Avatar f tn A second occurance of cancer in the same breast isn't by any means a death sentence. Even metatistic cancer from the primary breast involvement isn't that either. There are many Stage IV survivors on a forum I visit. I must say that looking "fit" doesn't have much to do with having cancer though. It seems to strike the "fit" as well as the "unfit'. The forum I mentioned is BCSUPPORT.ORG ... you might ck. it out and read the posts from the many survivors.
Avatar m tn Yes, they have statistics, but the last thing we need is a number in our heads. I had a lobectomy for lung cancer, and was told at the wonderful cancer center I went to that the assumption is that the cancer is gone. When it is operable, that is good! I had only 2 chemo treatments and decided the poisonous sickness from that was not worth it. Focus on living a healthy lifestyle, do the things you love to do, and laugh a lot.
Avatar m tn There are studies that consider 5-yr-survival rates, 10-year survival rates, disease-free survival rates , and survival only rates (which may include dealing with a recurrence). The time-frames and outcome criteria are usually selected based on what will make a feasible research study.
Avatar f tn If the cancer is ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) or has not spread to the lymph nodes (is node-negative), the 5-year survival rates with treatment are up to 98%. However, cancer recurs in 9 - 30% of such node-negative cancers. Recurrence is a potentially life-threatening problem, even if the disease relapses locally in the same breast. In one study of DCIS patients with locally invasive recurrence, 8-year mortality rates were only 12%.
Avatar f tn t seem to get a straight survival or recurrence rate from docs, just said I got it bad and will try to kill it...Please clarify recurrence or survival rates for me.
Avatar m tn The 1 year survival rate for patients who have a liver transplant is 85% in the US (University of Southern California’s Center for Pancreatic and Biliary Diseases) The 5 year survival rate for patients who have a liver transplant is 70% in the US (University of Southern California’s Center for Pancreatic and Biliary Diseases) 81.
Avatar f tn GCC has been noted to have a 50% response rate to the FOLFOX chemotherapy regimen. The 5-year survival rates for those who received adjuvant chemotherapy (for combined Stages II-IV) as opposed to those who did not receive any were 32% and 27%, respectively.
Avatar m tn Some tumors would tend to metastasize to the lungs but this is seen in very late stages. Without further treatment, the 3-year survival rates for patients with this condition ranges from about 20-30%. You might want to discuss with her doctors regarding insertion of feeding tubes, or having a tracheostomy ( a tube inserted at the trachea area), so that whatever happens, no matter how large the tumor becomes, she will still be able to breath and be fed properly. Regards and God bless.
Avatar f tn I am looking for the true survival rates for stage IIB breast cancer. I have been on chemo (a study including Avastin) since March '10 and have one more treatment left prior to surgery. Now I understand the FDA is withdrawing its consent to use Avastin. My axilla tumor was nearly 4cm while the breast tumor was 2.5+/- . My question is: What are the true survival rates when you are comparing lumpectomy vs complete bilaterial mastectomy.
Avatar n tn Those of us that are fighting ovarian cancer do not look survival rates. We know they are low, but we also know that each and every one of us has the same chance to be that 1 in 10, so that is what we look towards. Hope is a very important part of the fight along with a positive attitude. It does take several months for the effects of chemo to wear off. But I am curious, is your sister still under Drs care?
Avatar f tn This is a question that is almost impossible to answer. There are statistics that deal with generalities but none of them actually deal with any one specific case. I have never relied on published percentages as I feel there are too many variables in each person's cancer as well as the response to the therapy. You might search for Statistics of Survival Rates on the Internet but I wouldn't ever depend on them for myself.
Avatar f tn The 5 year survival rates of patients with low grade astrocytoma treated with radiation ranges from 47 - 68% versus 21% for those who did not receive any radiation.
Avatar n tn No the area wasn't bleeding after the aspirate it was just more enlarged and I wasn't sure if it was inflammed more from the needle. The results said it was mostly white blood cells present so the vet put her on an antibiotic. She has only been on it for two days so the swelling hasn't gone down much yet but it is better than yesterday!
Avatar f tn After adjusting for age, race, tumor grade, comorbid disease, income status, and year of diagnosis, the overall survival rate at 15 years was 35% for conservative management, 50% for radiotherapy, and 65% for radical prostatectomy. The corresponding prostate cancer-specific survival rates were 79%, 87%, and 92%. Patients undergoing radiotherapy or radical prostatectomy had lower overall mortality than patients undergoing conservative management (adjusted relative risk 0.
1819252 tn?1317092002 Localized Ewings sarcoma detected in time and treated rigorously increases the survival rates of the patients and many are known to live long. Even in patients with metastasis, long term survival is seen in 10-30% of the patients. Hence, your friend can undergo treatment with a positive frame of mind and she should soon be on road to recovery if her general condition is good, the cancer was not detected in very advanced stages, and she tolerates the treatment. Take care!
483733 tn?1326798446 Among these women, at 5 years, the overall and disease-free survival rates in the adjuvant therapy group were 88 percent and 83 percent, respectively, while the corresponding rates in the observation group were 74 percent and 61 percent. Once again, the differences persisted at 10 years. The current findings support the use of adjuvant oophorectomy and tamoxifen in premenopausal women, particularly those with ER-positive tumors, the investigators conclude.
2086677 tn?1372511435 Certain hormones and newer drugs are being tried these days. The survival depends on the stage of the cancer. Localized kidney cancer has much better survival rates than cancer which has spread. You need to discuss all this with her treating oncologist. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar n tn Please don't jump to the worst outcome without real hard evidence. I think you move too fast to make yourself over worried. There several facts you may want to know. 1 final dx of OVCA is from biopsy 2 you are young so the chance you have ovca is much less than aged women 3 The symptoms you are experience may cause by simple cyst. 4 Please follow up, to get to the bottom of this. I don't think you need to think about survival rates right now.
Avatar f tn Hope I am not too late in replying but re survival rates they seem so reluctant to tell us anything. I had a second opinion and for my specific situation which is similar but not identical to you I was told the following. I just turned 41, was dx triple neg in May 09, grade 3, stage 3, had a lumpectomy (3cm lump) followed by a re-excision and removal of infected lymph nodes 17/17. Also told I had significant vascular invasion plus extracapsular....
Avatar f tn Thyroid cancer is generally one of the least aggressive cancers and survival rates for 40 year old men is basically 100%.
Avatar f tn Five year survival rates are less than 2%, average survival (this roughlyh means survival for 50% of cases) for patients with advanced disease would be around 4 to 6 months. The actual course would of course vary from one case to another, so talk things over with her doctors. There may not be much that can be changed with quantity of life, but there is much to do for quality of life (based on her status and symptoms and how these can be improved).
Avatar m tn However, vitamin D supplements may increase survival rates. Some cancer treatment centers are giving patients 5000 IU/day of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol).
Avatar f tn I've had 3 surgeries for breast cancer. Lymph nodes were 8 out of 12 positive but the last 3 were microscopic. Can Neupogen be used in place of Taxol? I've read that Neupogen attackes the cancer cells more with better results. Whn my cells were tested they found that the good cells were really attacking the bad ones. I'm just afraid that reg chemo will mess this all up and I won't have anymore good cells to help fight. What is the best thin to do?
