974371 tn?1424653129 Has anyone taken this for IBS? Saw a doctor at Stanford yesterday fir a second opinion. I had been tested by another specialist I had rapid gastric emptying and was put on Prozac and low dose Clonidine. Can't say I noticed much of a difference in lower abdominal pain, bloating, stomach pain and nausea.
318073 tn?1197565324 I suffer with Fibromyalgia, Sjogrens, RA, Restless Leg, IBS and I really believe the neurontin is great. I believe it helps with nerve related pain such as neropathy. Give it a try for about six weeks and see how you feel. If you take it a night it may help you sleep better. Try not to take it during the day because it will probably make you sleepy, and if your like me you need to sleep at night rather than off an on during the day.
1699346 tn?1306931126 I also tried neurontin for my nerve pain in my head after surgery.....it seemed to help that some just in calming the nerves...but I gained about 14 lbs in like 2 or 3 months....and now that I read selma's post it probably made my IBS worse also.....so glad I stopped!!
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to MedHelp. I also take percocet along with neurontin (gabapentin). The gabapentin is very similar to lyrica. I drink coffee 4-5 days per week and I haven't encountered any issues and I have been on percocet for almost a year and gabapentin for almost 2 years. I don't think there are any severe reactions when coffee is mixed with percocet or lyrica or both.
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else been prescribed neurontin for headaches? My neurologist said that MRI was fine other than a small venous angioma and seemed to think my headaches (continuous for two months) are caused by neck and muscle problems. He put me on neurontin which has greatly improved my headaches but I've already gained six pounds in three weeks. Besides that I feel like I'm in a fog, forgetful, and generally kind of "duh huh" feeling. I can't take Topomax because of glaucoma.
Avatar f tn because I was on gabapentin the generic of neurontin and it did cause issues with my IBS and my gastro dr said I should not have been put on it by my sleep clinic dr. I also suggest u find a NS that is a chiari specialist...I think u will see a differenc in ur care.
Avatar n tn Same goes with Neurontin the generic is Gabapentin, I was on this it did nothing for me but affect my IBS issues so I got off it.....again we r all different I am on Topamax for 3 yrs now and doing fine as long as I stay on a low dose. Make sure u get more testing to rule out the related issues and go from there, research chiari specialists, and try to get with one.
Avatar f tn I take 300mg Neurontin at night for Migraine prevention and have gained 5 pounds on it over the course of 6 weeks. I hope that that the weight gain will taper off.
974371 tn?1424653129 I have not heard of Prozac(fluoxetine) being used for treatment of IBS. Citalopram(Celexa), Paroxetine(Paxil) are the 2 we're familiar with prescribing here in Upstate NY.....However, Paroxetine has some nasty side effects..... And I've not heard of Neurontin being used for IBS either.....I agree the dietary changes are a better bet to manage symptoms.....
Avatar f tn I know people have taken neurontin for hydro w/d's and it helped,I wonder if it would work for tramadol w/d's.Has anyone ever tried it?
564491 tn?1320360393 I have tried almost every medication and procedure recommended. I am now taking Neurontin, and am wondering if anyone takes Neurontin, what dosage has been helpful, and if it has made a difference in the condition of your headaches/migraines. Thanks so much.
700067 tn?1332989283 I've never been diagnosed with IBS issues, but I do have them. I am scared to eat out anymore because just as soon as we get in the car to head back I am overcome with cramps and have to pull over at a gas station. Sometimes it's diarrhea, sometimes nothing. The cramps are horrible, though, no matter what I eat. I've tried dairy-free, gluten-free...lots of fiber. I never know if it's going to be constipation or diarrhea. I hate it when I'm out with my kids and it happens.
459075 tn?1224121598 I have been on the neurontin for over 3 months now so i dont really think it could be a side effect from that. Anyone got any advise?

Avatar f tn I saw a Nurologist today who prescribed Gabapentin for Degenerative disc Disease. I was informed that surgery was out of the question because it was over a large area, wasn't very helpful and didn't really expalin why i was prescribed it. i was also prescribed amitriptyline for the night time.
1551327 tn?1514045867 Gapapentin and neurontin are same. What pharmacist told me they are ok for month or so. But long term definitely addictive. Its for nerve pain. Personally i found out they messed my head up like crazy and caused massive weight gain. Just ask pharmacist.
1472677 tn?1330175915 I went through almost every test there is to take and nothing. All they say IBS. I think not and I feel srongly that there is something else for the Robotic surgery is new. Why does my stomach not hurt at seven in the morning and hurts real bad at eight EVERY morning. I am very fed up and I really do not know what to do. I tried everything. Please can anuyone make sense of this for what I think everyone will think I am nuts. I feel I was used as a guiny pig.
Avatar f tn I am so sorry for your pain. I have taken Neurontin and it really did nothing for my pain but there are also some people that it has changed their lifes so it really depends on the person. A few people on here take it and it works great for them so I am hoping they will reply to your post. Plus the side effects for me was really bad, I couldn't handle them, my nerve dr wanted me to take 1800mg a day and there was no way I could handle the side effects of that high of a dose.
Avatar f tn Looking for people's experiences with Neurontin 1) in general and 2) specifically if its helpful for withdrawal. The poll is for people's experiences using Neurontin during withdrawal - not necessarily FOR withdrawal but just if you used during. lso let me know if you feel like it, what it actually helped with. If you have other experiences with it, please comment on this post and let me know. I was prescribed it weeks ago for facial pain, but I havent filled it.
Avatar f tn s not a controlled substance. Neurontin can work great for sciatic pain so hopefully it helps you get some relief.
630344 tn?1280104983 I'm taking the generic form, just recently resumed but have used it in the past. Neurontin is Rx-ed for nerve pain as an "off label" use, that it, treating nerve pain is not the function for which it was designed so it's not listed as a use on the manufacturer's label. It is actually an anti-seizure med, but it was found to also reduce neuropathy in patients. It is my understanding that Lyrica works much in the same way, and is a newer medication by the same company.
1207048 tn?1282174304 I was on gabapentin (neurontin) 900mg 3 times daily for approx. 2 years... it works wonders for neuropathetic pain I was taking it along with 100mg of Lyrica 3 times daily. WhenI had my gastric bypass surgery in December I came off the neurontin and stayed only on the Lyrica. I agree with the others try it... just remember to give it a chance it won't work overnight.
