" ones that had this happen to. I had been on it for a while and went to my eye doc for a routine exam - my eye pressures were quite elevated - in going over my medications, he told me about this possible connection, so I contacted the physician that had prescribed the neurontin.
Avatar f tn I have many issues with my back including 5 surgerys and I have also taken Neurontin. It has not been effective in my teatment for pain but it has been effctive for my nerve issues. Good luck with everything.....
1310035 tn?1305621642 Neurontin (brand name for gabapentin) helps with nerve pain. It is very commonly used in MS. Another med for this purpose is Lyrica. If one doesn't work or the side efffects are too much, then the other can be tried, but the two are very similar. Hope this helps.
9704730 tn?1405741284 Hello I have a question about neurontin. I recently stopped taking tramadol after 13 years. I had a very difficult time doing so. I stopped Dec 6. My doctor put me on neurontin but I think I am now having withdrawal symptoms from neurontin. I have been taking about 900 mg a day since September. It gives me a lot of side effects such as drowsiness and the inability to think quickly.
Avatar f tn Well, I finally got my prescription filled and it is Neurontin. has anyone taken this?? I looked it up, but would love to hear from anyone who has taken it before I take it tonight. Reading about it kind of freaked me out....
Avatar f tn I was taking neurontin 300mg/3x a day. It was working fairly well for about 3 weeks, then started not working...they thought I needed a higher dose, but then my old doctor told me it was all in my head and took me off all meds! It did make me tired and actually made me a little depressed. So while I was taking it my doctor put me on Cymbalta to kind of counter act the depression. Which made me even more tired.
Avatar f tn Please make sure to let them know you're taking neurontin when you go for your drug test. My foster child is in juvenile drug court and just "failed" a drug test for amphetamines, which he denied taking; when they further analyzed the sample, it was 2 ingredients in DayQuil I had given him for a cold that caused a false positive. He was treated as "guilty until proven innocent" so please let them know just in case so you don't go through a similar situation.
Avatar n tn Neurontin acts on the GABA receptors in the nervous system. GABA is the inhibitory neurotransmitter, that is, (very simplistically), it turns down the effects of the other stimulatory neurotransmitters. The benzos, (valium, Klonopin, etc also act on GABA). Alcohol also promotes GABA's numbing effects & it's likely that some people who like this effect of alcohol may experience similar sensations from Neurontin.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Neurontin for what they are thinking are overactive nerves. I had an injury 2 years ago and am still in pain and they think it's from the nerves not having settled or still being irritated. The doc said this was the safest med he prescribes. I don't like medicine.
Avatar f tn Neurontin is not really geared for the direct neck pain. Neurontin is for the pain that radiates in the limbs. I was told this by two doctors and I did try it anyways. I have very severe neck pain. Is this something they can surgically fix? If it is, then I would be looking for a good neurosurgeon asap. It may not take care of the pain, but it will stop from the progressing damage that may occur. Your injury is at a very dangerous level. Good luck with the spinal tap today.
Avatar f tn Looking for people's experiences with Neurontin 1) in general and 2) specifically if its helpful for withdrawal. The poll is for people's experiences using Neurontin during withdrawal - not necessarily FOR withdrawal but just if you used during. lso let me know if you feel like it, what it actually helped with. If you have other experiences with it, please comment on this post and let me know. I was prescribed it weeks ago for facial pain, but I havent filled it.
Avatar f tn My Dr and I discussed putting me on Lyrica (which I was on a few years ago, but stopped taking, don't recall why) and I called my pharmacist because she told me about the huge side effect of weight gain with Lyrica, it's almost guaranteed, and my pharmacist told me that Lyrica is a dirivative of Neurontin, which has a much lower incidence of weight gain, and they are nearly the same medications. I then decided to go on Neurontin instead.
