Avatar n tn the day of the biopsy they called me back in and told me I have medullary thyroid cancer which is not so easy to treat had a Total thyroidectomy in Oct with neck dissection and am hoping for the best see the docs at Mayo on monday next week and then in Jan. I would suggest you go to someone that is a expert and if possable even the Mayo clinic it is a 6 hour drive for me but I do not care. They told me Calcification does increase you chances of cancer but also the incresed blood flow.
Avatar f tn My doctor has not told me what kind of thyroid cancer i have but i am scheduled for surgery 10/8. My pre-op is 10/2. Is this normal? I have done two biopsies, 1 positive for cancer, 1 not; ct scan showed thickening of the larynx, and ultrasound showed nodules in the thyroid and lymph nodes in my neck also had thyroid cells in it.
Avatar f tn I had papillary thyroid cancer 5 years ago, since that time I have had virtually undetectable thyroglobin levels. I did have a total thyrodectomy. I have since gone to the dr and had a normal blood testing which resulted in a thyroglobin level at 89. After going through WBS, pet scan and mri, all tests completely negative, I am confused. The dr ordered an ablation. Has anyone else had something similar to this.
Avatar n tn I have a lot of confidence in New York Eye and Ear, I understand they get a high case load of thyroid cancer. Also, both their pathologist and head and neck surgeon are very dedicated and good people. If you need another opinion in the local area I recommend them. Hurtle cell carcinoma(bad) is difficult to distinguish from adenoma(not bad) by FNA from what I gather, however the “bad" is supposedly aggressive and worth the risk of taking out.
197575 tn?1215532624 A woman in my thyca group had to have a neck dissection because of recurrence (that's not the cool part). The doctor knew that because of where the cancer was- in many lymph nodes, they weren't going to be able to save her parathyroid glands on that side so they transplanted them into her arm muscle, right above the wrist! Amazing.
Avatar f tn I now have scoliosis in my lower back, hips and my neck, I have lived like this for 21 years and I am just fed up with the pain.
Avatar f tn I have a puffy area on one breast, and a little pink spot near the nipple, and some very subtle differences in the areola compared to the other breast. Maybe people would think I'm crazy to think it's that weird, but a PET scan showed active lymph nodes in my axillary region and neck and blood tests show elevated sedimentation rate and high gammaglobulins (possible cancer, but nonspecific so not necessarily).
Avatar f tn I had surgery for medullary thyroid carcanoma in October just went back to the Mayo clinic the cancer has not spread anywhere else but my neck which I am happy for but my medicine levothyroxin is to high I quess I do not sleep and have chest pains and just do not feel well also really bad headachesI am taking 136mcg so we are going to change the dose is it really that hard to find the right doseage?
378725 tn?1200684802 Many physicians feel that fibromyalgia is an excuse to be lazy. There is not enough research or the correct medical tests to properly diagnose this condition. It would seem that doctors would look to the one specific body organ which controls calcium in your body (4 parathyroid glands). I have hyperparathyroidism, even after surgery two years ago. I have "bone spurs" in the back of my neck.
Avatar f tn But they tell me there is nothing they can do now. I also developed a rare cancer in my neck called Hurthle cell they only give me a year but I don't see a date attached to me anywhere. Has anyone had such a severe reaction???
389113 tn?1200431389 I have been "unwell" for a while, but painfully sick and getting worse since September Have had many many tests, and nothing. normal cbc. I've lost 30 pounds, though I have good days, there are more bad days. drenching night sweats, though not all of the time. almost constant chills, fatigue/weakness so severe, sometimes I can't even talk. Strange flushing of my face and neck. I suffered horribly with itchy rashes on my legs for months, but those seem to have subsided.
17976131 tn?1462411450 After two days of the samples being at the hospital where the biopsy was performed, they were sent out to Mayo Clinic for confirmation. Still no answer. Does anyone know what this means? Why couldn't everything be finished at my hospital? Is it possible that they have an idea of what is wrong and are not telling me? I can't take this waiting... total I've waited over a month to find out why I'm having symptoms (i.e. sore throat, cough, swelling, etc.
