Avatar m tn I have been on every medicine known to man trying to control my migraines, they got severe as a teen and dibiltating in my twenties. I am now in my forties and I just try to make the best of them because life has to go on. Ecspecially with children, anyway, how does phenobarbitol work to stop the pain of a migraine??? Avatar n tn s medication use to help glutamate regulation in the brain. The standard dose in 20mg a day after titration, so taking three 5mg tablets is not a problem. In fact side effects don't really occur with Namenda until the dose is increased to <40mg (it is above recommended dose but many doctors use it at that level). Rest easy.
20003388 tn?1515166040 m just curious if anyone has been on Namenda and could tell me how long the initial brain fog lasted for you? I just started Namenda yesterday, 5 mg a day for 1 week then 10 mg a day in divided doses. I have memory issues and severe cognitive impairment. I was put on Namenda by a neurologist after a thorough examination. I expect the brain fog from starting Namenda up but am just trying to get a time frame for when I could expect the initial brain fog to wear off. Thanks everyone.
Avatar n tn I find this hard to accept as he is confined to a wheel chair and is relatively weak as his muscles have not been put to any use in several years. He still has a firm handshake however. My concern with the use of Risperdal comes not only from recent studies but from my experience of him since being on it. He cannot speak, he nods off, his pupils are pin holed and he may be showing some signs of tardive dyskenisia.
Avatar f tn Specifically, ketamine was helpful to a patient with glossopharyngeal neuralgia, a pain disorder quite similar to trigeminal neuralgia, but involving the ninth cranial nerve instead of the fifth. 585414 tn?1288941302 Yes I am somewhat familiar with that. For example Namenda which is used to treat dementia is in clinical study as a mood stabilizer and to treat tardive dyskinesia. However as those medications specifically effect those receptors by mitigating their activity they work in an opposite manner to glycine and the NMDA receptor modulates.

Avatar n tn My father is 84 years old and has been having blackouts and passing out in the past year. He has been taken to the hospital for injuries from these spells. He becomes very combative and is disorienented after a spell and does recognize anyone. The doctors dismiss it because they can't find anything. After a good nights sleep he is back to himself and has no memory of the day before. They say it isn't his heart, there is no evidence of a stroke or dementia. Do you have any ideas?

901222 tn?1399142874 I struggle with a severe form of spinal arthritis. My doctors encourage me to medicate. I don't like to. I tend to slip in and out of dependency according to pain levels and depression about it. I stay far away from oxy and morphine because they are very difficult for people to quit. Vicodin makes me sluggish and sad. I lose connections and sulk in my bed. I just stopped all about a week ago. Feeling a bit better. Still depressed with another RF medical procedure looming. I'm worried.

454366 tn?1211245301 The med I was given for that has a side effect of osteoporosis in the lumbar in long term use (Synthroid). I ended up with litium toxicity a few years back because diuretics will cause that. As you know caffine is a diuretic (soft drinks) - which most kiddo's I know tend to drink. I would not allow litium to be given to my child; not going through what I have with it. I have a son who is ADHD. I stopped giving him the Concerta that was prescribed to him.
Avatar n tn BTW my father in law has similar affect in that he thinks everyone is conspiring, lying etc. We cannot take him into our home for that reason as he gets physical and emotional outbursts and I am disabled so I cannot handle it. We left him home with caregivers as long as we could, but after so many police calls and caregiver issues, we finally had to place him in a home. Sad for us all.
