Avatar m tn Prescribed 100 MG of Lyrica twice a day and Elavil 25 mg at night. Dr. said can take Elavil during the day for pain..Can't function.. What is another drug besides Elavil that will help with pain and not cause terrible side efforts?
1278070 tn?1276224405 hey, im on neurontin too, with me it wasn't working so my dose was going up and up im now on 5000ml a day ive been on this dose for 3yrs now i have no pain at all now .
1100837 tn?1267668675 Now wants me to get off of Elavil 25mg and Adderal 15mg. Doctor says take the Neurontin for sleep. The Elavil works best for pain, but I can hardly get up in the mornings and it has made me gain 10 plus pounds and counting. I take Clonapin 0.5mg twice a day. Getting off the Elavil, I am having cold feet and hands and a very unsettling feeling and absolutley no energy. Is this withdraw and how long do i suffer?
1221035 tn?1301000508 year ago I was given neurontin while on other medications and experienced swollen feet. I told the Doctor and they took me off it and I never had that problem again.
382218 tn?1341181487 I'm wondering about this because I usually have no problems with meds that cause others many side effects. In particular, nothing seems to make me very drowsy. Elavil, for the first little while, but nothing major. Neurontin - well I was up to 3600mg/day, the maximum dose, and it never ever made me sleepy. Others here have reported problems at only 100 - 300mg/day. I'm now experimenting with Lyrica; coming off the Neurontin slowly and going up on the Lyrica.
Avatar f tn Well, I the doctor said to just go off of the elavil and go on Cymbalta the next day as I was on such a low dose of elavil anyways. We'll see how it goes.
545693 tn?1214494153 While it is not painful exactly, I know that it is there and I have been told by my gp that it is nerve pain. I am currently on 40mg of Elavil for the nerve pain and I am finding that it is helping. I have tried Neurontin, Topamax, Tegretol and Lyrica with no positive result but I have had positive results with the Elavil. If this gets to be painful I think it would be worth mentioning to your doctor...
Avatar f tn hI I have recently been diagnosed with a neuropathic pain after a rabies vaccination adverse reaction and have been prescribed amytriptiline (elavil) 20mg. I have taken it for a week but I am still getting the pain. Is amytriptiline supposed to cure the pain or just mask it? I have taken 40mg tonight in case Im not taking enough. How long does it take to work or should I go back now to my Dr and say it doesnt work?
1831849 tn?1383228392 I have taken gabapentin for neuropathic foot pain. It worked well for a while, in tandem with Elavil. I had no side effects, but it eventually stopped working, so I swithed to another anti-seizure med called Lyrica. Anyone else have gabapentin experience to share?
237053 tn?1258828426 Went to the dr today and he gave me a trial presciption for Elavil. He said it is an antidepressant used for nerve pain and that it may help with the pain and burning I've been having. Has anyone else ever used this? I'm really nervous about trying it. I don't like antidepressants. I'm thinking I can tolerate the pain. It's just the burning sensation I am gettin in my shins and top of feet that gets uncomfortable.
Avatar n tn it, a bag of frozen vegetables on the affected part does give some relief. Neuropathic pain drugs such as Neurontin, Doxepin, Amitriptyline etc also help but they can take a few days to kick in. I hope you find some relief soon.
Avatar f tn Ive been on Neurontin for 5yrs off and on, 800mg daily. Everytime I have decided to quit taking it, I havent had a problem with withdrawels, my sleep does get disturbed for a week or two, but thats it, of course thats me though. Id find out from your doc for sure! I havent had surgery yet though.
Avatar f tn Treatment for neuropathic pain (pain coming from nerves) includes neurontin and lyrica, and medications such as elavil (which is an antidepressant but has actually been found to be helpful with neuropathic pain as well). Other antidepressants are also helpful, such as zoloft, and the treatment for both neuropathy and fibromyalgia is similar, and often, more than one medication is necessary to control the symptoms.
382218 tn?1341181487 For me this ridiculous appetite seems to be due to Elavil and Lyrica. Originally I was only on Neurontin, very high dose. No increase in appetite. Introduced Elavil along with the Neurontin; noticed a definite increase in appetite. Recently started Lyrica to see if it might bring me more pain relief so am titrating up, as I taper down on Neurotin; holding steady on the Elavil. Even more appetite with the Lyrica.
359574 tn?1328360424 I have been told that the meds like Neurontin, Lyrica, Tegretol, Elavil are supposed to help with nerve pain but the Tegretol and Elavil seem to be the only ones that even touch it for me. Mention this pain to the neuro...it is horrible but they can help it somewhat so go for it and good luck...keep us in the know as to how the appointment goes on Monday ok?
Avatar n tn Other people have listed Trileptal (Oxcarbazepine), Neurontin (Gabepentin), Elavil (Amitriptyline) and Lyrica (Pregabalin) as some alternatives. I am currently on Lyrica + Cymbalta. I can't say that it's working but still playing with dosages. Anyone reading, please feel free to add your own choices and/or experiences.
1207048 tn?1282174304 My doctor has suggested I try neurontin (or I guess the generic version). I'm not very fond of taking medicine (I know, I'll have to get over that real quick if I get diagnosed LOL). I will most likely try this. I think my sleep is being interrupted after a few hours sleep because I'm uncomfortable. Not in pain so much, but sore and achey.
Avatar m tn I suffer from constant pain - pain specialists here have tried injections - burning the nerve, botox and every possible drug - Lyrica, indomethacin, neurontin, dilantin, elavil - opiates make it worse (trileptal was the only one that helped but lowered my sodium to 118 within 48 hours at just 300 mgs a day) 3 neurologists have suggested just living life out on klonopin but i refuse (high gaba covers the pain - ironic - depakote and tomomax make it worse.
Avatar f tn I have seen 13 doctors for extreme vulvodynia (specifically clitoridynia) which is getting worse by the day and have had no relief from every medication imaginable (Elavil, Neurontin,Lyrica, opiods, compounded meds, lidocaine). I need a non-medication approach like nerve block, but every neurologist I've contacted does not treat this disorder. HELP!!
378810 tn?1201987233 I lost 40 lbs 3 years ago and have kept it off until like 8 months ago when pain doc started trying neurontin and lyrica for chronic myofascial pain..which did not work...and kept putting on weight. Now back on lyrica for nerve pain in TN but not really helping. What other drugs work that don't make you gain weight?? Okay sorry, just a downer day..or week..any input would be great on meds that work for TN..God Bless you all.
Avatar n tn The pain is still constantly there with the vibrating and pulling sensation in both sides of nose and centre of my forehead as well as the pressure in my head. The nerve meds that I tried include tegretol, elavil, epilim, lyrica and neurontin. When I press against the back of my head I can feel the nerves in my nose get more 'activated' and the vibrating sensation increase. ENT scans revealed that I have a deviated septum and concha bullosa. Any ideas anyone? Pls help! Thanks.
1655815 tn?1306930462 Some other options to try: Neurontin, Elavil, Cymbalta, Sativex, Cesamet.
