Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin and seizures

neurontin

Avatar n tn My doctor just recently prescribed neurontin for me - and I have yet to take it as well! She told me it should help with my anxiety, but I'm reluctant to take new medications that have side effect lists like this one!! I wish I had something helpful for you, just wanted to tell you that I'm in the same boat!
Avatar n tn Hello I am a 47 yowf with a history of seizures, however I have been off meds and seizure free for 4 yrs. I am experiencing hand/arm trembling bilaterally. My MRI was negative with the exception of 2 sinus polyps. Could I be experiencing "mini seizures" or could there be another under lying problem. Sometimes when I hold a glass of water it feels heavy and my hand will begin to shake. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn You need to discuss this with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Neurontin is an anti-epileptic medication, also called an anticonvulsant. It affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. More and more this is being prescribed for various causes of nerve pain. Also it reportedly is showing success as a ************** option for fibromyalgia symptoms. Neurotin is chemically similar to the drug Lyrica. Neurontin is also used to treat nerve pain caused by herpes virus or shingles.
453029 tn?1205951419 The very fact that you are receiving Gabapentin (Neurontin) proves that your neurologist does not think you have absence seizures. Neurontin and other GABA potentiating drugs exacerbate absence seizures. The visual phenomena that you have been experiencing could be migraine related or they could be related to retinal detachment. Please consult your ophthalmologist.
Avatar f tn I went to my MD who took me off Neurontin which I take to much of anyway and put me on Lamictal - when I went to a new physco Dr. for the first time he asked who diagnosed me with Bi-polar - I told him no one my MD put me on it to get off the Neurotin, that it would make me more comfortable - has anybody heard of this? Lamitical being taken to withdraw fron Neurotin? THANK YOU!!!!!
Avatar n tn m surprised to hear about neurontin as a street drug. I take it for anxiety. At a low dose it seems to help, and at night I take a higher dose at night to help me sleep -- though I'd rather not take anything. It just makes me really groggy and sometimes gives me a "hangover" the next morning. It also causes wicked drymouth. Certainly not a drug I'd have any thought of abusing. At higher doses, it tends to make people slow and "dumb.
Avatar n tn A total shot in the dark here. I'm a 54-year old female. I took neurontin for five years, and lost what little libido I had during that period. About the time I quit taking Neurontin I began taking omega-3 supplements and my libido came roaring back. Apparently omega-3 helps build testosterone which helps the libido.
Avatar n tn Neurontin (aka: gabapentin) is generally used to treat seizures and neuropathic pain. It's most obvious side effect is sedation, and due to what it does to the brain, this effect is virtually unavoidable at therapeutic doses. Other common effects include sleepiness, dizziness, lack of concentration, and reduced reflexes. You can find complete site effect lists on web sites like rxlist.com Neurontin is generally a very safe, well-tolerated med that has few drug interactions.
Avatar f tn Not sure about Ok, but if we were in severe Xanax withdrawal locally, we can go to the ER and they will give out enough to prevent seizures. That may be an option. Do you have anyone to take you if it gets that bad? You shouldn't drive yourself in that condition.
Avatar n tn I have had and reacted to Depakote, Neurontin, Lyrica, and Topamax. The Lyrica and Neurontin was originally for nerve pain and the Depakote and Topamax were for migraines.
Avatar f tn Hi Shannonk Welcome to the forum.. Yes those are all symptoms. Neurontin needs to be tapered and should not be stopped suddenly, there is a high risk for seizures. I would recommend you speak with your Dr. and if you get to feeling any worse go to the Emergency room.. Please let us know how you are doing.
Avatar f tn t stay on it) and Neurontin with Neurontin being the only medicine that provides any relief so far. This is not rebound headache as I rarely ever take OTC or any other medicines except for Neurontin. HELP PLEASE from anyone with experience with this. Family needs me and I need to get back to normal.
2097395 tn?1333262190 I would talk to your doctor, and get a referral (if you need one) to see a specialist. He can prescribe the appropriate medication, and you can discuss your issues with neurontin as well. Best of luck to you, and keep us updated.

1134609 tn?1269272200 I am Type 2 Bipolar and currently take 200mgs of Lamictal, 900mgs of Neurontin, and 1.5mgs of Klonopin. My doctor and I will be weaning off of the Klonopin within the near future as we don't feel that it is medically necessary. I don't mind the Neurontin as I have been on and off of it for years. We are looking at just using the Neurontin and the Lamictal. However, a recent family even has gotten me wondering; would the Lamictal be a good enough mood stabilizer for me alone?
Avatar f tn Neurotin had a class action lawsuit against them. I know this because my father was part of it. He was taking neurotin for 4 yrs and it caused him to have seizures. Im sure they would've had to of made changes to the medication for it to still be on the market but sometimes money is all people care about so just be very careful. I know how desperate pill addiction can make you and you will sometimes do anything to feel better or normal again.Clonodine was a good one for me.
452063 tn?1324074916 Ok,we really need to stop relapseing together and then decide to quit at the same time.People might get the wrong ideal.LOL. Congrats on day 3.
Avatar f tn I know opiates. I know the pleasure and pain of them. I got the neurontin from a Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. I have had sinus headaches and facial pain for many years. I ALWAYS have a sinus infection. At least thats what my regular doctor tells me. So I went to a specialist. Had some CAT scans. He has not read the films yet but said he does NOT feel its my sinuses since my nose is never runny or stuffy, its always clear and I am a definite nose breather..
Avatar n tn it is an old drug and much safer than the new drug which is now often prescribed in its place called Lyrica..
1291268 tn?1274810922 Reluctantly I took Neurontin and told myself If i wake up 2hours later {i took it at night} and felt the same as i did on Lyric I wouldnt Take it. Thankfully i didnt have any bad reactions. I woke in the morning with a headach and a little depressed. BUT i kept increasing the dose and i am now on 600mg daily and increasing. I am so happy with it. My brain electrical activity has "queitend down". So has the "absence seizures.
323051 tn?1206924683 I came off of oxycodone and vicodin and felt the same way. I am on Neurontin now, which is an antiepileptic medication and that seems to help a lot. Hope this helps. I know that the feeling sucks!
203342 tn?1328737207 A child psychiatrist put my 15 year old daughter on Zolof for depression and anxiety and Neurontin as a mood stabilizer. When I looked it up, it said it was used as a seizure medicine and sometimes for bipolar but hadn't really been tested much for that. She's never been officially diagnosed with bipolar. She does have angry outbursts a lot over things that shouldn't be that big of a deal. In other words, she overreacts a lot.
233622 tn?1279334905 ve been on trileptal, topomax, lamotrigene, keppra, gabapentin(neurontin) and lyrica. Side effects made me stop the first three, a suspected side effect stopped me from taking the keppra, though we know now that it wasn't the med (my facial sensory stuff), I have only been given the last two for nerve pain. My neuro put me on gabapentin (neurontin), to work on my seizures, and the rib pain (which was the first neuropathic pain my gp recognized).
615048 tn?1226186203 t I never had any going of of it
