Neurontin and sciatica

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin and sciatica

neurontin

Avatar f tn For my sciatica, they allow me to take tramadol which works ok, but at times the pain is so great and I was wondering could I take the Neurontin and be ok when they administer a urinalysis which they do 3 to 5 times a week.
Avatar f tn It is suspected to be sciatica, but I have not been able to obtain a diagnosis, largely because the CT_Scan and MRI of the lower back, which show some minor problems, show no nerve compression. As well, two nerve block injections have produced no benefit. My question is: How is it possible that I have symptoms of nerve compression, but none is visible in the scans? Can there be another cause? Thanks very much.
667611 tn?1226005294 I hope that you get some relief soon. Hubby was also advised to use Neurontin and alternating hot and cold on his lower back in the lumbar area for temporary relief of pain due to inflammation.
Avatar f tn I have taken neurontin for withdrawals from vicodin and it helped tremendously. I was originally prescribed neurontin for nerve pain due to sciatica but it didn't help with that. I read about it on the net and found it is used in some detox facilities for withdrawals. When taking it the only symptoms I felt were the chills, a tad bit of anxiety, and a little lack of energy. I have went cold turkey in the past without anything and can say that when I used neurontin it made a huge difference.
Avatar f tn Today is the first day I dont have any and I am ok but a little leary. I do have ativan and a sleep aid, also I have neurontin for my sciatica but it make me too tired. I am babysit everyday for a 10 yrs. old, get her ready for school and then I have the day free from 9-3, Truthfully, I am raising her, so my day is busy but I am SCARED TO DEATH of these withdrawals, I notice your date is Nov. 29, so could you please tell me what you went through. Thank you so much. i TRIED TO WRITE TO Dr.
1277982 tn?1273378075 I even went to the doctor and had a straight leg test and she said it wasn't sciatica because I could lift my leg straight without aggravating any pain.. I have tried antiinflammatory, neurontin, baclofen an inversion table, exercises.. its already chronic it doesn't come and go it's always there sighs.. I am really tired of this.. I am going to try a different doctor thanks for the answers.. How long will this last?
1340994 tn?1374193977 I take pregabalin (Lyrica), and its cheaper cousin is gabapentin (Neurontin), and they are anti-spasm type drugs, and I found relief from my lower back pain overnight and continue to take it for several years now. Aside from medicine, one good way to relieve sciatica is to do yoga type stretching exercises, but since he has spine problems, it's best for him to ask his doc if maybe some physical therapy could be ordered for him to ease the pain.
1943408 tn?1325582497 I am on the Fentanyl patch and I STILL deal with a lot of sciatica. I also take Gabapentin (brand name is Neurontin) and it does help with the sciatica a lot more than the Fentanyl. Gabapentin is an anti-convulsant prescribed off label. I also take Fentanyl for extreme low back pain and myofascial pain syndrome. I am NOT recommending Fentanyl for you as it would be way too strong. I would try Gabapentin or Lyrica first to see if it helps.
Avatar n tn ve been on gabapentin(neurontin)1400-1800mg for abt 5 years for sciatica...and other nerve pain. It has been a God send for me allows me to sleep at night without that throbbing pain. gabapentin is an anti-seisure medication, there are others in this catagory that I'v read that are also good.
Avatar f tn january 2008, last more days, like 2 weeks, i had sciatica in both legs, and tingling. The pain gone, the sciatica too, but I still have the tingling in both legs. The MRI said about 2 discal protrusion, ona full L4-L5, another discret bt L5-S1. I have visited 2 neurologist. One said, my tingling is not related to the protrusion, and prescribe me cortisone, B complex, Lyrica and amitriptiline. I havent taken them. The other neurologist said, my tingling is related to my protrusion.
Avatar f tn I know opiates. I know the pleasure and pain of them. I got the neurontin from a Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. I have had sinus headaches and facial pain for many years. I ALWAYS have a sinus infection. At least thats what my regular doctor tells me. So I went to a specialist. Had some CAT scans. He has not read the films yet but said he does NOT feel its my sinuses since my nose is never runny or stuffy, its always clear and I am a definite nose breather..
Avatar f tn That is the same way my sciatica was - only in the right side. Had a couple numb toes and felt like a stone bruise on the bottom of my foot along with the horrible pain in my leg. Mine was caused by herniated disc on the nerve. Had 2 laminectomy which failed and still had the sciatic nerve pain. I found out about a med called neurontin (generic is gabapentin) and within an hour of starting this med the pain had let up quiet a bit - the next morning the sciatic nerve pain was about 97% gone.
