neurontin

473384 tn?1210206242 2 questions -- 1) I was put on oxycontin after my percocet use got to 8 tabs (5/325)/day -- and oxycontin never gave me as good a pain relief as the percocets. I had days when I was almost completely pain free with percocets (combined with an anti-inflammatory), and with the oxycontins (plus the same anti-inflammatory) I take more mgs/day, got more dependent on this higher dose -- and never had the same quality pain relief I had with the percocets.
Avatar f tn true psyintz, but doctors often try percs first and then if pain is not controlled well, they will add oxycontin and leave percs for breakthrough pain. imo, oxycontin does not work at all since they changed the formula to op's.
874521 tn?1424116797 thx for you're input always appreciated! I've been on neurontin for years at 1800mg...now my PMP has just upped the doseage to 2700mg, that was a week ago, I am seeing some improvement, I will not try the increase in oxycontin until I see if this extra neurontin will work...it it doesn't long term than I will trial the increased oxy.
1326416 tn?1370927001 ----- My pain doctor has stopped writing any and all prescriptions for oxycontin and oxycodone. She was suspicious why some patients only wanted oxycontin or oxycodone for their pain, as well as patients claiming it's the only drug(s) that helped their pain. I understand the suspicion, and would wonder about the same thing myself, considering all the different pain medications available nowadays.
1490854 tn?1288377107 My fibro has been really bad this year. Along with it, I also have a bi-polar disorder which caused me to be in a manic state for about six weeks. During that time I couldn't sleep. I took all kinds of sleeping pills etc. and I still would only manage 3-4 hours sleep a night. After my doc. got my manic under control, I had the worst fibro pain I've ever had. I've tried Lyrica and Neurontin years ago and they didn' t help much and I didn't like the side effects.
1036706 tn?1252827906 Omg!! you know what?....I have noticed hair loss, and i take Neurontin too. I started noticing that I didn't want to put my hair in a pony cause I was getting a forehead like Tyra Banks !!....no offense tyra, but I wasn't born with a monster forehead. I was thinking it could be that or the fact i hadn't cut my hair in 4 years....hmm? Now I did read that it is a side effect of Neurontin, but if you are shedding like a cat, that's not good, and i would talk to your doctor.
Avatar f tn i was tested for arthrisis, arthrose, im sure i have Fibromyalgia and maybe more cause i deal with these symptoms everyday pain is not a way to live i have 25mgs Fentonyl patches ,I used them for months and stop them to see aint seeing more help with them when i was with 50mgs and the 100 ones was working better for some pain but not all of them ,and i am down to 10mgs and so week after using them for months and months now that i have to cheat for some releifs( take oxycodones 2x10 mgs) and
Avatar f tn I have been taking Neurontin for 6 years and didn't think it was doing much until the last time my doctor didn't response to a refill request. My wife begging the pharmacist got me me through 2 days when I could barely walk and forget doing anything optional like cutting grass. The pain killer reliance because a way of life and it isn't an addiction until you find reasons other the pain relief to see more or stronger medications. I have taken Percocets (5/325, 7.
Avatar f tn hello, i saw my dr. today and he gave me a new med, it is called NEURONTIN 300MG 3X DAILY, he said it would help with my pain and to start weeing off of th oxycontin, the generic name for this is called GABATENITN has anyone heard of this stuff, if so does it work??? i did do some research on it and it doesnt seem too bad, but anything is better than these oxy's,,,i cant wait to be off them completly, my weekend was horrible,,,i tried CT and thought i was gonna die....
1322157 tn?1279656681 s office called me back but said she had never heard of anyone getting swollen lips from neurontin... but she would talk to the Dr and get back to me... she even implied I might be able to start Lyrica again - since it appears I have had an allegic reaction to neurontin. Anyone else have a similar problem with neurontin? I have taken it before years ago and never had this happen before.. is it possible to have an allergic reaction out of the blue?
Avatar f tn I have 2 bulging diclsc in the lumbar fegion that are sitting on the l4 l5 nerve and sciatic nerve. Plus arthritis in upper lumbar region. I have been on so many meds and the only thing that helps is percocet. Any suggestions? My doc wants mue on thelonger acting meds with minimal break through meds. I dont do well on oxycontin, any suggestions?
Avatar n tn thanks for your info. I to have had weight gain with both Lyrica and Oxycontin but I can't use the second Oxycontin qd because it causes severe constipation. so I only take the 2nd Oxy when my pain it really bad. Lyrica seems to work wonders for the intestinal nerve damage but I had a freind who was over weight and had breathing problems and her Dr. gave her a RX for Lyrica and I told her to ask him for something else because I was concerned it would put her into heart failure.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 32yr old female who has been on pain meds since 2008 from a terrible accident. I'm currently on Percocet 10/325, 30mg Oxycontin CR, 1200mg Neurontin 3x day and Zanaflex. I was recently diagnosed with Graves Disease which is an autoimmune disease associated with ur thyroid. I have noticed that I'm needing more pain meds than normal to relieve my pain. My question is, does this disease affect the relief I am supposed 2 be receiving from my normal dose?
Avatar f tn They have me on Celebrex and neurontin together, which really seems to be helping and from what they say, once I get off the pain meds will make feel better. I am still going to have flair ups and still need to take pain meds occasionally, by doing that will I have to go through withdrawals again? Thank you for the positve words of encouragement. It has been hard and is still hard, feel like my legs are going to explode.
