Common Questions and Answers about Neupogen back pain

neupogen

1986676 tn?1329862471 Oy. Three doses of Neupogen a week? Given how quickly Neupogen works and how short it lasts that makes sense based on what I read about Neupogen. After much debate I went ahead and started Neupogen when my ANC hit .40. I am only on the 300 mcg on Sunday. Intellectually I knew what to expect but I had no idea how overwhelming the pain is.
457651 tn?1208363102 On saturday i woke up with no back pain but an inmense fatigue and pain in the legs. Now it is 1am sunday and i feel the same way. Can someone help me on what to do whenever I am injected with this Neupogen? Should i drink lots of water? should i eat certain food? Can ibuprofen help? How many days does this horrible feeling last? Thank you all for reading and best wishes to you all on your fight for a good health.
1986676 tn?1329862471 net/threads/1298-Severe-pain-with-taxol-and-neupogen I have had back pain, but it is not Neupogen caused back pain. Mine was usually relieved by lying down. However, mine was position related, especially doing things with my arms in front of me and my back slightly bent (dishes, cooking, preparing food, vacuuming, etc.) and was more muscle pain/spasms. Interestingly enough, that pain is now gone (since Hep C Tx).
Avatar m tn My bone pain from neupogen was mainly in my leg bones. It lasted a few days. As I got used to the neupogen it wasn't nearly as bad as the first few injections.
457651 tn?1208363102 Chemo is such a harsh treatment and the rescue drugs like neupogen are also hard on your body. Ask your docs for pain meds, they should give you whatever it takes. Try posting your question on both the Hepatitis C and the Hepatitis Social Community forums, lots of people who post there have taken neupogen and can advise you. There's a lot of traffic on those boards so you'll get an answer sooner.
314692 tn?1214080510 I have been getting neulasta shots every other week and have noticed achy pain in the middle of my back. My oncologist and the nurses tell me this is a symptom of the neulasta. I did not have this pain before neulasta. All blood work and chest xray show normal. You know how it is with this BC diagnosis I worry about EVERY ache and pain. Could neulasta really be the culprit?? I have been old by the docs that it messes with the bone marrow.

Avatar f tn I believe that your pain complaints are valid and this may be a side effect of neupogen shots (this bone pain can be part of the usual 'flu like' side effects associated with the drug). If you are experiencing pain from this treatment, then I believe it is inhuman to withhold pain medications for you, though I agree there can also be side effects from the chronic intake of pain medications (such as dependence or kidney problems).
1227909 tn?1267853479 i'm currently on tx for hepc and i'm having some serious back pain, and also pain in my arms but not like the severe pain in my back...is it because of the tx or is it dehydration? is there anything i should do besides drink a ton of water and take ibuprofin? i'm starting to wonder if a fluid iv at my local hospital would help at all...
703858 tn?1274669802 s a side effect of chemo, but kidney issues can sometimes cause pain in the back. Does she have shots of Neulasta or Neupogen for her white blood cell count? That also causes bone pain for some. I admire your mother's determination, but pain management doesn't mean she is weak by any means. In fact, for all she's been through, she's a super hero! Even if remission doesn't happen, perhaps she can become stable.
484932 tn?1226513291 I am at week 36 and having problems with my wbc, my dr gave me a shot of neupogen and said nothing else . I woke at 4 am with the worst bone pain I ever had , feel like my hips and back are broken , did anyone else have this, when I called my dr I was told noone experianced such bad pain but me, anyone? My dr is against giving any pain meds for this treatment no matter what and I fear he is simply not sympathetic to me.Am I just a big baby?
Avatar f tn In all phase 2 and 3 trials‚ medullary bone pain‚ reported in 24% of patients‚ was the only consistently observed adverse reaction attributed to Neupogen® therapy. This bone pain was generally reported to be of mild-to-moderate severity‚ and could be controlled in most patients with non-narcotic analgesics; infrequently‚ bone pain was severe enough to require narcotic analgesics.
Avatar m tn Low ANC may not cause fatigue but for some Neupogen is worse than the treatment drugs. Fatigue, fevers and bone pain and if your one of the unfortunate ones like myself to get those side effects, good days are few and far between.
244899 tn?1313624639 My hematologist has explained that no one knows the reason that neupogen causes bone pain in some people. It has been said that neupogen stimulates the bone marrow and that can cause the marrow to push against the inside of the long bones and cause some pain. But your guess is as good as anyones as to why it happens. The good news is that most people get used to the neupogen and it stops hurting.
Avatar n tn The first time she was given herceptin and vinorelbine she experienced severe back pain and was given a concoction of very strong pain killers. Ever since that treatment she has been having lower back pains. She is currently not on any continuous medication except for the chemotherapy drugs and the occasional pain killer. Currently she also has 2 ureteral stents in place for slight hydronephrosis. However the urine did not contain any traces of blood or wbc.
Avatar f tn I don't remember seeing too many problems aside from the common bone pain from Neupogen to tell you the truth - most longer term problems from my recollection seem to stem from the SOC itself. It's pretty common for blood levels to go off a cliff on treatment and I just thank God that we had the available rescue meds to continue onwards and get to SVR. Whether it be the reds or the whites......I think in the end it pays off. Some folks aren't even allowed rescue meds....
Avatar f tn So the doc finally agreed to a neupogen shot, after many delayed shots of pegasys. I was supposed to do a shot tuesday, however got bloodwork done today and anc is 620, Doc says to take neupogen tonight (I did, the neupogen is 300mcg, im ~130lbs) and get more bloodwork done on thursday, and then he'll call friday with whether or not to take the shot or not. So here I am, waiting, again. Arggg!
Avatar f tn s working overtime trying to get my blood counts back to normal levels. My WBC actually dropped back to 1.2 and this is with me on Neupogen. The PA thinks maybe it's just because normally I draw my blood work on Fridays and so I've gone three extra days. I'm due to take the Neupogen today. So I'm going to repeat the CBC this Friday. Anyway, was just wondering if anyone has any input about this. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Yes, in a trial and they allow rescue drugs. They don't advertise it, they don't offer it, but it's available and I had to ask for them. The trial parameters still require dosage reductions below certain white and red counts. When they reduced my riba for one week, my doc put me on procrit - eprex in Canada - as a proactive measure to avoid the dosage reduction the trial requires when my hgb drops below 10.0. IF my lymphocytes are at or below .
Avatar f tn Hey all...Just a q...How low do your absolute neutrophils have to get before the docs decide it's time for Neupogen? Mine are still dropping (0.82 K/ul )with the monocytes (20%) and lymphocytes (52%) climbing and the spleen seems a bit sore...Yet another okay side, or something to be concerned about?
