Avatar m tn Earlier this afternoon (july 7th), i ended up going to urgent care and the doctor said i had impetigo, and he wrote me up a prescription for antibiotic ointment (Mupirocin Ointment USP, 2%) and sent me on my way. I still have some questions though! 1.) i read that impetigo is highly contagious. How contagious is it? i always wash my hands after i apply the ointment, and I don't touch the area at all, except when im putting the ointment on. 2.
Avatar n tn Hi, This could be a bacterial skin infection like Impetigo or an allergic reaction. Impetigo is a superficial skin infection, caused by staphylococcus ("staph") and streptococcus ("strep") bacteria. Though it is more common in children it can be seen in adults. The non-bullous variety is the common form, caused by both staph and strep. It appears as small blisters or scabs, which then form yellow or honey-colored crusts. These often start around the nose and on the face.
Avatar m tn Last year I had an outbreak on my lips and my doctor said it was impetigo. They put me on an oral antibiotic but then the symptoms did not subside after a few days leading them to think it was HSV1 and they prescribed Valtrex. After a few days and some rest it went away and scabbed over. Note: The bumps on my lips went across the entire lip, oozed a yellowish- clear liquid, and then scabbed and healed.
Avatar f tn I have impetigo and have been treating it with Mupirocin ointment. It was continuing to spread so I went back to the doctor and was prescribed Doxycycline. I've been on the oral antibiotics for 48 hours but still have little blisters popping up on my hands and arms (and just noticed today a couple on my stomach). They're little and stay little (about the size of a grain of rice), not like the large ones I had on my face and neck that showed up and became pea sized in a single day.
Avatar m tn I went to two different doctors. Both thought it might be impetigo. One gave me muciproxin cream and Keflex as an antibiotic. The ones I had did start going away, in fact, I would say they did. However, two weeks into the treatment, I found another one growing to the right of my right eyebrow on the side of my face. I blitzed it with the cream and it basically cleared up in 4 days. Before I started treating them or taking the Keflex, they could last as long as two months before.

5123318 tn?1417395836 For 18 years, I've had impetigo chronically. I can rarely make it 10 days without an outbreak. It is so bad in my eyelids that I can no longer read, look at a cell phone, watch tv, etc. If I look at a cell phone to type 5 text messages in one day, I will have outbreaks. I've taken dozens of antibiotics. The only things that have helped have been cutting out citrus fruit. But I starve myself out of fear that food may be causing this.
Avatar m tn I can't really see the red spots in the picture, but I'm guessing its impetigo. It's either just impetigo or it's bullous impetigo ( if it's real bad ) my daughter had the same thing and had to have a biopsy done to figure out what it was for sure. she had seen 4 different doctors who said it could be follicilitis. hers were red pimples with a little red rash around it and some have whiteheads in the center.
Avatar n tn Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case. I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if it is impetigo, and if so, how do I treat it so close to his eye with him wearing glasses? I have never seen impetigo. The only thing I know about it is what I have read on this website. Any info would really help.
Avatar f tn I also want to know if you think the medication that my dermatologist is giving me is good for impetigo, it is Levaquin 7.5 mg., mupirocin ointment, chemical cautery, and a depo shot in the butt? It ahs help before but maybe that's why it's recurring, you think? The only problem with the chemical cautery is that it turns my skin black, but it seems to make the lesions dry out really fast! Thanks and have a blessed day!!!
Avatar m tn In October 2009, I caught a very bad case of impetigo, and was given antibiotics to combat it. In a couple weeks it cleared up, but in less than a week after treatment my skin broke out with these oozing, golden crusts once again. The dermatologist I was seeing prescribed all sorts of antibiotics to try to cure me, but all served to be only temporarily effective. All the drugs probably did my body more harm than good in the long run.
Avatar m tn Hello, Such kind of scabs under the armpit can be due to folliculitis, boils, abscess, cold sores, eczema, impetigo or lipoma. Folliculitis starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing or blockage of the follicle. In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph). Please keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics.
Avatar m tn I'm a 16 year old male. A few months ago I developed impetigo on my chest. When I went to the doctor he prescribed my mupirocin to apply topically three times a day for 2 weeks. After 3 weeks the rash looks smaller and not crusty, but it was still there. I went back to then doctors office, but this time had a different one (a huge mistake). This new doctor said it was ring worm and gave me ketoconazole. After two weeks it did absolutely nothing and so i went back, this time with pictures.
Avatar m tn Over the next few years I went to other doctors and a dermatologist, given such medications as bactrim, clindamycin, doxycyclin, mupirocin ointment, etc. None have worked. I went to a primary care doctor last week who performed a general bacterial culture on one of the sores I squeezed and sent of to the lab. The test came back negative and didn't identify any other bacteria present.
Avatar m tn i had similar symptoms. i think it may be impetigo. i was prescribed mupirocin 2%. You're supposed to use the cream 3 times a day for 10 days straight. I messed up and stopped after 3 days because i thought i was better but then the red bumps came back but this time on my lower lip. It had first started on the left corner and then the top left side of my lip.
Avatar m tn I have a serious Impetigo/Ecthyma infection that I just can't seem to stamp-out: Whenever I kill-off an infection site, new infections just pop-up around it, and it has basically been working its way down around my forehead/face. Before this outbreak, it was isolated to a single ulcer on my forehead for a few months (I didn't know what it was at the time). Eventually I attempted to get it diagnosed & treated - and when I did, it turned into a horrible game of Impetigo whack-a-mole.
Avatar n tn m a 25 yr old female with no previous major health problems before this summer (except I did have my tonsils taken out due to chronic tonsillitis in 2005). About 2 months ago I was diagnosed with impetigo. I had (still have) what look clearly like impetigo lesions/infections all over my face, a few on my arms, chest, stomach, & legs. I have dealt with acne on and off as a pre-teen & again over the last few years.
Avatar f tn My grandson has a reoccurring impetigo infection that is on his eyelid, and we’re looking for an otc medicine to treat it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn As an Asian I have very smooth skin. however 5 months ago I was told that I had impetigo. I had some antibacterial cream prescribed and a cream to get rid of the flaky skin that comes impetigo. It has been 5 months and I still have some bumps. They aren't impetigo, ( no leaking), but these are abnormally large lumps on my skin. The would cluster and would look like acne. but when I pop them only blood comes out.