600857 tn?1230057770 Please do not worry about Neurontin. I have taken it for a long time and at twice the dose your at. I have not had one problem from it and it does work on my nerve pain. I have had absolutely no side effects even from the increases I've had. In my opinion, it is a completely safe drug. If you have any douts about it then Google "Neurontin Side Effects" it should give you a really good indepth look at the drug.
Avatar n tn Hello - Question is: What other drug or pain relief options are available for nerve pain other than anticonvulsants like Neurontin & Lyrica and Depression meds? Unfortunately it appears that anti-convulsants and depression meds that are used to treat nerve pain can cause hair loss. I take Neurontin for severe nerve pain at disc, low back, legs and feet. Nerve pain started immediatley after sed/ta disc surgery. Have taken neurontin for 8 years.
Avatar f tn Hello Jdarie, Welcome to the forum. It's a great community to be associated with. There is plenty of good information and no shortage of support and compassionate ears and hearts. I've been a member since May this year, and have picked up a good deal of information. I take Cymbalta, 120 mg daily and it has has “worked wonders” for severe testicular pain that has plagued me for several years. I take it along with Gabapentin (Neurontin) 2700 mg daily and Oxycodone up to 60 mg daily.
Avatar m tn currently on 4 diabetes meds, oxycontin, neurontin, BP and cholesterol meds . all of which they know about and have documented. After i tested positive i was in shock and was looked at as scum9 even though i've been there for 3 years with NO PRIOR PROBLEMS. I seriously have no idea what happened. she stated that they were going to send it to the lab to get further checked out. In the mean time she gave me the usual meds for 10 days as opposed to the usual 30 days.
1855076 tn?1337115303 I'm seeing the doctor today and the pain psychologist and I hope she'll be okay with me going back on the long-acting. I feel where I get some decent relief with the 10 mg. oxycodone, the oxycontin may do the trick. I only get about an hour on the oxycodone and I don't want to go up on the dose. I think an extended release med at a low dose may help. I am very happy I went off everything. I was on so much and at such high doses and really the lower dose works about as well.
1433578 tn?1283448368 I am currently taking 300mg of neurontin 4x a day, oxycontin 40mg 3x a day, percocet 7.5/325mg as needed, and ibuprofen for my pain. I also take baclofen, androgel, ditropan, effexor, and methenamine for other conditions related to my spinal cord injury. I have been on this dose of oxycontin for 5 months now and my pain is gradually beginning to get worse again. In addition I am now extremely fatigued every day to the point where I can hardly function.
Avatar f tn Doc increased the Norco to 8 per day and wants to try Neurontin with steady increases for the next 3 weeks. Will go back in 3 weeks for visit and see how the Neurontin is working and then adjust from there.
1699346 tn?1306931126 I used Neurotin for nerve pain in the past. It was very helpful. Good luck and thanks for the compliments.
Avatar f tn Last week I was switched to oxycontin, 40 mg. three times a day and 5 to 20 mg. every 4 hours for breakthrough pain. I'm not sure I'm at the right dose for the oxycontin as I am needing the 20 mg. every 4 hours pretty consistently, and it doesn't always work. Today I have a follow-up with the nurse practitioner about the meds. I'm figuring she is going to maybe increase the oxycontin a bit and see how that goes.
Avatar f tn I stll get them almost everyday, and I exerise everyother day. Last week I woke with severve muscle in my calfs, and still cannot touch them from the pain,I do have a jacuzzi tub and sit in it to relax my muscles(not helping). No excersise since last week. Is this normal for bfs?
Avatar f tn THE MEDICATIONS I CURRENTLY TAKE ARE MELOXICAM, NEURON TIN, AND OXYCONTIN! THE OXYCONTIN WEARS OFF AT ABOUT 8 HOURS BUT I ONLY TAKE THEM EVERY 12 HOURS! CAN SOMEBODY, ANYBODY HELP!
Avatar m tn My tolerance level was high and the pain was horrible, as a result I was prescribed 30 mg 4x per day and this time the dosage wasn't too strong. Since that time with the help of my physician, I am on the week of weening down to 2x per day 30mg then the next day 1x per day 30mg. This one day is kicking my but, I just seriously struggled to make it until 4pm to take the one dosage. By Sunday I will be on one 30mg per day for 7 days.
1059594 tn?1261323966 For others with peripheral neuropathy, how is your pain controlled? Does anything help? I take Neurontin 3,600 MG a day and 400 MG a day of Ultram. Neither really help much, I've told the doctor this, he keeps upping the Neurontin. I just don't know if it's possible to control my type of pain or what to use to control it. This will be my 5th appt with my Neuro next tuesday, what are some suggestions, how do I explain this to him again?
1029507 tn?1287714315 I was on Neurontin and then Lyrica for nerve pain while undiagnosed. I've taken NSAIDs (both OTC and Rx) which at best take the edge off of my joint pain. I haven't had pain that is both bad and persistent enough to make me consider other options. While I've had periods of more intense pain, they have thankfully been relatively brief. My best (untrained lay-person!) advice is to be open with your doc about the type and severity of pain so that they can do their best to help.