976897 tn?1379167602 Hi, A friend of mine has a 19 year old Son who has a massive Malignant perethial nerve sheath tumour. It basically runs from in front of his shoulder blade and into the base of his neck. It was treated with chemo/radiotherapy years ago but it obviously didn't work. Over the last 2 years, they believed this image on the scans was scar tissue, not realising the cancer was still active. She has been told that surgery is not an option.
582396 tn?1259863489 I am over the moon excited that DH got a 5-10 day appointment at Mayo Clinic - Dec. 10. Anyone have any experiences on what to expect etc?
Avatar n tn A little backgound first.... 1998 I traveled to Europe for two weeks 2000 had my first blood transfusion due to heavy periods...
Avatar f tn They say my levels are stable but I am tired all the time moody and keep gaining weight my cancer surgery was 3 years ago at Mayo. If I had not went there I would not be here today.
Avatar f tn I had a thyroidectomy last January b/c of papillary carcinoma found on my thyroid and in multiple lymphnodes in the neck region. I did the radioactive iodine treatment and now I am on synthroid. I have never have had problems with weight. I have always been very active (played bball in college and track). Professional pole vaulter from 1997-2002. Now I can barely stay awake all day. Low energy, feelings of fatigue, anxiety, depression, mental fog, body aches and weight loss.
Avatar f tn The major complaint I have are the headaches and neck pain. The headaches range in severity. The worst pain/headaches are definitely a 9 on a pain scale, the pain in my neck is very bothersome, I get a weird “helicopter” sound in my right ear, the ringing in my ears is more pronounced and I have uncontrollable facial spasms, I feel very anxious and with these types of headaches I get very nauseous and most times throw up.
Avatar n tn I’m just confused that they say it’s a slow growing cancer but he is already in stage 4. So his diagnosis with the second opinion with Mayo is marginal zone lymphoma involving multiple extranodal sites. My husband does have a mass in his left kidney.
Avatar f tn if your body can sometimes kill off a cancer and make the node smaller, why would it stop? Also, compare to how an anti-cancer vaccine trains the immune cells to kill a cancer -- the body wipes out the cancer completely and rather quickly. So the behavior you describe seems much more like inflammation lessening, than cancer cells being sometimes partly killed off. "they range from 1.5 cm to 4 cm" Nodes with TB can also get quite large, but just as yours they are oval.
353148 tn?1293061164 Ideally you should bring him to a dedicated cancer center like MD Anderson or Mayo Clinic, but as you have said, the problem is convincing your father to switch to another doctor. What you can do is to survey cancer centers near your area (you can do this by using the internet). Your father may be amenable to go to another hospital if it is near and convenient for him to do so. You can also try searching over the internet for cancer support groups located near your area.
Avatar n tn Results would have been 2 days ago, but did not occur. I had to press to find out, but they sent the sample to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. (I live in southern Indiana.) Has anyone seen this happen before, why do they send them away?! Can't they diagnose cancer in Indiana? My nerves are ragged....
728742 tn?1240928040 Doctors like to check the lymph nodes to see if any cancer cells have been filtered through them, see if cancer has spread.
Avatar f tn After I had my adverse event I developed something called hypergammaglobunemia a plasma cell disorder and the Hurthle cell cancer. Mayo said that was from the adverse event, plus had to have my thyroid taken out. Has anyone esle had such a reaction? With the vomitting blood and now my blood pressure is dropping they think I have a small bleed in my liver. I was on the interferon and ribavarin, and after they pulled me my viral load skyrocked.
Avatar f tn s suspicious for cancer - do you know how large that nodule is? In addition, the doctor at Mayo said he saw inflammation suggestive of Hashimoto's - that's not a reason to biopsy a nodule because a biopsy won't determine if you have Hashimoto's. You can either go by the ultrasound results and say you have Hashimoto's, based on that. You said your thyroid blood work is all normal... did they do both antibody tests to confirm Hashimoto's?
