Nebivolol vs metoprolol

Common Questions and Answers about Nebivolol vs metoprolol

bystolic

Avatar m tn 25 mg extended release, which is obviously not enough, though I feel great in terms of strength and alertness and stamina, that were all seriously diminished when I was taking Propranolol. So, now I am wondering: I definitely need to go up at least to 50 mg, but should I do a 50 mg Metoprolol once a day, or can I take the 25 mg tablets twice a day (every 12 hours).
Avatar n tn Hi GranRon- I just started taking bystolic about two weeks ago. While I'm on a very low dose (2.5mg/day), it still seems to be pretty effective in keeping me out of A-fib. I've been on metoprolol before, and had some awful side effects with that one, but the bystolic seems to tame those down quite a bit for me. I've only had two instances in which I could tell I was experiencing some slight side effects (dizziness, slight shortness of breath, pressure).
715004 tn?1309077280 I too take a BB, Metoprolol, but I don't have any your strange symptom. Have you studied the side effects listed for Bystolic? I note too that 5 mg sounds like a light dose, but I'm comparing to Metoprolol which I take 100 mg of each day. Your HR and BP look great, but I recommend you call your doctor and ask for his reaction to your "crawly feeling", s/he may change your medication. I doesn't sound like something one would want to have to live with.
Avatar f tn My mother currently taking nebivolol 5mg in morning and amlodipine/perindopril 5/8mg in evening for hypertension. Her blood pressure has recently been improved and taking both pills cause low blood pressure, she is also suffering from cough as a side effect from perindopril. I am considering to shift her to nebivolol only but 5 mg once a day is not controlling the blood pressure well. My question is can nebivolol be taken twice a day in 2.
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn Lately I am getting worse tachycardia even with the 50mg metoprolol twice a day. It seems to come and go in bouts. Overall the metoprolol has helped my tachycardia a lot in the several months I've been on it, but I wonder if it's run its course since the tachycardia seems to be coming back somewhat. I'm only 33, in decent shape, about 178 pounds, 5'11, a bit out of shape but not terribly. I tend to not tolerate exercise too well in that it triggers my tachycardia at times.

Avatar m tn 5mg started yesterday, I was originally taking lisinopril 10mg and metoprolol 25mg. I was fine with lisinopril and metoprolol the only issue was when I get a cough it will last 2 to 3 months, I can't get any sleep at all do to dry cough. The doctor took me out of both medications for 30 days but my HBP would rise especially evening time. The Doctor is now having .
Avatar m tn After my second ever episode of fast atrial fibrillation, resolved through electric shock, my cardiologist prescribed 100mg flecaine and 2.5mg nebivolol to be taken every day. This as a preventive measure. I have read on the medicine info notice that these two medicines should not be taken together. My cardiologist states that they are routinely prescribed together by cardiologists these days. I have never taken any heart drug, and feel a bit concerned. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Avatar m tn My cardiologist subbed 5 mg Nebivolol for the Amlodipine due to what he described as exercise-related hypertension. I took this medication for a week and experienced a range of unpleasant side effects, including exhaustion, significant depression and reduced heart rate (mid-60s, compared with my normal mid-80s). I've been off the Nebivolol for five days, but I'm still experiencing these side effects. My heart rate has only come back to about 67-68.
Avatar n tn Yes, I know that Toprol XL is the brand name extended release version of metoprolol. However, there is a generic equivalent called metoprolol er, which I assume his doctor gave him. I have read many posts on this forum where users indicate that switching from Toprol XL to metoprolol er still report having problems. The generics are not always as good as the brand name ones.
Avatar f tn One is an ACE inhibotor (the Perindopril) and the other (Nebivolol a.k.a. Bystolic) is a Beta Blocker BP medication. For him to be taking two blood pressure meds might be indicated, but I would ask more questions here. BP meds can cause depression and fatigue. There are many BP meds to choose from, so this could be a fruitful area to make some positive changes. It sounds like he may have hard-to-treat high blood pressure, which may have been the cause of the afib.
612551 tn?1450022175 Regarding Metoprolol vs Atenolol, I believe all Metoprolol is sold as Metoprolol Tartrate, but it depends if you take the extended release version or not. I know in Norway, you can get both, but I would not exaggerate if I said that 99% is sold in the extended release version. The drug is the same - but in extended release the pills/capsules are made to slowly release the active substance.
Avatar f tn SHe also gave me nebivolol hydrochloride 10mg a day.Does this drug interfere with my PSVT?Iread in internet that nebivolol is Beta 1 blocker and reduces hogh blod preasure.
443862 tn?1237999439 Betablockers control the heart rate, but the thyroid levels need to be normalized - would talk to your endocrinologist about the cause (ie, diffuse goiter (Graves) vs nodular goiter) and the options for treatment.
612551 tn?1450022175 1. by taking the same mg atenolol as you did metoprolol you doubled your dosage of effective beta blocker.
1464004 tn?1384135733 Has anyone ever heard of heavy feeling tired legs as a side effect of Metoprolol ? I'm on a relatively low dose of 25 mg BID if the tartrate.
Avatar m tn of BB, but I can say Toprol (Metoprolol), which is taken at a much higher does, usually 50 mg or higher, can produce the side effects you describe. Some of us adjust to them over time. I take Metoprolol at a 100 mg per day level, and may go higher. In the beginning it cause a too low BP and caused some dizziness when I stood up too quickly (or just didn't take time to stand up). These side effects have passed, my BP in now near normal.
705966 tn?1239408751 Anyway, the offshoot is that you might be better off switching to nebivolol, which is a vasodilating beta blocker. A researcher named Cockroft is doing a lot of work in that area.