874521 tn?1424116797 I am on oxycontin which gives NO relief to this area, I also use neurontin and that does help with the sciatica but NOT the achy throbbing and weakness in the legs....this has esculated over a 10-12 yr period. I also now have walnut sized lumps in the thigh area that are very tender(also not new, just esculating). question is this FMS, do others have similar symptoms and are told its FMS?
1083064 tn?1261491951 I have been diagnosed with sciatica (L4) since the 21st july and I was in complete agony with it, requiring a sick note from work for me to rest. 14 weeks on I am still off of work. I have a constant pain normally in my right leg. it burns / radiates / cramps / aches down to my ankle. My right buttock hurts constantly. I have shooting pains and cramp in my right hip. When my leg gives me a bit of peace I have back ache, to the right of lumbar area and spine. my spine pops and clicks.
Avatar f tn I am taking neurontin for the chronic leg pain and heaviness, they are saying sciatica, but i tend to disagree, and want to lower the dose since i see no differences, but the second i lower the dose i feel "funny".
Avatar f tn My doctor has not metioned testing of the sciatica nerve. He prescribed Neurontin and it is finally starting to feel a little better. I have an appointment to see a neurologist.
1602878 tn?1304336016 I have tried pain meds, muscle relaxers, lidocaine patches, cold packs, heat packs, relaxation, and prayer. A lot of it is sciatica. Then there is the normal pain from the knee replacement.open to ideas.
Avatar m tn Hello. My name is Steve. A few weeks ago I woke up with horrible lower back pain and pain shooting through my left butt cheek down to my ankle/foot. I am unemployed at the moment and can't afford to go to the doctor so I did my own research on the web. From the symptoms I described everything is telling my Sciatica. It felt like the pain was getting better but a few days ago I found it hard to lay flat on my back. The pain would shoot down my leg.
2040403 tn?1329847040 About 6 months ago my PCP scripted me Neurontin to help combat my sciatica pain and it worked wonders! I mean it took my sciatica pain from an 8-9 to a 3-4! After 1 week on this new miracle drug, my left ankle and foot began to swell, turn bright red and burn quite intensely. My PCP advised me to stop medication immediately. One week later, all was back to normal. I was referred to and saw a Pain Management doc this past Wednesday (Feb. 15).
16785591 tn?1451596681 I haven't seen your new question - I'll look. Unfortunately I've been very ill and off the boards for awhile. Yes I have been on Neurontin. It did little for me. I didn't have an issue weaning off the drug. I imagine everyone has their own experience but for me it wasn't an issue. My mother was also on it for several months. She didn't have an issue weaning off of it. They took her dosage up pretty high too. It still did little help alleviate her nerve pain.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I have sciatica symptoms and am wondering what drugs other than Tylenol and Ibuprofen, I can take for Sciatica pain, that isn't contraindicated with clonazepam. I have been on clonazepam for 30 years for cyclic vomiting syndrome/abdominal migraine. The sciatic pain is now intermittent (low one day high the next) and I have had it for 3 months. I see my NP tomorrow and wonder if there is anything I can suggest or ask for.
Avatar m tn Its cause is unknown, but it is characterized by diffuse aches, sometimes GI symptoms similar to irritable bowel, sleep abnormalities, low pain threshold, and other features. It is best treated with medications such as lyrica and neurontin, exercise, and physical therapy. Again, I suggest you follow up with your neurologist. Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
5862405 tn?1378570692 My question is has anyone else experienced the pain and burning in their feet and if cell what did you do and if you took neurontin how long before you began to feel better and what was the dose. thank you for any and all advice.
Avatar n tn d as sciatica and I was put on a medication called gabapentin (neurontin)....and it was a life saver, I could sit and lay comfortable finally....1800mg I've been on it 4-5 yrs and have had to increase it occasionally but with no side effects. ask you're doctor abt this and see if its appropriate in you'r case, good luck.
653169 tn?1303446369 Neurontin did help pain but sleepiness never left when on max dose. It did cause me to have vivid & weird dreams in am. Was switched to Lyrica but had side effect of swelling feet and concrete calves. Had to come off that all. Calves and swelling got better but after 2 years vivid dreams still bothering me. Dr said I am "medicine sensitive" and dreams are prob. permneant now. Good luck. Hope meds work for you.
1307610 tn?1273349327 thanks for all the suggestions....i have a 4 yr old and cannot take the narcotics during the day...already on 2400 mg of neurontin qd, anaprox, and skelaxin, which does offer some relief but i remain limited in what i can do. this last "attack" has been the worst as i still have leg pain and some foot numbness. before staying at home with my kids i was a nurse, so this has been a progressively getting worse problem for over 17 years.
