Neupogen bone pain

Common Questions and Answers about Neupogen bone pain

neupogen

Avatar f tn Since the big leg bones produce most of the hemoglobin, I suspect the pain was due to the production of Hgb. My bone pain was modest and resolved itself in a few days. Bone pain can be a severe side effect and should be reported to your doctor. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Some people get bone pain and some don't. I think procrit may be the same way. I didn't have that side effect with either but perhaps we can hear from someone else. It would be a good thing to know how long the pain lasts after a shot.
Avatar m tn I had awful bone pain when I was on Neupogen. I've always contended for me, the side effects from Neupogen were as bad if not worse than those from antiviral therapy. It stimulates the colonies of white stem cells within the bone marrow causing the level of neutrophils in the blood to rise. It is common to have aching bones and joints for 2-3 days duration starting 1-2 days after the start of the injections.
Avatar f tn I believe that your pain complaints are valid and this may be a side effect of neupogen shots (this bone pain can be part of the usual 'flu like' side effects associated with the drug). If you are experiencing pain from this treatment, then I believe it is inhuman to withhold pain medications for you, though I agree there can also be side effects from the chronic intake of pain medications (such as dependence or kidney problems).
244899 tn?1313624639 My hematologist has explained that no one knows the reason that neupogen causes bone pain in some people. It has been said that neupogen stimulates the bone marrow and that can cause the marrow to push against the inside of the long bones and cause some pain. But your guess is as good as anyones as to why it happens. The good news is that most people get used to the neupogen and it stops hurting.
Avatar m tn My Mom is in hospital and after completing CHOP for Lymphoma, she is also receiving daily Nupogen shots for 5 days. WBC is at .01 (that's 100 not 1000) on the 4th day. They say it drops lower after chemo before it will climb. Still praying. Anyway, one of the chemo nurses said that Claritin helps with the bone pain from the Nupogen. She has been on it since the start and hasn't had any pain. Now looking at a possible platelet transfusion tomorrow.

Avatar f tn This bone pain was generally reported to be of mild-to-moderate severity‚ and could be controlled in most patients with non-narcotic analgesics; infrequently‚ bone pain was severe enough to require narcotic analgesics. Bone pain was reported more frequently in patients treated with higher doses (20 to 100 mcg/kg/day) administered IV‚ and less frequently in patients treated with lower SC doses of Neupogen® (3 to 10 mcg/kg/day).
484932 tn?1226513291 I am at week 36 and having problems with my wbc, my dr gave me a shot of neupogen and said nothing else . I woke at 4 am with the worst bone pain I ever had , feel like my hips and back are broken , did anyone else have this, when I called my dr I was told noone experianced such bad pain but me, anyone? My dr is against giving any pain meds for this treatment no matter what and I fear he is simply not sympathetic to me.Am I just a big baby?
1051842 tn?1253997592 I didn't have any sides from Procrit. The neupogen gave me a slight fever and bone pain in my legs. It really wasn't too bad at all. And it got better with time. You may have to take these drugs for the entire length of treatment although I hope not. You're lucky you're not having sides from interferon. Feel better soon.
Avatar n tn Anyone get any help with bone pain and seems like a migraine after neupogen ? I am on my second shot and it's 4:30 am and I have been up all nite with a horriable headache and severe nausea. Will call docs today and ask for something.
Avatar f tn I have had bad bone pain from procrit.
Avatar f tn from completely unnoticeable to significant discomfort, particularly from bone pain. Many docotrs are over cautions and recomment Neup when they are still at a fairly high level. Others let Neutrophils drop to the neighborhood of 300. So you have a copy of hubby's recent lab report? Try to get you hands on the most recent if you can.
Avatar f tn During treatment I had constant headaches and bone pain. Many will say there is no such thing as bone pain but I beg to differ. Anyways...I am now 6 months post treatment and am still in pain. I have headaches all the time and my hips/lower back hurt all the time. I was given Ultracet and it doesn't help the pain. At most on good days it will take the edge off but that is about it. I don't know what to do.
555120 tn?1234746957 The neulasta was, for me, better. Much less bone pain. With neupogen, I was taking precription pain meds at night. I just take tylenol and try to keep ahead of the pain. It also didn't last nearly as long. Had my last neulasta shot an hour ago. (God willing the chemo got all the cancer and no recrrence.
Avatar f tn I required 3 injections one 24 hours after chemo and then 1 each day after fora total of 3 With that said they can cause severe bone pain.. Just ask your oncologist for a pain reliever and you can get through it.. NOthing is ever as bad as it appears before you do it... I go through it and my white blood cell count remained stable enough I could fly home to visit my kids...
564735 tn?1263943526 Each time I got the shot, after each chemo, I had difficulty sleeping because the bone pain was so extreme.......I realize not everyone experiences the same and that is good. It did it's job, however, as I never had to miss a scheduled chemo. My onc just ordered some pain meds to get me through and I managed. I stuck with the Neulasta and, in retrospect, I am glad I did. Good luck to you. Peace.
Avatar f tn s suggestion about vitamin D is not bad. I had bone loss on TX due to lack of vitamin D. Bone loss can cause bone pain. Your family doctor or an endocrinologist could order a vitamin D test and a bone density scan to be sure that your bones are okay and could start correcting things if they are not.
Avatar f tn I too am a little surprised that you got Neupogen when you were at .9. My ANC is also at .9 but my doctor hasn't even mentioned that the number is low, let alone doing something about it. Of course I had to beg for Procrit, so.... The symptoms you are sharing are exactly what happened to me when I had my first shot of Interferon. I was literally in a fetal position, chills like I've never had before, bad headache, fever, and bone pain.
Avatar f tn Pardon my earlier mis spelling of your name, I apologize!
Avatar m tn Today my WBC is 2.4 and my absolute neutrophil count was 1.2 without neupogen. My doctor said if I have an absolute neutrophil count over 1.0 and if I feel fine then she usually doesn't give neupogen. We scheduled a bone marrow biopsy for Feb. 11th. Pray for me. To be continued....
Avatar m tn Generally your liver does not have nerves inside of it to feel any pain - which is why the biopsy does not hurt. However there are people who believe the shrinking of the capsule around the liver as the inflammation is going down can cause pain. I'm not sure how true that is or not.
Avatar f tn I was on if for about 8 wks. It did get my white cells and neut. to come up, but it also caused a lot of bone pain. The bone pain subsided after I ended treatment and that was over 2 yrs ago and I haven't had anything real critical come up from having used it.
